Will Pollard Get The Start Over Zib?

22 posts in this topic

I know they haven't said anything about it, but Zib has always been average and Pollard is playing at a high level, and i'm sure the coaches have noticed. Do you think he'll get the start?

Lets hope not. Zibby is more of a FS while is a prtypical SS. Hes physical against the run and is a good blitzer. I also thinks he has big play instincts while Zibby does the bare minimum. I also think hes underrated in coverage. See that PD he had against Mercedes Lewis...if that was Zibby, that wouldve been six.

Pollard does have a few missed assignments now and then but he's done well. Zibby is still more of a FS to me and should be in nickel packages and Ed's backup. I don't trust Ed's health enough. Pollard's been a beast at forcing fumbles.

Let's hope so, to me it is no question that Pollard is playing some damn good football, take a page from sean peyton and feed the hot hand.

I don't think there's anyone who's watched Pollard over the past few games who wouldn't agree that he earned a starting spot over Zibi.

I can see Zibby and Nakamura rotating with coming into a 3 safety nickel package. Chuck Pagano runs it quite a few times from what I have observed.

Its a match-up thing, and the starting nod is not that important IMO because I think they will both see playing time. Zibby is a better coverage guy, so he might see more of the field because Arizona will probably try to pass on us. I think Pollard has been playing really well too so hopefully they are both used effectively.

Pollard has played great. I don't understand why he hasnt been starting since the beginning of the season. Zibby is an average tackler, nothing spectacular, and average in coverage, again nothing spectacular. Pollard hits ferociously, and he is decent in coverage. Start Pollard.

Lewis didn't drop the TD!! He caught it n pollard smacked it out of his hands...the game angle was hard to tell but I think I seen it on ravens report or something like that...pollard defended it very well

Yeah, um, that one.

Seriously though, if you want to look at Pollard's coverage skills just ask Jacksonville's back up RB.

i don´t get how everybody here believes zibby is better in coverage than pollard. what makes you believe in that? i don´t see those great coverage skills on zibby!
on the other side: pollard is a pure raven type defensive player. he is a proven starter and a hitting machine. he is what we had in landry-without the missed tackles. he forces fumbles. he can blitz. he is one hell of a player!!

it should be no question who starts at ss for us!!!

I would have agreed here in Week 1. Probably still into Week 2. Pollard has shown he has the ability to cover well however. Or all the talk about his poor coverage skills was overblown in the first place. Either way, he's definitely earned the right to start. If he fails in coverage then they can always fall back to Zibby.

Zibby was only this week cleared for contact. I would be very surprised if he starts and/or sees the majority of the defensive snaps. A concussion, especially one as serious as his was (wearing sunglasses to protect his eyes from the sun last week), is not to be underestimated.

I expect to see a lot of Pollard.

I love what Zibby brings on the field and think he isn't as flashy as Pollard can be at times and I feel that when Zibby is healthy and playing full go he is a little more consistent than Pollard is, but I love the way Bernard plays and like someone else said earlier he plays more like a Raven and i want to continue to see that. They will all see some time on the field, including Haruki, and that's a good thing IMO because they all have something a little different to bring to this defense.

Like I've been saying, Pollard makes things happen.... Zibby is NOT a big play guy. He doesn't fit our style, IMO.Especially at SS..

Agreed. Zibby is average both in coverage and in tackling/run support. Pollard makes plays, and thats the kind of player we need on our defense.

Think about the situation us Ravens fans have. We cheer for a team with the best safety of all time, Ed Reed, who's also the best safety right now. We're debating which of the three Ravens safeties - all of whom are good - should play on the other side of him.

I say start Pollard and - if he gets burnt for a long touchdown - put Zibby in. The next long touchdown that a Ravens safety gives up will be the first of the year.

More reasons today on why Pollard fits our team, to a T! He was all over the field and he's STELLAR in run support. picked a sack and a rack of tackles!
