Jags Gonna' Remove Tarps?

43 posts in this topic

We all know how Ravens fans traveled last year. Especially to Carolina. My question is, is Jacksonville going to be taking the tarps off the 15 some thousand seats?

Some fans on the sun forum are saying according to stub hub they will still be covered up for the MNF game. that is totally sad.

The Jags have to make a decision at the beginning of each year exactly what seats they want opened and closed for the WHOLE year.

They choose to tarp those off so they dont count toward their blackouts.

The jags have not been blacked out this year, which is why the tarps exist

I live in Jax and its pathetic, but the tarps are a decision before the season and have to be up for every game.

And regardless of how many ravens fans come you will be able to get tickets. I got my tickets single game in really good seats for 80 bucks each

Looking back at the expansion.. Jacksonville was the worst city to pick. Shoulda gone to St. Louis

and the NFL is losing money because of it.

Because they are entitled to 8 home games like every other team in the league? At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if they are tarping the stadium or not. They are still averaging about 1000 people less per game than Pittsburgh gets. Sure, if Pittsburgh has a 70,000 seat stadium they'd fill it, but that's not the case.

If Jacksonville was selling 40,000 tickets like the Bungles then it would be a concern, but they're not. For a terrible professional sports state, and a team that's never been a contender in their history. Selling 60,000 seats is a good accomplishment. But that doesn't matter, we're gonna walk in their Monday night and beat the hell out of 'em.

Moving a team to Canada would put more people in the stands than Jacksonville. Also, it would be cool if Vegas had a team lol

Vikings fans are loyal thats why they will stay in Minnesota and Jags will be going to LA in a couple of years.

Oakland or San Diego is going to LA... book it.

Didn't the Jaguars get a team before Art Model moved the Browns to Baltimore and they became the Ravens, and weren't the Rams already in St. Louis at the time the Jags got a team?

I feel bad for the Jag fans. The legitimate ones get a bad wrap because it's not that solid of a fan base and the Jags have never really done anything post-season. Plus, it's very possible that the franchise could be moved in the next several years. Regardless, it is sad how so many seats are tarped off. It's also pretty sad how cheap tickets are for a MNF game, and for good seats, too! If gas down to Jacksonville wasn't so expensive, I'd get tickets and go. The Cincinnati and Cleveland road games are ridiculously cheap too.

Jacksonville does have one of the larger stadiums in the league, so they are still selling about as many tickets as an average team. However, considering the market size they clearly expected with a stadium that large it's kind of sad the percentage they're filling. I guess it's tough to do when you're team is a perennial disappointment.

St. Louis was practically empty but for Ravens fans at the end of that game.

The Jags get a bad rap. They have a huge stadium to satisfy the FL/GA Game and the Gator bowl. Plus they are competing with Florida, Florida St and Georgia which all bring in over 100,000 each home game. But if you look at the numbers last year they averaged only 51 people less than Pittsburgh and more people than 8 other teams including Chicago, Arizona and Minnesota. When you consider a number of people in the Jax area have already driven over 2 hours for one game on saturday, its going to be hard to get 80,000 people to go to another on sunday. With that said hope to see you all Monday Night!

After Suggs and Ngata get done pancakeing Gabbert , they'll be able to use him as an extra seat tarp.

What's a black out exactly?
[/quote]
In the most basic terms, if the home team doesn't sell enough tickets to the game, the game is not broadcast on local TV, with the logic being that there's not enough interest for the game to be shown on TV in the home team's market. This is a tactic used by most professional sports leagues to encourage regular attendance at home games.

Anyone that suggest the Jags need to move are sick and if it on this board its even worst dont forget the mayflower trucks and the years with out a team.

Im a ravens fan but do not wish a team moving to any city. And as someone who lives in Jax the economy here was bad before and i wouldnt want to see what happens if the Jags leave

End of the day the NFL is a business. The commissioner does whats in the best interest of his league and the 32 owners he represents. If you can't fill the seats, if you can't get the television ratings, there will always be talk of a teams relocation. Especially since there are 75,000 seat state of the art stadiums waiting to built in Los Angeles with an unlimited supply of corporate dollars..

If you're in the commissioners shoes, it's a no brainer. Although, Minnesota does seem more likely at this point because their lease is done next year and don't have a deal in place for a new facility.

Two teams could possibly move to LA an AFC team like the Jags, Raiders or Chargers and the Vikings. The Rose Bowl would be a temporary home for a LA team until they build a new stadium.

What is unfair though is that it seems that the media is only beating the "Jags to L.A. drum", when there are other teams who have more trouble selling out than Jax does. i.e. Dolphins, Bengals, Raiders

Plus I do not know of one team that has moved b/c of attendence. It has always been the about the stadium deal. Examples; Colts, Raiders (twice), Rams, Cards, Titans, and yes the Ravens.

I think you need to remember the Mayflower trucks. There's a difference between a team relocating, and a team being stolen in the dead of the night.
