Michael Oher....this Is Getting Old

34 posts in this topic

I was excited to see his progression, but i havent, i know hes been moved around but every single game as soon as i see false start, i assume its #74 and it seems im always right, didnt they say he has 24 false starts in two years? How much longer do the coaches put up with is? My guess is we just dont have anyone to fill in for him....hopefully something changes.

It's becoming a big concern considering he had 1st round talent and was even listed as a top 10 prospect. Dumb penaltaies and inconsistent play has plagued him this season and last. It's a good thing they drafted Jah Reid who's a pure RT as his backup so they have good depth.

Has anyone noticed whether Oher has more of these penalties at away games or home games? Just curious, because the noise might be a factor. Not saying an excuse, just a factor.

Did they not say once that he is "too quick" off the snap for his own good? Like could it be he has too good of reflexes and gets penalized for it.

Im sorry , that excuse is old. Here is a thought, slow down, If he is that fast. It shouldnt be that hard to slow down a bit if his reflexes are that fast. If he is that fast he shouldnt need the jump on the Defender.

I thought he was average LT tackle for us last year. I was excited when we got McKinney because Oher would go back to RT this season like he was in his rookie year, but man is he getting abused almost every week.

I know I've seen clips that the team sent to the league last year showing how he was moving EXACTLY at the same time as the ball, and he was getting flagged. There were about 5 or six plays in that video. I wonder if that video is still floating around somewhere. I think it was discussed after our first win over Pitt last year. That aside, he jumps early far too often as well.

Getting Oher to jump offsides seems to be a part of the other teams game plan.

Why not? It sure is working.

It's not even the penalties, he gets beaten regularly. We've seen it in almost every game this year.
[/quote]
That's what I was thinking too. The penalties wouldn't be as much of a problem if he produced (see early jumpers Ed Reed and Todd Heap) but Oher is almost counter productive much of the time (ie [s]Oniel[/s] nevermind, it isn't nearly that bad).

Position switch or not, when you add in his performance last year (remember the Falcons), it's kind of been a rough season and half for him.

He's slowly working his way into "bust" status if the light bulb doesn't turn on soon.

This

Harbaugh needs to have a talk with him 'bout this

Oher needs to fix himself, and quick. I always supported him, but I can't do it anymore.

I know this sounds crazy, but I think Oher might be a better guard than he is a tackle. I think his skillset and build might be better suited at guard. I am very aware that he will not be playing guard for us though.

He just doesn't have "tackle feet" He could be a much better guard.

Obviously though, I would prefer for him to stay at RT and get better.

It's so ridiculous how he always has penalties in a game. Usually when I hear there's a penalty and we're on offense I automatically assume it's 74 and not even the defense and I find that sad. Maybe Harbaugh really needs to make Oher do laps. Maybe he should make him do 1 hour lap for every penalty he gets.

I seriously don't know what to do with him, and I am sure the coaches feel the same way. It's like he's just not getting it, and I find that really frustrating.

If you look back though it was a pretty weak draft class for OT. Even with all of his struggles Oher may still be the best of the bunch.

I agree, he has been a big disappointment for me thus far in the season. It's a shame because the guy was a beast in his rookie year, but he's not even there right now. Maybe Jah Reid will end up being a great pick, because if Oher doesn't improve I don't see him getting resigned.

Hes been going through a huge slump, and is nowhere near the mauler he was at RT his rookie year.

This makes Grubbs an even bigger priority in the off-season. Him and Yanda are the only guys I really like in this o-line.

I'm starting to notice that "tackle feet" may be as much a mental thing as a physical tools. Andrew Whitworth, Jake Long and David Stuart are examples of guys who aren't exactly the most light footed tackles but consistently blank pass rushers with good positioning and perfect technique. You could blame it on Ohers lack of size, but his measurables are comparable to Walter Jones, a player who could erase pass rushers as well as Ogden.

Ohers problems are mental.

Wally Williams let Oher have it this morning on The Fan... he really needs to wake up and start playing like a first round pick.

Maybe a change at OL Coach is warranted?
