So, Who's The 3rd WR?

40 posts in this topic

i think it depends on the situation. i don´t care who is out there as a third option but you better catch the ball when you are getting the trust . we throw in our two tight ends in the mix very often what i like a lot because it causes matchup problems for the defenses. both are too fast for lbs and too big for dbs to be covered.

but back to you question: i think our third guy is reed right now. but that will change when (IF) lee comes back....

With cam mostly using 2 WR sets with boldin n Torrey I rarely see a 3rd out there n when I do it's a mix of laquan n reed...I'm just confused
A lot of us are confused as to what in the world the coaches are doing. Tandon Doss SHOULD be the 3rd receiver, but Harbaugh clearly plays favorites over talent. HE's done it in the past, and he's doing it now. All I was to know is, how exactly are these rookie who can supposedly plat special teams helping out? Last time I checked, the only good player on special teams was the punter. The coverage has been horrible, the returns have been horrible. I have a hard time believing they give the Ravens a better chance to win than having Tandon Doss on the field with the offense to give Flacco another target, and definitely a bigger target than LaQuan Williams and Torrey Smith. He looked good in preseason, and has seen no action since then.

regardless of who our 3rd receiver is....these cats (our receivers) are gonna have to play very very aggressively against the steelers corners. most tape on us suggests that our boys can't get any seperation from the DBs. so, i am sure that the steelers CBs will be jamming our boys the entire game to throw them off of their routes and Joe's timing and rythmn. to be honest, that's what i'd do! i believe that their gameplan will be this....

"Make Joe Flacco beat us with his arm!"

And, therefore, Joe is gonna have to have his game face on in order to be ready and up for the challenge! We need the ENTIRE offense to be ready to go when they step off of the bus and our defense? We need them to be lathered up and foaming at the mouth on the flight over to Pittsburg. and remember your statement in week 1 Sizzle...

I have little confidence in D. Reed as a receiver. Just let him return kickoffs. I would much rather have Carr or Webb returning punts than E. Reed. Doss should be getting in the game more by now. Williams has been inconsistent and going into Heinz Field is not going to help his nerves any. I wouldn't rule Evans out of the game. It's not a good idea letting the opponent know who is starting before hand.

From what I have see its mostly Quan. I think they like him better because he brings more to the team then Doss, so he's already had more of an impact on the special teams unit. Doss is strictly a WR, nothing else. However, I would still like to see what he can do. I think a rotation between Quan, Doss, and Reed would be good until Lee gets back, just to actually see who the best receiver is out of the 3,

Quan's a better blocking guy with a strong pair of hands. He's also a fantastic ST guy on a team that is HORRIBLE on ST. That will earn you your time.

Id like to see the 2 TE set with one blocking and other running the route. Let joe audible where he believes the pressure is going to come from so that TE can stay on the line and the other run a quick slant in the middle into the space of that blitzing linebacker.

I think the problem has been the lack of emergence of a third WR. David Reed just came back from injury, and his primary role is as a returner. Tandon Doss has barely shown up all season long. LaQuan Williams has been the primary third WR, but he hasnt has much success thus far. Getting Lee Evans back will really help us.

So far this regular season he has not shown strong hands at all. Tandon Doss could probably give Boldin a run for his money with his hands.

I think its Laq. Williams, im not giving up on him just yet, he was targeted once and thrown too. He should have caught that ball, very disappointed.

I thought D.Reed looked very slow returning in the cardinals game. With that being said at least he didn't lose the football either.
He looked a little slow to me, too, but he also had a really good season returning last year. He ended up fourth in average yards per kick return for the league, which isn't bad at all. Plus, he showed he had the ability to make big plays happen and break a couple returns. He's been injured for a few weeks also, so he might not be up to full speed yet. Overall though, I think he's done a pretty good job on STs, which definitely has an effect with Harbaugh

I know some of you hate this but I have little faith in this current coaching staff when it comes to Oc and the HS being able to make competent decisions regarding either the O of the OC. I mean heck even our ST suck this year, who is supposed to be a guru of ST. Not exactly inspiring info.

I feel bad for OZ because you know he has to be thinking damn how many gems do I have to find before you can win a SB. We have a more stacked roster than any other team in the league imho.

Either way we need to put Joe in the gun let him spread the field out and go to work. The third receiver should be the best mix of both skill sets so that way he can find a way to separate from a nickel guy.

Until Lee gets back, I would think it's Reed. But I still like LaQuan despite his stumbles. I haven't seen Doss much so I won't just say it should be him. Ideally, it will be Boldin, Evans, and Smith. We can also split out Dickson at times.

Until Lee gets back we don't have one.

Anquan at this point is a solid #2 receiver, Torrey is a good #3, Reed will probably never be a receiver (Doesn't even have a career catch, always hurt, special teams stud, never gets snaps), Doss isn't ready (Having good hands doesn't make you a NFL ready receiver) and Q2 clearly isn't ready for a #3 role.

I dont think its a lack of coaching that has hurt our ST, mostly execution. But it is surprising that our ST went from a strength last season to a liability this year. The 2 TD returns were clearly just guys either out of position or not making tackles that should be made.

Let's keep one thing in perspective here in that we are talking about our 3rd option wide receivers. Obviously we have a glut of talent behind Boldin, T. Smith, and a healthy Lee Evans.

Ideally T. Smith would be our third option when Lee Evans returns to the line-up.

As things stand now Lee isn't done for the season, or he'd be on IR. But with him being out we have used a revolving door of people for that third receiver option. Mostly it's been Laquan Williams, and he usually does a good job blocking down the field. Tandon Doss has played sparingly, and we have no clue how he works in practice. My best guess is that he has had a limited role because he was rehabbing a torn hernia that he played through during his last year at Indiana. This is also the reason he fell on draft day from being a 2nd round prospect. D. Reed hasn't been healthy either.

Lastly, I think in so many respects that it's smart to keep up the ambiguity of who is the third wide receiver. This forces opposing coordinators to have to game plan for more players in more packages. I also think that between Ray Rice (our true number 1 receiver), and the tight ends that we wont see a lot of packages that will bring in a 3rd receiver anyways (unless we are down in score, or down in distance).

on the depth chart probably Williams. In reality its Ditta, or Pickson, lol. However you prefer, they're utilizing the TEs interchangeabley as slot WRs more than the actual WRs.

Considering the number of receptions that Ray Rice gets I'd have to see that he is the slot receiver, although Pitta and Dickson also get a lot of work as the number 3 WR job. I'd say that Laquan Williams is probably the number three guy on the depth chart considering the amount of time I see him on the field, but he's used much more as a blocker down field (at which he has done a very good job) than he is as an actual receiver.

I've always thought Ed Reed was our 3rd WR. People just seem to forget about him because he doesn't have Joe as his quarterback like our other receivers.

Sheesh is everyone clueless here-Evans isn't our golden boy his injury is way worse that the front office is letting on. Remember first it was Evans out for a week-then it was a couple - now its been 6 games and counting-Kindle will never start a game as a Raven-we have Jerry Lewis as a quarterback,we haven't drafted a great player in more than 5 years-our makeshift offense looks anemeic with Flacco back there, our special teams is not gelling. We don't know who's going to start on the O-line from one week to the next. Cam Cameron is a joke and we are going into Pittsburgh expecting what exactly? We have got one thing going for us OUR DEFENSE-and it's because of them that we are even in contention in this division. They forced the Cardinals to go 3 and out almost the whole second half-they beat up Roethlisberger in the first game-they handed Bradford his lunch as they did Sanchez-it's about time all of us start paying them accolades they deserve-we would be nowhere if it was left up to our offense-wake up my fellow fans lets not settle for another year of wishing and praying-it's time for results after all we are paying the bills around here!
