Quick Question About Evans?

In my opinion, the book's still out on Torrey Smith. Given that he had no offseason to learn the offense I'd say he's gotten off to a pretty good start. If he ends the year with about 700 yards and close to 10 TDs, that's better than Mark Clayton ever produced TD wise and yardage wise except for 2006. Besides, nobody said Torrey Smith was here to be the number 1 receiver, that's Q's job. Torrey's already proven his worth by being a guy that can stretch the defense and prevent teams from stacking the box, at least against lesser opponents. And Rex was worreid enough about him to have Revis shadowing him. We gave Mark Cayton 5 seasons, let's at least give Torrey 2, especially 1 with an actual offseason, before writing him off.

Book is still out????????? What else can he do all he does is catch bombs. The guy is a rookie give him a break.

Torrey Smith ahd 1 good game, against the 0-6 Rams. He had 1 reception for 1 yd against the disorganized Jets. 3 recptions for 84 yd against the Texans. So, no I didn't come out of the left field with this. Maybe you should check the stats instead of highlights from 3 weeks ago...

Wow one good game that made history is one great game. Not to mention how he is stretching the defense for other players. Tell me where would we have been in the Houston game without Torrey's plays. You guys are just to much.

I hope people are joking or being sarcastic here but I don't find a lot of this very funny. Let alone being on the mark.

So let's see if I heard this right, Suggs, Reed, and Torrey are all under-performing and they should go?

What?

Besides I thought the topic was on Lee Evans. Who for the record, shouldn't have the book closed on him yet. He looked like way more than just a deep threat in the pre-season.

That's kind of what I meant. I guess what I should have said was "the jury is still out", I think that's the right cliche, but clearly you didn't read my entire post, otherwise I think you would have gotten my point. I actually compared what Torrey's done as a rookie with zero offseason to what Clayton accomplished in his entire Baltimore career, and went on to say that we need to give Torrey two or three seasons with an offseason before coming to a consensus on what he'll be at the pro level. I think that you should try and read an entire before you comment, it will help your comments make more sense.

Someone explain to me how you can have an opinion on Torrey Smith 5 games into a season with almost no offseason preparation. The lockout ended at the end of July, which means we had one month of practices and a preseason for teams to get ready. Players on new teams, including rookies, who would normally have 3 months work learn systems only had one month to do so. And I've never played the game myself, but I'm told that learning the receiver position is one of the toughest in football, and the transition from the college to the pro level is also among the toughest, which is why you see so many WR busts. Let's at least wait until the end of the season to form an opinion on Torrey. For years all I heard on this board was that Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams would turn it around and develop. They never did, but people still supported them. Now Torrey in his first season has a chance to break all of Clayton's career highs, and people call him a bust. I really don't get it.

Ok i partially agree. The part i don't agree with is the part where we have to give him more time to develop. He has clearly arrived. Anytime you draw Darrell Revis in coverage you have gotten the leagues attention.

What I mean by develop is learning our offense and learning opponents' defenses i.e. how a corner like Bryant McFadden v. a guy like Revis v. Joe Haden v. Leon Hall plays. And more importantly, how to beat those guys. Plus, I'm sure part of the reason drops occur with any player is that they're thinking about so much, the route they're running, defenders, etc, that it's hard to concentrate. When he's been in the league long enough that those things become second-nature, he will be a better receiver than he is now. I guess that's my point, that as well as he's playing now, he will get better, and that's where I see him being significantly different than receivers we have drafted in the past.

I think Ed Reed should go too! He didn't get any interceptions the last couple games. He is not the answer at Safety!!!!!

He's only had one good game this season which was against the steelers. I think he hasn't proven anything either hahaha
