Torrey Smith

Torrey Smith made up for all the drops, in my mind, with that TD catch. It is amazing to see a Ravens receiver get separation like he does. I was also happy with Q2's two catches, the UMD receivers stepping up.

If he didnt drop balls, dude would be on par with Julio Jones and our price tag was waaaay cheaper.
Julio Jones has been a bust so far. He just got his first TD.... I would compare him to A.J Green who is by far the best rookie WR. If smith could learn to catch the ball and use his hands, he would have about 10 TD's by now. Looks like Joe is putting the ball where it needs to be for the first time ever, and the recievers havent adjusted yet. Our recievers almost lost this game for us, Joe was on the money with most of his passes.

Just wanted to say as one of the biggest Flacco haters ever, Joe played on hello of a game. Starting to think its More Cam and Less Joe each week. Get that Bum Cam out of here and let joe shine.

Torrey ....

Unlimited potential. Every week this guy is beating people deep. Heart of a lion.
Our fears of his suspect hands prove relevant ... he must improve that part of his game if he is going to become a WR to be feared. But that is the ONLY knock on him that I have remaining -- he has quieted my other concerns about him.

I think he'll be just fine, let's give him some time

Peoples gotta stop blaming Torrey for the holding penalty....horrendous call.....he was not holding........there was no penalty.....officials created one in there mind. Ravens scored 17 points on that first drive and the refs took away 14 of them. Horrendous officiating.

I really have to disagree here as well. He just had a Torrey Smith-esque TD breakout but he has been playing good all season despite missing two games. If you get a chance go back and look at the Seattle game, he had over 10 catches and over 120 yards. I think he will be a better receiver than A.J. Green.

Worth 2 first rounders and all the picks that the falcons traded up for him. No where worth that money. AJ green was worth a top 10 pick. If patric peterson or Cam doesnt win ROTY, its going to Green. I would rather take Torrey at a late 2nd rounder then Give up 2 first and a bunch of pics for Jones. I think we could get a pretty dominate OL,DL,LB at 5th overall.

Torrey is now a legit deep threat in the NFL.....he has gotten deep in every single game he has started. There is no doubt he can beat CB's deep. Just because he is a character guy, I'm gonna say he will work his butt off to improve his pass catching capabilities.

I'm gonna say the latter part of next year and then the years that follow Torrey will cement a position as one of the top receivers in the game. He is a home run hitter and he plays with a QB that can throw deep. Those two are just gonna get better and better.

Looks like Ozzie finally got himself an explosive WR in the draft.

Also in Torrey's defense is the fact that Q, who arguably has some of the best hands in the business, had two crucial drops of his own. What both of them are able to do is move on quickly and get to the next play. That's more important in my mind for a young WR. Not to mention this kid is pure class.

Ok so in torreys presser after the game he said something that im signalling out here... on the TD pass he said "joe threw it a little late" and moved on to the other non TD pass saying "i saw joe scrambling and i started to slow down to look and check the scenary to see which way he was going".. then next thing he new joe threw a bomb..

Is this the problem on the deep balls? Joe is a little late in throwing it, Torrey Slows down thinking he wont hit him and then Joe overthrows it?

I got the impression Torrey was actually mis judging Flaccos arm rather than flacco misjudging Torreys Speed.. Torrey said "he has a gun and thats something I HAVE TO LEARN"

Some people have mentioned before they thought torrey was slowing down, and now hes admittely said he slowed down and if he kept running that would have been a touchdown, he would have been right under it.

Torrey beats his man, and when the ball isnt released when he thinks it should he slows down thinking flacco wont hit him, not knowing the real strength of his arm, and then he cant get under the balls..

Thats a great sign that he knows why they havent been connecting, and maybe now he will just go flat out the whole play and will get under them deep balls.

Off-topic, but I'm reading Kevin Van Valkenburg's "Five Things..." column(best one in my opinion) on the Sun's site and he brings up an interesting point: "If every time Flacco plays poorly, Cameron gets blamed, then he should get a little bit of credit when Flacco plays well."

Not to turn this into another Cam debate but we've seen slants, crossing routes, shots deep and Joe in the shotgun a good amount the past two games. Not that Cam's play-calling was flawless, but the guy had to have been making some good calls with all the third down conversions last night and the comeback last week.

yes and he does, but how much of this is Cam? Maybe Joe has stood up and said we need more x y z and Cam had to listen after a few bad preformances or maybe it was Harbugh put on his big boy pants and took charge after seeing what worked, who knows, they play calling has improved and kudos for that, but and a big but, we were very very predictable for a while there, run run pass, run run pass.. Yes we needed to run but cam done the same series 7/8 times in a row.

Thats what I have been saying and specifically pointed out in the 'Torrey Smith' thread. He slowed down (damn near stopped) coming out of his break on the one he dropped in the EZ. Think back to the second TD (I think it was the second...the one deep in the middle) against the Rams. He slowed down considerably cause he didnt feel he was open. When he realized Joe had released the ball, you could see Torrey "switch gears". He needs to go full speed at all times and then WATCH OUT!!!

at least now he has realised that though and it sounded as though he knows joe has a cannon and can just keep running and joe is going to get the ball out there in front off him.. Torrey needs to watch this:

Only those with the team know how much the second half and late-game adjustments we've seen can be attributed to who. I just find it funny that credit and blame are so frequently put on one person's shoulders.

I agree on the predictability though. The run-run-pass formula drove me crazy several drives. So did the play in which Leach went in motion after being split out wide.

Regardless, Torrey made amends and the team won.

they done that three times with a run, then on the fourth time the threw it.. but it was so predictable, we run 98% of the time leach is in, id like to see more passes with leach blocking for flacco and rice running a route from the backfield, maybe split dickson/pitta out wide to have 3wrs and rice running routes

Thats kind of what I was getting at. Jones has been good this year but for what the Falcons gave up for Jones, Id take Torrey in a heartbeat.

Bouncing back from drops/holding penalty to catch the game winning touchdown shows the guts Torrey Smith has in things not fazing him. Glad he's a Raven!!!

Joe and Torrey get better every week. I hate to say it (or maybe I don't), but I think cam is finally starting to figure out the strengths of this offense.
1.Run the ball (even for short yardage),
2.Work the Tight Ends,
3. put Joe in the Gun!
It worked beautifully. I seem to think we won't be seeing another Jacksonville fiasco on offense this year.

What's your opinion on him as of now? He dropped TONS of passes, but has shown so much potential. Right now, he's the reason we won. But he also let another game-winning TD pass go through his hands. I know he's a rookie and all, but wow.

So far i give him a C+

"So far i give him a C+."
So far I would give him a kick in the pants.
He got lucky to have a final opportunity to catch the ball after a bunch of drops during the game and a final drop in the end zone toward the end. I am still confounded how the Almighty gave him a final opportunity to win the game. Maybe this game he matured because we need a consistent force opposite Boldin providing we make the playoffs. 20 Rec for 397yds 19.8avg 4TDs

14 more receptions and this rookie will beat Mark Claytons final season with us convincingly and double his yardage if he maintains his 19.8avg

Lol call me crazy but i was always a Mark Clayton fan, when he was hot he was hot, and when he got traded to the Rams (my 2nd team) he played really good.
