One of the Steelers beat writers just tweeted that James Harrison will be active and starting tonight.

Not to disappoint but I live in Steeler country, with a Steeler fan BF. I watch them every week, plus all their local shows. Yeah, it is painful. I know plenty about them and I've seen them play. Sorry, yes, they have evolved some from Week 1. They are passing more because they can't get their run game going. They have shored up their weak secondary some but it has come at the expense of their usually stellar run defense, meaning they no longer stack the box so much. Ben is still playing like Ben. He perhaps is not making his sandwich before throwing the ball but he still usually holds the ball a long time. I think he just likes to scramble around some. Everyone is making a lot of his performance vs NE but you know, NE has nothing on defense. It was not all that other than taking time off the clock to keep Brady on the bench.

A lot of people live in the United States and watch the news - that doesn't mean they have a clue why the economy hasn't recovered despite two massive rounds of stimulus that the country could not afford. Can you explain to me why we have a flat CPI but inflation with commodities? Can you explain the reason for the housing bubble?

Just because you watch shows means you understand what is happening. For instance - the aging population is the baby boomers no longer having to spend as much money to maintain their lifestyle and since 70% of GDP is due to consumer spending when the consumer stops spending it has a domino effect. The housing bubble grew out of more than just banks lending, but mortgage backed securities that were getting AAA ratings from ratings agencies and leading investors into believing they were good investments - especially compared to the low interest rate enviornment. Banks had no standards for lending and assumed that people would always pay their mortgages and real estate would never decline in value.

Your interpretation of what the Steelers are doing is a very incorrect one. They are passing because they cannot run? They have shored up their pass defense at the expense of their run defense?

Ben has been throwing the ball more quickly for weeks - since the Houston game. The month of October was his best as a professinal QB. He'll still hold on the ball and do his thing, but they have adapted to what they have to do and their talent allows them to do. Last week was the first time it got attention. The reason they are not as good at stopping the run is the age of Hampton, Hoke, Smith and Farrior - Smith just suffered a career ending injury and the others just cannot play at the same leve they used to. The decline in stopping the run has to do with age, the improved play in the secondary has to do with with new young players.

The only way Pitsburgh can beat us (offensivley), is tiny short screens. Defensivley, it's Polomalu and Harrison. We beat them week one, we can do it again.

Yes, Flacco could have done more to help the offense, maybe take some more risky throws into double coverage, but when you have a defense like the Ravens' there's no need to do that. Also, the Ravens haven't been running the ball much. We have thrown on 60% of plays on offense. So in the Raven's 4 wins and the second half of the last win, it was Joe who carried the offense against some of the best defenses in the league.

Everyone wants to say Ben is looking great now, but against who? Against the last-in-the-league Pats pass D? I say wait until after this game. When Roethlisberger has time, he plays great. The problem is he's had two games where he HASN'T had time - against the Ravens and against the Texans. Both were losses. Likewise, the Ravens' offense had one full bad game against the Jags, but the Steeler offense had one full bad half against that team.

When Joe's numbers go back up, it will appear to people that he's "finally playing well" when in reality it will just be the offensive scheme that has changed.
You know the difference between Ben and Joe. Ben has a track record of success - games with perfect passer ratings, throwing for over 400 and 500 yards. 4th fastest QB to win 75 games, 10-3 in the playoffs. He's had a great month; but he's proven what he is and the success he's attained. And prior to the Patriots game this board absolutely was all about how the Steelers would be destroyed by New England, but after the game you'll downplay it.

Joe Flacco has a career of inconsistent performances and playoff wins that he's been more role player on than a guy who made plays that won them.

And what you call carrying teams to wins - that 10/31 for 163 yards, 0 TD and 1 INT performance vs. Jets really was amazing. As was his dazzling display against a winless and 1 win team - the Arizona one was fortunate that you even won it, and the it wasn't Flacco that fueled the win over the Steelers - it was 7 turnovers and a phenomenal TEAM effort.

Sorry to give you the truth, but it is what it is. By the way - the defense that you criticized so much against Pittsburgh is looking pretty good against the 1st place Giants now. But, hey - anything to downplay the Steelers, right?

Troy is utilized differently every week - he's not a CB. The Steelers are playing more man coverage because of the two rookie CBs. Polamalu still roams the field - in a similiar but still yet different way that Reed does.

The Bradshaw and Nicks-less Giants? Sure. How about that Pats offense the Steelers miraculously contained?

I'm not trying to say Joe is better than Ben, so there's no need to get all Steeler-fan by bringing up the past successes to argue against present failures. It's worthless to argue with you because you just fall back on how Joe did for 6 quarters this season, and neglect how he did for 4 quarters against your team.

Patriots have the worst defense period. Steelers, played a great game against them. But the patriots defense has been bad all season.

Where are all the awesome regular Steeler posters? All we've gotten are trolls who just signed up five seconds ago.

I dont think he was using the Rookie thing as an excuse now.

I think it was more to point out that people are saying he sucks and so on and so forth expecting SB's by now but the cat would have had to start that his rookie season and win 2 from there to satisfy some people.

that is just how I read it though.

you are correct sir! thanks!

Mili, comprehension, my friend, comprehension He was/is wanting 3-4 SB's of recent. Which would have required a rookie QB, sophomore QB and 3rd year QB to accomplish this.
you are right! i totally jumped the gun big time on that one. i just get tired of seeing all the excuses in here that people make for Flacco. my bad! but my comprehension is solid when i am paying attention bruh! now...carry on my friend. What an awesome game, though the SNF folks at the end for that last TD were driving me crazy. They couldn't shut up about whatever thought they were still having when the ref announced the penalty had been declined and it was ruled a TD. I was screaming at the TV "Please be quiet. AND CONFIRM IF IT WAS JUST RULED A TD!!!!"

The only negative for me is that the coaches are wasting jimmy smiths season. He's healthy and your #1 pick, let him play. I hope he plays next week

Here is a takeaway -
The Ravens gave back at least 21 points.

-Ray Rice run for TD called back
-Ray Rice run for TD called back by ref who blew the whistle too soon
-Missed Field Goal
-TD drops by Bolding and Smith

Joe Flacco had to fight not only the defense but the ref's and his own players to overcome their mistatkes.
Flacco played a great game.
The receivers, front line and running back played average. Defense played good, not great.

Flacco had to carry the team team to a win. Without any sacks and turnovers, it was up to Flacco.

So to all the negative Flacco haters, "Go root for another team"

I was predicting that this game would end up in a Ravens victory 24 to 21 and it ended up 23 to 20. I hoped that Ward would play only to get knocked out of the game and it happened. I predicted that Suggs would have a big play, while it wasn't the sacks that he had last time, it was a key drive-killing interception. I predicted that Torrey Smith would impact the outcome with a big catch and we all know how the game ended. I'm not saying that i'm psychic or anything but they rocked last night. Shut up the Renegade song and the fans were left with their mouths open in disbelief! Now, we can't have a letdown in Seattle like we did in Tennessee and Jacksonville. We have to take care of Cinncinnati and Cleveland twice. The playoff picture is looking clear now. Home field advantage.

One guy who won't get the props he deserves for this game is Lardarius Webb. He played against faster receivers and he isn't afraid to make a tackle. When he stuck Mendenhall in the backfield by himself, that was big for a CB.
