Ed Dickson

I keep expecting him to begin to impress and he never does. He's had problems with drops and it seems like the only catches he gets are the 5 yard variety like the route that got picked off to end the game. I can understand our WR's not being able to get separation since except for Boldin they are all rookies, but as big and fast as Dickson is I expected more by now.

I acknowledge that we really had to part ways with Heap especially since he can't stay healthy, but when our WR's couldn't get separation in the Chiefs playoff game Heap was dominant.

I still think Dickson will turn it around but looking back and seeing that we could have had Jimmy Graham instead Dickson has a long way to go.

I think he's doing very well...he's making an impact. If flacco would target him for the end zone we might be successful.

I think he's doing pretty well. I do agree that he seems to only get short completions under 10 yards. I do get frustrated when I see the success of Jimmy Graham in New Orleans, and I wonder how much of his production is Graham's talent and how much is just Drew Brees. Either way, I like Dickson, but I wish he was utilized properly...

Some tight ends or receivers dont always give a full effort unless its a ball to the endzone because in thier heads nowadays they feel that touchdowns are the only statistics that matter.

Okay but the truth is we will never know anyway because if you ask any receiver or tight end they would never admit that they dont try unless it's to get a touchdown so we will agree to disagree

He's too talented to not get more catches and yards. He reminds me of a faster Dustin Keller.

i just find it hard to believe that these receivers cannot get separation? Why are they playing in the NFL if they cannot do this?

This. I thought we would really see Dickson have a larger role in the vertical passing game. He is the perfect player to be used attacking the seams, but Cam seems to only use him on drag routes and short passing plays over the middle. He needs to get downfield where his size and speed create serious mismatches.

Exactly. I would love to see him as the fourth WR in a four wide set. He has the size and speed to make plays downfield. I remember some of his plays at Oregon, where he was an excellent downfield receiver. Its just a shame that Cam is running the offense.

Exactly what the heck is wrong with Cam Cameron he just doesn't want player to exceed in position where they would be best fitted to. Fire this fool.

He's dropped passes that Heap would have caught. That's all I have to say about him at this point.
[/quote]

He's also ran routes faster and gotten more separation (except against the Jags) than Heap ever could.

i hear you.
considering his catching ability: the catch against the steelers in the first game that was called back because a holding penalty was nasty. three guys around him and he made it. i don´t see him having any problems with his hands. just with the head and the pressure. like torrey had before he had his break out performance against the rams.

those young players need all the confidence in the world!!!

Hmm
” cant believe our cbs can't cover anyone, why are they in the nfl if they can't stick to their man”...

See how the opposite works too

I expected him to light it up this season. And why wouldn't he? He compares physically to a lot of the top tight ends this year. He's faster than most of them, and I thought he had great hands.

Expecting huge numbers from him this year isn't fair.

People are seeing guys like Hernandez, Gronkowski and Graham performing and want Dickson to do the same. Dickson had less playing time last year than any of them and, let's be honest, their Quarterback play is much better/consistent.

Dickson's showing heaps of potential and, being that he's in his second year, that's enough for me at this moment in time.

Well Dickson hasn't been spectacular by no means, but hes been pretty good.

His stats aren't amazing, because hes rarely Flacco's first read, and we all know how much Joe struggles to go through progressions when his first and second options are covered.

He should be used more often I believe. I think Flacco should look to him as his 2nd option after Anquan Boldin and than Ray Rice has his 3rd safety read. Open up the middle of the field with two TE sets and use Dickson or Pitta to get more catches in the flat instead of using your FB. They're big and fast and you should use them as mismatches.

2TEs set is great option to counter attack the zone defense........

I've liked Pitta better since day one , but that's just me. I think it was the right time to let Heap go , and between the two of them we'll end up with a good replacement for Heap.

Sadly this means little if you can't catch the ball.
