Who Thinks We Should Have Gone For Two ?

20 posts in this topic

you have to take some chances in the NFL obviously, but Harbs is still trying to establish himself as a legit head coach so I don't think he could afford to take that type of risk.

Heres the situation in both ways:

We go for the 2 pt conversion:

We get it: "John is the best Head Coach in Ravens history"

We don't get it: "Fire that man!"

It's just to early, he's not a Mike Shanahan just yet, but he'll get there, trust me.
Ball to McClain.
Puts us in the lead.
Defence keeps us there.

It could have happened...
NO.

McClain gets stopped in the backfield and this thread becomes "why did we go for it!?!?" blasting Cam Cameron/Harb

We had multiple opportunities to win. 1:30 left on the clock in the 4th w/timeout, OT, Not getting the holding call on Figures return to the 45. Mewelde not breaking that long skat on 3rd down, run instead of pass which allowed flacco to fumble, not get flagged at critical times...

So to say should we have gone for 2 is kinda pointless when we should have never been faced with that kind of decision anyway.

If the defense would've stopped the Steelers from scoring that first TD, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

If the offense would've scored more points, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

If the Steelers hadn't kicked a field goal or put any points on the board whatsoever, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

If the game hadn't even been played, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

See a pattern here?

In other words, there's a lot of "if's," but the game is already over, and there's nothing anyone can do but look to this Sunday's game to hopefully go 3-1 instead of 2-2.

I'm just happy with what this game proved, and this will be a great learning experience for the team. Besides, realistically, we had to lose a game at some point -- might as well be early, in a close loss decided in OT, on the road, than later in the playoffs.

In theory, better to lose on the road than at home -- it's much more embarassing, and more disappointing to the fans, to lose at home.

You can't be serious...

We had the ball in overtime, if the special teams had a little bit more discipline we could have had the ball on our own 30 or so and been able to orchestrate a drive.

Let's just cut the discussion about the "What Ifs." It happened and we can't do anything about it. Let's focus on the Titans

Good point, we lost and we should get used to it. I expect for us to lose 3 or 4 more games before the season is over. Keep your heads up!!!

I like the sound of ONLY 3-4 more losses. :P

What if John Harbaugh came from the sideline, intercepted Ben's pass, and ran it back for a touchdown. Than we could say we have the best defense ever ever ever ever (not saying that we already don't).

And also, what if Jared Johnson just went ahead and knocked Hines Ward out. I mean, he already got the 15 yards penalty, might as well to go for it all. He makes millions anyways, a fine wouldn't hurt'em. Anything to get that ridiculous smile off ward's face. I puke everytime i see it.

i got to be honest.. i was hoping they would go for 2.... overtime had the potential to go to double overtime with the way the defenses can play... it could have been a big statement... and im not saying that just because we lost

Go Ravens

My only thing about going for two, or even on 4th down going for a yard when you know you want to kick a field goal or punt the ball. Is that the Ravens *must* train to line up like they're going for it, have everyone know "don't move, we're not snapping the ball, just faking it", and do a hard count to try to draw off the opponents' D into a 5 yard penalty. If it does not work, we can let the clock run out and get a 5 yard penalty. Kick a field goal or punt with an extra 5 yards is a small penalty for the *chance* to get 5 yards (and a possible first down on 4th) or half the distance to the goal (and then we can easily slam that one in!)

Thoughts?

Really, why don't we see this? If we're good at faking it (our QB is good with the hard count), we could draw teams off side in these really few instances, that would mean big things.

Risk thats is How you make it prime time. ZDoing the unthinkable. Thats how you become a well respected coach in this league. If we would of made the extra point that would of been great. but if we had failed we would have a topic uop here now saying john is the worst coach ever. Now tell me I'm lieing. anyway either way its risky its just how you del with it . we went with the safe side

LOL! I totally wanted them to go for two but then I remembered that I had 8 beers by then. I was caught up in the moment.

It was the right call though. If we would have lost because we tried for two, there would have been a lot of upset people. Mike Shannahan can get away with it not John Harbaugh.

The ONLY place in the game I thought "go for it", was when we were down 3-0 and we had the ball 4th and goal on their 2. I realize that you take the points most of the time, but even if we hadn't made it they would have had the ball on their 1-2 yard line. But going for two on the last TD to try to win? Nope. We would have all been SUPER pissed if we went for it and din't make it.
