2012 Baltimore Orioles Thread

I was reading that the MLB may expand the playoffs and go to 10 teams this season opposed to next season. The sad part is, even though they will expand the playoff teams, Orioles will still not make it. I hope I'm wrong, I would like to see the O's make the playoffs sometime soon.

The Orioles road to the WS started today with. A win against Tampa. As we speak, the Orioles are taking part in a potential World Series Preview matchup with the Pirates.

Matusz continued his record setting 2011 campaign by allowing 3 runs and 6 hits in 2 innings. Way to go, Brian!

All this after being in the "Best Shape of his life"... LOL. Hopefully the kid gets his MOJO back.... I said MOJO, not Mojito...

Dylan Bundy looked really good in his 1 inning of work yesterday :)

Chen had a great outing today v. the Twins... he should definitely get in the rotation.

Jon Heyman reporting that the Orioles may be in on Damon, but that nothing is imminent... I'd love to see him in here as DH and maybe get some time in LF when Nolan needs a rest.

What do you think of that guy Jai Miller? He didn't do well against Pitt but he had pretty good power numbers in one of the best pitchers parks in the minors.
I also think its time to move on from B-Rob. Andino has a load of potential and might as well let him develop.

Miller's interesting, and the way he's playing (4 RBI already this spring), I think he has a good shot at being one of our bench players.

I'm sure some of you may be following the team on the road this summer and this is a great way to meet the players.

Orioles are shopping closer Kevin Gregg and Mark Reynolds. Would love to see Gregg leave, but I love me some Sheriff of Swattingham.

I have no problem getting rid of Gregg. I thought Reynolds did a very good job last year at 1st and that seemed a better fit for him than 3rd.

just a thought here, but if they did trade Reynolds, do you think it means Machado is within a year of being called up? I know a big hold up in the Hardy contract talks was due to Machado coming soon, but could they eventually share the left side of the infield? I don't really see an immediate replacement for Reynolds in terms of position or power.

I can't remember who it was on the radio that was being interviewed but anyway here is the speculation...

Peter Angelos was on the committee to vet the candidates that were trying to buy the Dodgers. This person speculated that this was no accident by MLB. By Peter Angelos being on that committee, one would assume he has concrete candidates to sell the Orioles to when and if he chooses to do so. Also, seeing how the Dodgers sold for around $2 Billion, that's good news for the money hungry Angelos because that just drove the price up on MLB franchises across the board.

This kind of news is the stuff that gives me hope for the Orioles going forward because I truely believe they will not have a snowball's chance in Hell until there is new ownership. I mean the guy is 82 years old. One way or the other, the team will change hands in the near future...not that I'm wishing any ill will on Mr. Angelos. I just hope he sells soon.

As people have been pointing out... we need to stop saying how "we can't compete with the Yanks and Sox" because we can't even compete with the Rays and Jays!!

Here's to 5th place and possible spoiler role late in September.

Cheers!

I thought the Duquette was going to try to upgrade the pitching this offseason. Wada is the answer? Gimme a break. I'll watch games because some part of me deep down inside still loves the O's, but I have much less expectations for this season than even last year. What is there to look forward to? Further Mismanagement? Refusal to spend money on star players like Wieters or Jones? Failure to acquire even 1 quality pitcher?

I hope everyone is excited for your 2012 Opening Day starter, Jake Arrieta!
Apparently he was ranked #30 (last) on a list of all the OD starters... not good!
