I Am Done Watching This Team For The Season - For Their Own Good

55 posts in this topic

I have mentioned this before, but when I've watched this team twice - both losses. The superstition of watching vs. not watching has been with my family since before I was born. Therefore, it is my hope that by not watching, not getting on this board, not thinking about the NFL in any way shape or form until February, Flacco will play like he did to finish out last year, the run game will get going, the defense will get better, Lee Evans and Ben Grubbs will return and dominate, and most importantly, the Ravens will win the Superbowl. I'm going to be unable to watch ANY sort of football for the next four years do to medical school commitments, and I was hoping to have one last enjoyable season before diving into the hardest task I will ever complete in my life. Alas, I value Superbowl titles over my personal enjoyment. And let's be honest, every time we lose or someone says something poor about any of our players, I become incredibly angry, to the point of irrational, because I don't want to believe that any of our players are anything but the best at their positions in the league, as crazy as this sounds. So, for my health and the success of the Ravens, there will be no more fandom from me. Whatever superstitions/lucky charms the rest of you fans and your friends have, I suggest you keep them up the whole season. Our team is tough and talented, but they need the fans to be full in force behind them. After what the Saints did in 2006, I really believe that not only can a team rally a city, but the hopes and prayers of a city pulling together can inspire a team to play better. This is Ravenslifer wishing the Ravens success for the last time this season. I believe there is a great chance I will be able to say some things on February 5, 2012. Just execute, and we will succeed.

In that case... we'll miss you! Or actually, we won't... because that will be good for the team? Wait, I'm confused. Whatever your crazy methods are, if they end up working... that's awesome!

We all feel this way sometimes but if you stop watching to avoid the pain of seeing us lose you also give up the joy of seeing us win.

Just some food for thought.

4-2 and you done? Actually, being faced with adversary early on, this is a good recipe for winning the SB. We are seeing what we can and what we can not do, no false perceptions toward the end of the year. Nothing is guarenteed but its good to go through this stuff this early.

No way I can stop looking at my team though and they could be 0-6 right now.

Here's a way you can still watch many of the remaining games without jinxing the team : Only watch games played on artificial turf , which will mean all home games and probably the majority of away games remaining. Why ? Because both losses have come on grass. Unless and until we lose one on turf , your superstitions have no basis unless we're playing on a grass field , so why deny yourself the pleasure ?

I'm with this.

I was sick as a dog all week after Monday night, still can't believe it, but it is over and done.

Like I've told my sons numerous times; Being a fan means you support your Team through good and bad. If they go 4 and 12 will you be happy? No, of course not. But don't be a "fan in the wind" and abandon your Team for the flavor of the month. Stick with em' and when they win it will taste that much sweeter. After all, if not for the bad, you would never know how "good the good" is!!!

Lifer, I feel your pain man. But don't stop watching, it's not the reason for our crappy coaching and crappy play. Just hope that we right the ship and get rewarded with a run into the post season.

Hmmm, that's curious. I did not know that.

That's exactly what I was thinking. But let's just color me skeptical, and call a spade a spade. This really just sounds like the rant of a fair-weather fan trying to justify de-attachment.

What's the point of being a fan if you chose not to watch any games?

Lol, if you're going that route, at least catch as many Pittsburgh games as you can. ;)

4-2, soon to be 5-2 and if Pittsburgh loses they fall to 5-3 and we are back on top of the AFC North heading into the game next week. I wouldn't count the Ravens out yet. The AFC North will most likely be decided next week(I don't think the Bengals will keep up with the Ravens & Steelers) with the winner of the game. Though if you don't want to watch, that's fine but just make sure to watch Steelers and Patriots game so that we can take the # 1 Seed. That's not the problem. I haven't worn my Ravens boxers for those 2 losses and they are undefeated when I do.

Then wash them puppies and get em' on!

Thanks for taking one for the team. But seriously, would you really be able to resist?

I do the same thing with hockey games. If we are down a goal, I feel like the team ties it up if I don't watch. If I do watch, they lose. So I always turn the game off with at least 5 minutes left.

Won't your theory be disproved when we lose a game that you don't watch? So even if you really believe this nonsense just stop watching until we lose a game and then you can start watching again because you'll know it wasn't because of your superstition.

As long as you go into watching the game with the Ray Lewis mind set... "Win, lose or draw you walk out the same way you came in and everything will be ok... I promise you this....

Or what you could do is trip Ben Roethlisberger down the stairs or something, nothin serious just aggravate that ankle so he is a sitting duck in 2 weeks. I think that would be a better help.

Whenever I wear Ravens apparel they lose. Both losses this season came with my Reed jeresy on my back. Therefore, no more Ravens gear for me on Sundays. Purple Friday works for me though

My superstition is if I dream about them the night before and they lose, they do. If I don't dream about them the night before the game, they win.

Are you kidding me? You seriously get mentally sick from watching a team lose?

Also, how is complaining and running away going to help the Ravens? Wouldn't that hurt the Ravens more than help? I don't see how anyone abandoning the team would help. Don't get me wrong, you scare me with your dedication but let's suppose that people followed you. Less tickets would get sold/ cheers aren't as loud.

Imagine if Colts fans were like this!
