Batman: Arkham City

29 posts in this topic

Anybody picking up Batman: Arkham City today? Game Informer gave it a PERFECT 10/10, and they rarely, if ever, throw out a perfect score. Numerous others have given it a perfect score, including Electronic Gaming Monthly, GamePro, Official Xbox and Playstation Magazine, and X-Play. So i figured i'd pick it up. Hopefully its as good as everyone says!

Picked it up at the midnight release last night.

In the first 15 minutes alone, the game lived up to the hype. My fear was that Rocksteady would be complacent and basically make the same game. Those fears were washed away immediately during the opening credit sequence.

I highly recommend that you take advantage of the Catwoman DLC pack before you start the game, as her missions are built seamlessly into the main story. In fact, without spoiling too much, you get to play a quick segment as her in the early part of the game. It's amazing how they managed to make her feel like a different character when controlling her, and you get a better appreciation as to why she's one of Batman's best frenemies.

Meh. I want to buy it because I loved Arkham Asylum but It's just not on my list of the many games that I want right now(Uncharted, Skyrim, Dark Souls). I'll pick it up in a couple of months.

If you loved Arkham Asylum, then Arkham City is a must-play. There's no way around it. Even after having slept on it and waking up today to play some more, I've realized that this game could easily take Game of the Year honors from most publications and awards shows.

It's that good.

Does the Catwoman DLC code come free with every copy of the game or is it a part of a Limited Edition version?

It's not out until Friday here but I think I'll be getting it day one. I loved Arkham Asylum.

Free with every copy of the game, I believe, at least in the States.

UGH! Worst time to be at work for 10 hours, and have the Xbox in the shop... and refuse to buy it on playstation. I guess I'll be buying another Xbox today, if it's as good as it's made out to be.

It seems like so many good games are being released this year compared to years past. They are finally starting to really get into developing on the next gen systems.

You're not really missing anything without Catwoman, but I believe you can use the DLC mid-game. That said, if you want to replay the parts with her in it, there's a separate section on the main menu where you can play those chapters individually.

Though I recommend that you play the main story with her DLC enabled, you don't miss out on anything without her. It just enhances the narrative a little.

Arkham City is an excellent game. Not only is it better than Asylum, it very nearly dominates it if possible. It could very easily take Game of the Year awards home come go-time.

Game's fantastic. I'm not sure I like the ending, depending on if I interpreted it "correctly" or not, but I'm not going to spoil anything.

I'd say surefire GOTY...but there's such stiff competition this year. As amazing as this game is I don't see how anything is going to beat out Skyrim right now.

But yeah, I loved Arkham Asylum, and I'm a huge Batnut, but I had some trepidation before I started playing...but this game is absolutely amazing. I have a few minor gripes but nothing big.

I feel as if Arkham City does a much better job of providing incentive to replay the game multiple times.

While Arkham Asylum had a lot of unlockable content, it pales in comparison to Arkham City and all of its secrets. Not only that, but it's much easier to track your progress in this game than in its predecessor.

It's a good sign when a game is so good that you actually think about playing it when you're doing other things.

For sure. This is the first time in ages that when I go to sleep, I see bits of the game when I close my eyes. Deserving of a 9.75/10 on my scale. The voicework for Catwoman got a bit under my skin in the first encounter. It's like, okay, we get it. You are a woman that has this cat obsession thing. Just please, stop with the cat puns!

Other than that excellent experience, haha. New game plus is almost a surefire way to win my heart in a game.

So... how long would you say this game is? Barring all of the sidequests, that is. I swear I've only been playing for a few hours and I'm already damn close to the end. I believe I'm "two hours to Protocol 10".

Well, I was about 8 hours in. I finished the main story, 50% Riddler puzzles, got all side quests with the exception of "Random Acts of Violence", and havent even touched the challenge maps.

But, my temporary Xbox froze mid save, leading to corrupted save file, and loss of ALL progress. This happened about a week ago, and I have been too mad about that to start up since.

I would get it, but I'm getting Uncharted 3 which got a 10/10 at ign. I am a huge Uncharted fan. I'm going to be broke this holiday season between BF3, Uncharted 3, and Skyrim.

I know I might be in the minority but I actually prefer AA to AC. AC improves upon combat and gadgetry but the story and plot felt rushed. AA's story was better paced and the Joker was better developed to be the main villain in AA and he even outclasses Hugo Strange as far as being one of the main villains in AC. One of the main gripes I had with AA was that no villain is ever developed to actually pose a threat to Batman other than the Joker. This occurs even more in AC. They are all just thrown in there as obstacles more than anything which takes away from the plot because there is too much going on. It also doesn't help that the ending is predictable and that the final boss was incredibly easy.

The game was good but I just felt AA was slightly better as far as the storyline which is quite the deal breaker for me.

I thought in terms of gameplay AC was definitely better.

But it was weird to see them throw out just about every villain in Batman. Guys like Two-Face, and Ra's Al Ghul are way too big to have such minor roles.

Agreed 100%. AC improved on every aspect as far as combat and gameplay. But as far as the plot and storyline, I feel like AA was more centered while AC was just mashed together and there was too much going on. They threw villains randomly at you in AA too but they did it even more in AC with even bigger characters such as Two-Face, Ra's Al Ghul, Freeze, and even Hugo Strange(even though he was pushed to be the main villain along with Joker). They all had surprisingly minor roles and were nothing more than mere obstacles which took away from the plot for me because everything just seemed so mashed together.

In my opinion, I think the Batman game series would improve significantly if they actually developed some of the villains they throw at you. It feels too good to play as Batman in these games but I think they could do so much more with the plot.
