Is he really doing that well at LT? I don't think so, and I really don't think he was a upgrade over Oher. He has been absolutely atrocious at times, in the run and the pass. That strip-sack today was ugly. Was Oher better? Is McKinnie doing better?

What do you guys think?

I would prefer to have Oher on the right side and have him on the left. Like Kevin Byrnes was saying, he's working on the same side of Gurode, both learning a new offense.

I'm under the impression we got McKinne for the OL in general. We shuffled oher because it made sense. The real question is whether or not he is playing better than Reid at RT. without picking him up we would be playing a rookie at right tackle, or maybe LeVoir.

Give him the help of Grubbs and I'd keep McKinnie there. Our offense can't depend on the O-line like we used to, we have to play around it. Except for running the ball. We did great against a surprisingly good Cardinal run D.

"Learning an offense" is not an excuse for a veteran Pro Bowl LT. He already learned how to block, why is he getting beat so much? Different offenses don't block differently, so why is that a valid excuse? Obviously they have different blocking schemes, but the fundamentals of blocking are all the same.

After we went on the spread offense, McKinnie and the O-line as a whole did much better. But to answer your question, no, I wouldn't prefer Oher to McKinnie on the left side. Just give him some time...

And since Oher was mentioned, he did not commit a false start penalty today! :o

McKinnie - Grubbs - Birk - Yanda - Oher > Oher - Grubbs - Birk - Chester - Yanda

if that answers your question.

Why is Chester even in that post?

The irony is, McKinnie did!!! And guess what? No one's raggin on him about it! But I know if Oher commited a false start, it'd be the end of the world.

I am disappointed in him. He only uses his massive size to block opposing pass rushers and any speed rusher will simply get around him. I expected him as a veteran to have better technique but he's relying a lot on his physicality which is not good for Joe's blindside. I also rarely see him run block into the 2nd level and I believe his play isn't top notch because he doesn't have Ben Grubbs to help him out He's doing an OK job, but he really needs to step it up.

It actually occured to me in the first half that someone would start a McKinney thread, lol. But I don't blame you. He looks slow out there and hasn't had a performance like he did on opening day since.

i think he needs grubbs beside him, he shutdown harrsion week 1 with grubbs there, but with andre, hes gone to crap tbh, maybe hes kinda half concerned about gurodes man aswell as his own, concentration doesnt seem to be there or something, its bonehead plays like letting a man run untouched and blocking someone else, rather than him just getting beat one on one. so its very plausible the week play of LG is affecting his game. but we wont find out to grubbs is back

Because I'm saying our offensive line this year is better than the offensive line of 2010. McKinnie will probably be the weak link when Grubbs is back but overall the line will be better.

Yeah, I do like it too, just disappointed with the inconsistent play of a supposed Pro Bowl LT.

Our run game wasn't doing that bad to be honest. Cam just abandoned it too early again. Just like he does every game.

Well yeah. Agreed on that. But that didn't really answer my question.

I don't know if McKinnie is doing better than Oher did, honestly both are pretty bad, but the OL on the whole has to be better because we have Yanda back at his normal position and Oher at RT.

Our O-Line played great against Pitt when we had Grubbs, so if anything Gurode is the weak link. Although Mckinnie does get beat a bit.

Well I don't know about a direct Oher/McKinnie matchup but because the rest of our line is much better with McKinnie at LT, I would rather McKinnie be in there.

McKinney and Garode were both great pickups , but I see them as temporary patches over a gaping hole. This offseason the OL has to be a primary focus for upgrade. Those two , along with Birk , are past their primes and all can be pushed around at times , especially when they're gassed.

I think thats a fair statement. I think Oher may be a slightly better LT just because of his better athleticism, but our OL as a whole is better with him.

McKinnie-Grubbs-Birk-Yanda-Oher > Oher-Grubbs-Birk-Yanda-Reid/Cousins/Harewood etc...

It would really help McKinnie to have Grubbs back. Both McKinnie and Gurode are new to the offensive line, so they coud take some time to get adjusted.

I dont see mckinnie as the problem as most of the time teams get pressure up the middle so if anything grubbs is the big diffrence not being in there gurode and yanda stink it up on pass protection , birk cant block three people .. while mckinnie hasnt been lights out great he is better at LT than Oher would be at this point

Going to reserve judgement on McKinnie until Grubbs gets back. He played lights out week 1, not so much when he's paired with Gurode.

The first video replay on NFL.com for this game is Flacco's fumble.. just watch McKinnie on that play LOL.

Gurode is a pro-bowl center filling in at guard. Gurode will most likely be our center next year when Birk retires.

Absolutely. He's WAY better at center.

Absolutely. Our real focus should be on a LT. I think McKinnie can still get it done this season and possibly next season, but we need to be looking forward a couple of years. We have a very young offensive line when you take out Birk and McKinnie, I would love to see us pick up a LT to make us that much more complete.
Centers are easier to find anyway. I thought we had a promising prospect in Tim Barnes but he got cut in the offseason..
