Notice The Coaching Move Where Ray Rice Got The Ball Near The Goal Line

20 posts in this topic

All I can say is "Wow" after we came back to defeat the Cardinals today. Harbs and Cameron had a second-half plan for the boys because we were getting embarrassed at home. That plan included a coaching move to put Flacco in the shotgun to improve his passing efficiency. Although I am getting concerned about Flacco's ball security when dropping back to pass, I could not help but notice the coaches' move to get Ray Rice touches near the goal line, and he produced. We saw Rice's and Harbs' 'give and take' a couple a weeks ago against the Texans on the sideline when Ricky Williams got the ball near the goal line after Rice brought them there on that drive. The coaches know Ray Rice is our offensive catalyst, and they made sure he could help us to our glory today. My question is: Could anybody identify any other moves or adjustments by the staff that were significant today in what was the greatest comeback in Ravens' history?

Boldin played out of his mind. He WAS our offense in the 3rd quarter.

Oh yeah, Boldin is The Man, but Rice and he are The Men.

Yeah I know what happened. Cam was told to back off a bit and it worked. Joe was comfortable and the offense fired up.

Joe and Q set up those TDs for Rice. While the stats may look misleading, we dominated the 2nd half through the air.

Joe in the shotgun, it just feels right. Especially when the OLine was crumbling so badly when he was under center. I've NEVER seen so many free runners in my life. Yikes.

Joe should be in gun about 75 percent of the time.....

good team Effort
Exactly.

This game was one of the more unified games. Offense was rolling, yet they had a ways to go. The totally relied on the defense to keep the game with in reach.

Awesome job on both sides of the ball ( well offense in the second half)

***Edit: Special teams needed a little help. Where was all of Cundiffs touchbacks ?

A lot of those free runners were blitzing linebackers. There are 5 olineman, and they consistently blitzed more than that.

It was pretty windy, You could see the ball being "pushed back" when it was reaching its peak at the game. Thats at least what I noticed from my seat.

yeah, you are right but special teams did allow a bit too much return.

Well WAY too much at one point in time.

ST has been an issue, as of late. We rarely get it past the 20 on kick returns, our punt returns are mediocre too. Also, kick/punt D is shoddy. Everyone saw it, but 5 missed tackles on that return today. Also a big return in the Jax game.

Yea it is. I was complaining about this all day today. ST on all sides has been horrible except for Koch. Its really quite annoying when we have to go 85+ yards all the time to try and score a TD.

We need some sort of spark, I don't know what it is, but something has to give.

I'd like to see more intermediate routes though. We hit some today, but considering we threw 51 times and completed 31 of those, most were very short underneath routes to Dickson and especially Pitta. I'd like to see improvement in the 10-20 yard range because that has been the smallest portion of our completed passes this season, especially today. The only ones I remember us connecting on were the sideline completions to Q.

We need a full-time, legit, but expendable KR and PR. D. Reed is a decent kick returner but we've got a revolving door at PR. Webb (who almost got hurt), Carr, and E. Reed all took their shots at it - if any of those 3 got hurt, we'd never hear the end of it. Of course, great returners - who are worth using an active spot on - are hard to come by.

Still, no excuses for the penalties, botched blocking, and missed tackles. They don't coach it that way...

Just doesn't seem to be in Cam's gameplans. He likes to run the receivers at the sideline and have short outlets. I agree though. Wish we could perfect the slant passes. I also miss the D-Mase curl at times.

Ok.... what's the point? Backs and TE'S need to do a better job....

Agreed. I think Leach should be in there for blocking more often than he is, though I do understand the decoy usage of leaving in Rice. This is what we lost with Heap. He was a great blocking TE. Dickson and Pitta have improved in this area but they are not yet on the level of Heap.

and to be honest, Heap had to work REALLY hard to become a servicable blocker. He was primarily a pass catching TE before Cam and Harbs took over. The first year was BAD, but the las 2 were pretty decent.
