Would You Trade Flacco And Rice... For Andrew Luck

76 posts in this topic

Probably not Rice. Rice is the key player of our whole offense and even though Luck is one of the best QB prospects in years, he still not proven on an NFL level.

However, if I could trade Flacco and some picks to trade up and get Luck, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Rice IS a big part of the passing game right now. But perhaps that's because of Flacco? If the Ravens got a quarterback who can consistently hit receivers down the field... Rice doesn't seem like someone the team would really have to pay big money to. He's a good back, but I don't see why any other running back can't do what he does with this team. And there are definitely guys with more breakaway speed, more power, and better blocking.

The purpose of trading Rice isn't because I think he's holding the team back(like Flacco), but to avoid having to:

1. Pay him huge money on a new contract
2. If you don't give him new contract, then avoid losing him with no compensation.

Luck is doing this on a college level. Nobody knows how he will turn out on the pro level, nobody. You can compare him to Manning all you want, talk about his "vision" and "pocket awareness" and all kinds of stuff, but the fact is people playing on the NFL level are far superior to almost anything a college player has seen. Professional football players are bigger, stronger, faster, and smarter than college players, and all pro athletes are playing for their jobs - the truth is it's rare to see a player that cares as little about getting better as say, JaMarcus Russell.

And ask yourself what you're saying if you're going to do this. Luck will need time to learn Cam's system. Because I have a feeling Cam will be here as long as Harbaugh, and if the FO were to okay a deal like this, I doubt we'd get rid of the entire coaching staff because they've done such a good job. Harbaugh seems to have faith in Cam, so it will still be the same bad play calling. We'd basically be trading in a chance to win now for a chance to win in 3-4 seasons. And by that time, Ray will be gone, and maybe Ed Reed, so I don't know how good our defense will be.

This doesn't make sense. I would love to have Luck, but the main question would be will he be ready to start next year. Will we be ready to wait a few years for him to get up to speed? I don't think so. Flacco and Rice will be signed. I'm not so sure about Grubbs.

If Cam Newton can step right in, I have zero doubt Luck couldn't do the same.

I say trade Flacco and maybe our 1st rounder if that would get it done... Keep Rice by all means, we haven't even scratched the surface of what Rice is really capable of. Remember he is doing what he is doing in spite of Cam, a flaky OL, and Joe... Give him a Qb like Luck, and shore up that OL somehow...

Im sick of Flacco. It is HIS job to make his recievers look good, and it is obvious he cannot. He is a game manager, nothing more.

to me that is an archaic way of thinking about players these days. look at Cam Newton. that waiting years for a guy to develop in the nfl theory is starting to be played out. you draft these cats to play!

I wouldn't do it, Rice is too important. Luck has an amazing OL infront of him, will be interesting how he performs without one as good.

I know one thing, Flacco is surrounded by pro bowler's

McKinney- Pro Bowler
Gurod- Pro Bowler
Grubbs- Pro Bowler
Birk- Pro Bowler
Yanda- Pro Bowler
Oher- Pro Bowler (@ RT)
RIce - Pro Bowler
Leach- Pro Bowler
Bolden- Pro Bowler
Evans- Pro Bowler
R. Williams- Pro Bowler

Pluse several talented young speedy, athletic recievers
D. Reed (Good hands, speed, and shifty, but for some reason only allowed to play Special teams)
T. Smith (Looking like a baby Fitzgerald recently)
T. Doss (Who because of Cam hasn't even been given a chance but was KILLING it in pre season)
L. WIlliams (Speedy, Scrappy, Bmore Native)

Dickson and Pitta are athletic TE's and have looked great at times, with a smarter QB they would look as good as any in the NFL.

Imagine Luck with all this... Flacco is trade bait, he is wayyyyy to slow, how we not collectively see this?????????

Look at Cam Newton. He's playing average qb at best. He has more INTs than TDs. What's so special about him throwing for a lot of yards. Teams that give up a lot of points, like Carolina (30th in the league) are always in shoutouts and have to throw the ball. And more importantly, he has faced BAD PASSING DEFENSES. Any quarterback worth anything better at least put up Cam Newton's numbers against those defenses.

Even Brady and Manning struggled their first year. There is little hope that a rookie will lead us to the Super Bowl. There was a QB that has led us to the playoffs every year. His name is Joe. Don't give up on him yet.
