Philip Rivers?!
Is he still an elite QB? He's thrown only thrown 7 TD and has 11 INT and 3 lost fumbles, throwing 2 in 5 games, including 2 in the 1st Quarter against the Chiefs. He only made half of his passes against a struggling Jets team, for 179 yd. He threw 0 TD against the atrocious (at the time) KC D. The only 2 Ds he threw 2 more than 2 TD, his season high, were the last-ranked Pats and the inconsistent Vikings. He has some of the best offensive weapons and a sturdy D to back him up.
Best offensive weapons?

Gates- never healthy so i wouldnt even count him
floyd- average wr with a good qb
jackson- good wr but very inconsistent
mathews- injury problems
tolbert- decent back

I dont see anything to be too excited about. Lving out here in SD i have to hear all the excuses known to man why he is failing right now. A show i listen to somtimes (1360) even went as far as saying its because he had a baby recently and isnt getting as much sleep as he needs

Philip Rivers has a set of very, very solid weapons. He's also had Ryan Mathews to lean on, who has averaged over 120 yards per game through the last 7 weeks. His struggles continue to baffle me.

Half a year would have you change an opinion on someone who has consistently shown to be an excellent WR? The guy has been banged up, and along with Rivers slow start, it hasn't helped his stats.

I'm a big Rivers fan, and this slump hasn't changed my opinion on him whatsoever. The only guys I'd take ahead of him right now are Rodgers, Brady, Brees, and Big Ben.

But his weapons aren't the problem. Floyd, and V-Jax is a very nice duo, and the running game hasn't been better since LT left. Also, Rivers was making guys picked off from the streets look like pro-bowlers last year. I really have no explanation other than Rivers simply going through the worst slump of his career. But I have zero doubt he will rebound and get back to his elite ways.

Not at all. Vjax's body of work as a career is very nice. But this is a "what have you done fore me lately" league. Before the year began i would agree wit you and put him as a top ten, but with lack of production i cant justify still calling him a top ten, a top ten potential yes. Thats like calling CJ a top ten rb or hell, lets call TO a top ten wr because what hes done in the past.

im a huge rivers fan as well, ever since i saw him play with a torn ACL or MCL, cant remember. The chargers remind me of a weaker packers team

Yeah, but CJ has been flat out terrible, and T.O.'s NFL career is most likely done.

Jackson is still on pace for a 1,000 yards, and unless he gets injured, I still see him ending up with 11 to 12 hundred yards. Jackson should rebound along with Rivers in the 2nd half of the year.

I don't see how these analogies apply. Vincent Jackson is on pace for 61 receptions, 1,078 yards and roughly 7 TDs. That's not a far cry from his most productive seasons, those being 2009 and 2008 outputs, wherein he averaged 64 receptions, 1,132 yards and 8 TDs. His rank among WRs in receiving yards is also unsurprising, given that he's only 21st in targets in comparison to being 10th and 11th during his best 2 years. Chris Johnson, on the other hand, is on pace for just over half of his rushing yards from 2010, and a 6th of his TDs. I don't believe that I'd even have to compare his dismal 2.8 YPC to his previous outputs to further my point. Terrell Owens is out of football, and likely will be miss the entire 2011 season, so he doesn't fit anywhere near this equation. I've considered Jackson a borderline Top 10 WR in the past, and personally, his performance thus far hasn't been lackluster enough to negatively affect that opinion.

i was simply dropping names as an example of the past doesnt matter, sorry for the confusion. I guess his numbers seem a lot better than id guess with your projections considering hes ranked 21. That means a lot of guys will be having 1,000+ season. If your projections are right then ill eat my words, but other than his two big games he hasnt done much. hes just not my cup of tea.

Ah, I understand, and no problem. Yes, I agreed, there probably will be a few more WRs breaking the millennium mark than . That last point is a valid point as well. Though Rivers hasn't been at his best, he's still throwing for roughly 297 yards per game, so Jackson has to shoulder at least some of the blame for amassing a mere 98 yards in his last 3 games. The talent is there, and though he hasn't been targeted as much, I'm sure he could be doing something to improve on those numbers. In all honesty, I'm not sure where his season will end up. I see him finishing anywhere between 950 - 1,150 yards and 6-7 TDs.

with Vjax being the size he is, id treat him like calvin johnson, just lob it up to him and let him make the play.
