Torrey Smith

What's your opinion on him as of now? He dropped TONS of passes, but has shown so much potential. Right now, he's the reason we won. But he also let another game-winning TD pass go through his hands. I know he's a rookie and all, but wow.

So far i give him a C+

Torrey made up for his drops, how about Joe Flacco...can he finally get any respect? He beat the Steelers and Ben in Pittsburgh...

4 drops - 2 in the endzone. But, dang, how can you not love him for coming back and catching the one at the end? Buy a JUGS machine, Torrey!

Just a C+?

If he didn't drop SO many easy catches, he'd be getting an A right now

He still has hands issues. He needs to body catch the ball. But I am glad we kept confidence in the kid. I was starting to get a bit down on him. He left many plays on the field. But he made the play of the game.

I was starting to wondering about him, thats for sure. I started to call him Butterfngers, but i quickly took that back with the game winning Td. Id give him a B just because of the winning catch, that and although he did drop alot of deep balls, he still caught some mid range catches.

He will get better. Q2 has really good potential. Doss can be good as well. It looks like we finally hit on some WRs in one draft.

Torrey has a massive amount of potential. No one here really doubted that. It's up to him to cut down on dropped balls and become one of the best deep threats in the NFL.

Torrey. Torrey. Torrey.

I am so glad the kid redeemed himself after the first time he had dropped the ball to win the game. What a morale booster that catch was.

Welcome to Baltimore, Torrey.

He does drop a lot of passes, but he will get better in time. And how about that catch in the clutch! Just imagine him when his hands get better and he completely learns the route tree. Add his deep speed to all that and he will be a very good WR, if not great WR.

I called that TD. I said Joe was going back to Torrey just like last week. They're going to be a fun tandem to watch for a looong time :)

Torrey is proving himself. For every mistake, he finds a way to have major effect on the game later. He is stealing hearts in Bmore. I love that we have a young legit deep threat. It's great to watch this young player blossom.

An aside is that LaQuan showed up on a couple of third downs also. The future is looking bright for this team on the offensive side of the ball. We are getting better and Torrey is a large part of that.

Torrey Smith's stats right now:
20 catches
397 yards
4 touchdowns

Yes he needs to desperately work on his hands to become more consistent but through the first 8 games of the season Torrey's ability to gain seperation and his improved route running every week cannot go unnoticed. He's going to keep improving without a doubt because all the intangible things are there. Everything he needs improving on comes with practice and with his character i have no doubts he's going to find a way to get it done.

He can improve his catching ability, the guy flat out gets open. He's a young athletic freak, which is what we've needed at receiver for a long time. Finally Flacco has the deep threat that he needs to play his best football.

Torrey is much quicker than I expected him to be, and that is a really deadly weapon. If he can develop some catching consistency he will be an extremely dangerous receiver in this league. I'll give him a B- for right now as well, because I love the flashes of brilliance, he's come through big a few times, and he has improved his catching compared to what it was. I just want to see him develop consistency with his catching, especially over the shoulder on the go routes as that's going to be where he makes his money.

He made tough spectacular catches. Dropped 2 very easy ones in the chest. The fingertip td drop although heart-wrenching ( was quickly forgiven & forgotten with the game-winner....

He's a rookie... And to be honest I never expected him to play this good this early....

Hopefully hes not a Braylen Edwards. Explosive but drops too many balls to secure the #1.
[/quote]

Thankfully he has a lot more work ethic. Torrey will keep working on his hands, Braylon is all about clubbing.

I'd have to give him an even B right now. Though he does make some drops, like when Joe nailed him in the numbers and in the end zone at the end of the game, he just knows how to create separation and use his speed to get past the defense. Putting him one on one against anyone but a top-tier CB is a danger for teams that they have to respect. The guy is the big play threat we've been waiting for and will develop further and further as a receiver.

Good catch over the head by Laquan Williams tonight. Joe was really on with the passes and the receivers all made some mistakes that almost killed us.

I wish I could hate on Torrey's earlier drops, but after he made the clutchest catch he's ever made in his blossoming career, I just can't.
