Suggs...DPOY Chances?

111 posts in this topic

Suggs is leading the pack now......especially from our team. He's at 13 which is only two behind Demarcus Ware who the media and league slobber all over. Anyone see him help lose that game last night with two offsides penalties lol? Lovin' it. Sizzle go get that DMVP.

If the Dallas Cowboys miss the playoffs I do not think DeMarcus Ware will win DPotY if Suggs is within 3 sacks of him.
That makes sense. I also think our D being #1 in the NFL, with Suggs clearly leading the way this year, will help. Clay Matthews was the best player last year but Polamalu was the best player on a better defense.

Guess you don't read SI....Peter King is the one that mentioned it. I don't see it happening but if he is in talks for that, he might as well get DPOY with his 13 sacks, 6 FF, and 2 interceptions.

Yeah, he's been fantastic this season both against the run and the pass. Same as Von Miller. I wanna see what they do next season when offenses try to shut them down. They'll be getting a lot more attention next season.
I think both will continue to have success next yr also because even when offenses focus on them , they will still have other dominant players to stop ( Denver - gameplan for Dummervil, DJ Williams also ) ( Giants - Tuck, Osi, and Kiwankua all have to be accounted for also ). It's gonna be hard to gameplan to phase them out game...

Lol I was gonna say Suggs isn't exactly new to the league, people have made game plans for him, but unfortunately you can't dedicate your entire O line to one guy when you have Haloti, Lewis, Kruger, McPhee, etc on the field.......OC's must have nightmares before playing us.

Suggs is without a doubt our MVP on defense. He is the only player that if he ever went down with an injury that I think the Ravens would truly feel the drop off in talent with our replacement. No one can do what he does on our team because he does everything for our team. Now an argument could be made for Ed Reed or Ngata being more important to our team, but definitely this is the year of the Suggs. He is the majority of the reason why our defense is so elite. He is the reason why other young players on our team are making a significant impact. It is the year of the Suggs.

This will help : Suggs got AFC DPOW for the third time this year :

http://espn.go.com/b...yer-of-the-week

In the first 14 weeks , Ravens defenders have captured the award 5 times.

When asked about his outstanding season so far , and his ranking near the top of DPOY candidates , Suggs replied :
" I really have to thank the Steelers offensive line. They gave me such a good start to the season , letting me slide by for 3 sacks in game one. That helped set the tone for the rest of the season. If I get DPOY , I'm taking those guys to dinner."

If and when he has a big game this Sunday night, the whole NFL will be watching and will see how special a player he is.

It's time for these guys on D to get their ring. They are all better than any of the Steeler's defensive players.

Suggs>Woodley, Ngata>Kisel, Reed>Clark, Webb>Taylor, Lewis>Farrior, Suggs>Harrison.

Why are you talking about the Steelers players, this is about T Sizzle! IMO he is the frontrunner for DPOTY because he affects and impacts the overall outcome of the game moreso than Jared Allen has, just look at where the two teams stand.

I think personally, if he gets a couple more sack in the next game he would have put himself in as number 1 candidate... Heck, he already won defensive player for the second week in a row...

Absolutely.

I'd love to see Suggs roll out a quote like that the next time he's on with Bayless. That would raise a few eyebrows.

I concocted it mainly to yank the chains of the Steeler trolls , who seem to be under every rock around here lately.

Yeah I guess it's just not these "forums" that believe he is in the talks. 3 three sack games is incredible. 3 DPOTW is incredible. Lets see if he can beat Gaither like a drum.

Hahahah that quote from Suggs. He's such a likable guy.

If he keeps playing the way he has all season I don't think there's a better candidate for DPOTY. I really don't. Well, maybe Jared Allen. He's having a monster year as well.

Team performance is usually factored in to these awards if two players are close. For that reason, I think Jared Allen would have to break the single season sack record for him to have a chance at winning DPOY.

Except everyone's forgotten the Vikings even exist. Without All Day they're irrelevant.

I want to see the list of Left Tackles that Allen's played this year. I'm pretty sure they're almost all scrubs who any competent pass rusher would eat alive.

Suggs is controlling games on a winning team (that experts have at the top of the AFC) which, paired with 15+ sacks, should be enough for DPoY.

After Ware helped lose that Giants game with two horrible offsides penalties on plays the Cowboys had won I think his stock has fallen. I don't see ahead of Suggs at this point in the game. We're talking all around stats not just sacks. I hope at a minimum he breaks the franchise record for sacks. He's looking real good for DPOY right now.

The difference between Jared Allen and Demarcus Ware this year is the publicity. Their stats may be better, but the situations for Suggs are massively better.

Suggs has been getting all sorts of publicity because he has big games and and those big games are in primetime. Also it's helpful that he's going to have 5 games in primetime and are 3-1 in them so far, whereas the Vikings only have two primetime games, and the Cowboys are 2-3 in their primetime games, but their collapses in the losses have been the bigger story there.

A bit more of a breakdown.

Ware has only had one game with more than 2 sacks, he had 4 in a blowout loss to Philly in week 7. No other big games.

Allen has only had two games with more than 2 sacks, he had three in each loss to the Lions.

Suggs has had three games with more than 2 sacks, the first game against the Steelers, the 49ers, and the Colts. He also had a huge interception that got a lot of airtime in the 2nd Steelers game, and in two of his three sack games, he also had 2 and 3 forced fumbles. And of course it helps a lot that the Ravens have won all three of those games.

If the season ended today, I don't think there's any doubt that Suggs would be a shoe-in for Defensive Player of the Year.

Suggs is the best LB in the game, IMO. At the very least, he is our DPOY.
Thank you! I'm glad someone said it! I agree that Suggs is at the least the very best OLB right now. He has taken his game to a whole new level. Every time we have an offense pinned deep in their end I keep having flashbacks of him stripping guys like ben and brady for touchdowns.
