All QB's are better with good field position.  Reed led the league last year (6th as a team), he just happened to get hurt.  As of now, we're 8th in the league for kick returns and 15 for punt returns.

I think D.Reed is are guy , when he gets healthy that is. I dont want to see Ed Reed back there at all, one reason he is too valuable , the second, well i dont think he protects the ball as well as others.

Good luck with finding someone remotely close to as good as Devin Hester.

If Troy Smith was still here he could do it.

We have KR down with Reed. PR is a little tricky because of how big a part of the D Webb has become but no way are we getting a guy who is as good at returning punts as Hester.

I agree Devin Hester is a once in a generation level returner, but David Reed is quite good and led the nfl in return average last year. When he's healthy D Reed is plenty good and I think is a top 10 returner.

David Reed will be back and he's pretty darned good at returning kicks. He's not as good as Hester but he's as good as most. McCann is servicable, Webb can do punt returns well, and I think Laquan will eventually be a good returner.

I guess hester has good vision...but blocking plays a huge role & I like to see hester do it on another team to give a true assessment.

I think a guy like Devin Hester would be a real detriment to the team.

But seriously, obviously our team would be better with Devin Hester returning punts and kicks. The guy is closing in on the record for return TDs of any kind and will probably get above 20 by the end of his career, if not the end of this season. We all know having a star returner would make the team better. But the issue is that guys who are elite are, definitionally, few and far between. When David Reed comes back he's a more than capable KR. Much as I hate to see Ed Reed out there fielding punts, I'd have to say he's our best option there right now.

Thinking sarcasm in response to my post. I need to see some highlights cuz I dunno how many times he made something out of nothing like a Dante hall. Eveytime I seen hester return he was just following blocks...no jukes, stuttetsteps, running to other side of field or stiff arms.

I almost wonder if we are just struggling in blocking for our kick returners. We have had LaQuan, McCann, and David Reed back returning kickoffs, and I can only think of one good return that Reed had this season. LaQuan seems to be a decent returner, but he has struggled, and McCann was very good in Dallas, but he wasn't anything special against the Texans. If David Reed comes back and struggles returning kicks, we will know the problem.

I wanted to add that I'm not so sure it's the returner that's our problem. The blocking a lot of the time has been suspect at best, and at that point it doesn't really matter who's returning. It's gonna be hard to break out of a 4 man gang tackle.
