Suggs...DPOY Chances?

111 posts in this topic

Suggs has been lights out this season. I mean he has really taken it to another level... His tackles for loss, sacks, forced fumbles, QB hits should not go unnoticed....

Suggs should begin getting consideration for Defensive Player Of The Year for this season.....

If Suggs doesn't win the award, the winner will have to be someone who's taken over games the way Suggs has this season -- and I'm hard-pressed to think of many players that have, even among his own teammates.

I think Suggs has a really stong chance.

Either gonna be Revis, Suggs, Jarred Allen, Ngata, Ware, hell Ray Lewis is playing at that level to

Ngata and Suggs both have to be front runners for it. Now, if Suggs has a huge game next week like he always does against Pittsburgh, his chances skyrocket even more.

No one is better than sacking Roethlisberger than Suggs. We'll all know who Ben's *** belongs to.

I can't think of anyone playing better than Suggs right now. He certainly would deserve the DPOY nod.

Suggs has been playing really well, but Jared Allen has been beating the brakes off of people. He already has 12.5 If he went on IR right now he would probably still end up as one of the top three sackers this season.

Steeler fans are claiming Woodley.

Suggs, Ngata, Ray Lewis, Jared Allen, Polamalu if he makes a tackle in the 4th quarter against us, Woodley, and Woodson are all in it. But I think if should go to one of our guys or Jared Allen.

Jared Allen having a great season

And Demarcus Ware is in the running, ten tackles, four sacks and a forced fumble tonight

But Suggs is right up there and has a great chance of DPOY

Top three for me so far, hopefully Suggs will carry it on, he is always a beast against the Steelers

I think he's definitely in the running. Leaving secondary out of it, Allen and Ware are the front runners. I think, looking at the stats, Suggs and Woodley are pretty close in the running. He has a chance to pull away from Woodley next Sunday, though, which would be preferable. There's a lot of football left to be played and as long as he keeps it up he'll be a candidate.

I don't think he'll win it, but it sure would be impressive to have 3 DPOY's on the same defense.

Well right now there is nobody on the steelers or jets that are playing better imo but they are media darling so it will probably be somebody like troy P, Woodley, or Farrior as much as people are on there jock. And for the Jets Bevis would be top 3 if he was in a motorized wheelchair and a blindfold.

I hate to say it but suggs wont win although he is top 3 right now, and todays 5 TFL performance and 10= tackles are pretty damn good among his peers.

I know Jared Allen and D.Ware have double digit. Sacks already. But now and days nfl awards are given based on team performance also... Because I still can't explain Ed reed missing 6 games stil leading league in ints ( a stat ) but polumalu gets the nod because they won the division, had better record....

Suggs would have to really turn up the heat in the second half of the season. He's been dominant, but sacks are the sexy number for a pass rusher, and with Ware and Allen going all out for those it's tough for a guy like him to compete. Ngata might have a chance, but it's tough for a DT to accrue the kinds of stats that impress voters in a 3-4 system.

Jared Allen has to be up there near the top of the list, but the impact that Suggs has made on the best defense in the league thus far, I think it lines up perfectly for him

suggs is playing great so far. he was a main factor for yesterdays win. he looks to be in the best shape of his life. however, guys like ware, allen, woodley are coming to my mind when wee talking about DPOY. it is what it is. they don't like our ravens in this league....

Suggs needs about 10 more sacks to with the DPOY.... That's the truth of the matter. That's what people focus on from a DE, though Suggs is the MOST complete out of the Elite, IMO. He could have had 4 sacks yesterday.

Yea I was thinking the same thing. Not sure that he will need 10 more, but I know he was pissed after the two sacks that he had but couldn't bring Kolb down cleanly. He better do just a little better bringing Ben down though. Can't Wait!

I'm thinking it would probably take 10 more because the leaders in sacks have doubled Suggs output, Jared Allen with 12.5 and Demarcus with 12. Ware and Allen might be breathing down the neck of Strahans record. It's a shame though, Suggs is dominating ALL PARTS of the game, he's not a one trick pony.

Yea I know he does. I was just referring to the way he was wrapping up and trying to bring down Kolb. With Suggs it's never been getting to the QB because he can do that, but it's sometimes getting the QB down. Suggs is a monster though!

Yea you have a good point, but Suggs has caused quite a few fumbles and INT's as well and that should hold some weight. I think if Suggs could get to around 12-14 sacks and keep up the high tackle total, tackles for losses, and continue to cause turnovers all while this defense stays at the top of the league he will have a real good shot. I say this because I look back at last year with Troy getting the award but his stats weren't even as good as others but he was really good for his team, was up near the top with his stats, and his team was top in the league. Suggs has a real shot but he has to keep up the pressure.

I hope he gets it! the other guys are playing CRAZY right now though. Not that Suggs isnt, the sack totals really grab attention. Not to mention, they're equal to Suggs or better in other statistical categories. Though, we get to watch Suggs closer... He's OUR GUY!

I believe that Jared Allen might have to finish with 20 sacks to get the recognition because the Team isn't having a good year...

D.Ware always collects 15+ sacks but it doesn't affect his teams play on field ( no leadership or setting tone occurs with his sacks!)

Revis I could see getting it regardless if Jets make playoffs because ESPN would hype it up as Revis did his Job sanchez lost it all lol

C. Woodson is playing great but he won it like 2 yrs ago ( and seeing as how they have been reluctant to give ED REED his 2nd DPOY award I don't think it will be him. )

Woodley should get strong consideration given his play without Harrison opposite of him ....

As well as he's playing, I don't know if Sizzle's chances at a DPOY are high right now. The voters seemingly only look at splash plays and common statistics like sacks, forced fumbles, interceptions, touchdowns, etc. Plays that don't show up on the stat sheet like blowing up a blocker to help shut down a run or when Suggs hit Kolb and forced an interception don't to be taken into account.

Personally, I don't care. We in Baltimore(well, most of us) know how good Sizzle is.

I was going to say, maybe Jared Allen is in tight contention for the award because his sacks are well documented. He's got 12.5 through 8 games and is on pace to break Strahans record.
