Found Myself In A Contradiction - Do We Need An Elite Passer?

7 posts in this topic

Last night, after we lost, I found myself thinking that we need to make a change at quarterback because over the past several years I've felt that you can't win the Superbowl anymore without an elite passer (Brees, Rodgers). However, I just wrote this morning that other teams in the last decade have done it without an elite passer (Eli but he was crazy hot, young Brady but he's got the clutch gene, Roethlisberger but he's also got the clutch gene). I don't think Joe will ever become elite, but I do think he's capable of managing the game. I don't know if he's got the clutch gene. Thoughts? Can we win a Superbowl with Joe playing mistake free football, or do we seriously need to start drafting quarterbacks again and search for the guy who can become an elite passer.

I've felt all season that our team is going to go as far as our OL takes it. Our problem isn't Joe, Rice, the WR or TE.

The better question is are you prepared to go perhaps 10 years trying to find an 'elite' guy. When many times you need to post the worst record just to get a top 5 pick for the best chance of finding a guy.

Joe can get done. But you can't put a pile of poo in front of him and expect him to make Gravy.

The O-Line was like hot butter last night. The coaches made horrible play-calling with Cam Cameron's limited plays and the horrible (at least in my opinion) decision in kicking the onside kick with an elite defense like that. That shows low trust in a defense that tops the leagues in lowest amount of points allowed. What the hell?

So no, we don't need an elite passer. Joe Flacco is fine. He shouldn't have been in the interception situation in the first place, anyway. Coverage was air-tight as well and WRs didn't use their speed to get separation.

How many Super Bowls has mister perfect and elite QB Peyton Manning been to. The answer to that is two in his long career. How many has he won, the answer to that is one. You don't need an elite QB or even an elite team. You need a balanced team which we have for the most part.

Joe is a problem, but the coaching may have something to do with that. Cam being the leader of this horrendous offense, and Harbs needs to be held accountable also, seeing how he said he and Cam worked on fixing this all off season.
