Biggest surprise of Game 3? Besides the fact that we lost, what surprised you the most?

I was actually surprised the most by our 4th quarter drive. I really did not believe that we had that in us. In a hostile environment with a rookie QB and HC, we were able to drive the field and scored a touchdown to tie the game against one of the toughest defenses.

But I was suprised by the rest of the options as well.

I'll agree that the 4th quarter drive to score a TD was the most surprising. However, a close second for me, had to be the lack of turnovers, since everything about this game at first glance evoked memories of last year's MNF nightmare.

The number of pass plays called was a pleasant surprise, but nothing too shocking, since I had a slight feeling that Cam Cameron would want to surprise the Steelers and put part of the game on Flacco's shoulders.

And it turned out to be a decent call on Cam's part.

The 4th quarter scoring drive because I have never seen it done by this team before. I dont know about a lack of turnovers. We coughed the ball up a couple of times. Fumbles whether we recover them or not are drive killers.

I guess by "lack of turnovers," I'm looking at it in terms of throwing key interceptions or fumbling in the red zone.

Granted, a fumble is a fumble, but outside of that one recovered for a TD, there weren't any that truly put the nail in the coffin on the Steelers' behalf.

Agreed and i do like us attacking the defense and going for TDs with the pass in the redzone...

I should have put it a different way, I didn't mean a lack of turnovers by our offense. I meant a lack of takeaways from our defense. We had one INT and that's it.

There we go I updated the poll answer to takeaways.

I dont know. Fumbling on the very first snap of the game, totally killed the first drive. The 3rd fumble that Yanda recorved put us in even worse field position then we already were and it came on 3rd down. That last one added to crowd's enthusiasm. When your playing on the road, you definitly dont need to give the crowd any extra ammo. Those fumbles did that, especially that last one.

it was ridiculous
Thats hardly surprising. We've always had problems with that.

Yea it wasn't a suprise to me either that is why I didn't list it. Why do you think we didn't see Frank Walker.

With a team like ours, and Hines Ward provoking, stupid penalties are something we can't seem to stop.

- Special Teams
That was just embarrassing. Figurs struggled the entire game, he looked terrible. And then he basically ruins the game for us at the end before the game went to overtime when he decided NOT to field the punt. Of course, after the ball bounced inside our redzone he made a "great" decision, picked the ball up and just ran out of bounds. Brilliant.

4th quarter touchdown, our offense actually has a backbone now! So instead of running the ball up the middle 3 times in a row and then punting, we actually throw the ball down the field more! :D
Todd Heap continuing to be a nonfactor
He was a non-factor in the passing game, sure. But everytime Heap was in there, he was working on pass protection. I think he was limited due to play calling. Our coaches wanted as much protection for Joe Flacco as possible in this game. So we had to sacrifice sending Heap out on routes.

I would have to say I was really dissapointed with our Special Teams. I think someone else shouldve been out there if Figurs wasnt fully healthy. I woulda loved to see Tom Z or Nakamura.

Other then that Im happy with our team despite the fact we lost. I mean cmon. I see a promising future for our team in offense for the first time.

whoa nobody mentioned the 10+ seconds Flacco had to throw the ball to Mase? I could've sworn that was McNabb out there for a second!

I clicked OTHER

I thought considering the crowd noise I thought Flacco did outstanding.
You can clearly see he was a mess first batch of plays but he got confidant real fast. He learns from each mistake.
If Flacco can handle last nights noise the rest should be cake.
