Revis: Is He Not Allowed To Be Flagged?

44 posts in this topic

I listen to Mike everyday and I just listened to this interview...couple things u need to know about before u judge what happened..

1. The Jets and Mike have a strained relationship...Jets in recent years haven't allowed players to even go on the show...Mike is continually destroying Rex...and seems to have a Giants>>Jets bias which could've been ignored 4 or 5 years ago but not since the Jets organization feel they are now NY top dogs

2. Mike before the interview talks about how Revis is the only Jet player that may like him..

3. The interview gets very awkward at first when the p.I. gets brought up(mike felt it was p.I.,Revis didnt) but they manage to move pass that and work in some other questions...Mike was being fair and even told Revis he's the best defensive player in the NFL..however when the topic of how the rules have changed for CBs in the NFL..mike threw in a quick jab about the p.I. again calling it a mugging and Revis goes back on the defense saying it wasn't , I'm the football player your not, and then it just got really awkward...I'm sure it will be on YouTube

It's only right to say that Revis is correct...it was not a P.I., Marshall running full speed lost footing and starts to stumble right into the chest of Revis...were Revis grabs him out of basic instinct the way anyone would...as Revis sees the ball is in the air on the way right to him..he kinda gives Marshall the "u can continue falling" throw and goes get the ball..

I agree with you. In fact, I wasn't even sure Revis grabbed him at all.

You think Revis is the only DB to get away with holding/contact here and there? Gimme a break. It's not "cheating" either. Cheating is taking roids, HGH, spying on the other team, etc.
Commiting a penalty is cheating. That's why there are penalties for it. Im not saying some of them are harder to avoid or that accidents happen, but knowingly commiting a penalty is against the rules and getting away with it gives you an unfair advantage. That's cheating.

And no, he's not the only one who gets away with it. But he gets away with it far too often then he should and blatantly does things that just about any other DB would get flagged for.

The Jets whole team, not just Revis, make a lot of contact with receivers down field. Revis is so obvious at it though. He even gets away with it in the end zone.

I'm with you, man. It's true in every sport though: the superstars get the calls and the benefit of the doubt.

Nothing is worse than the NBA. I'm a Raptors fan, we haven't had a superstar since Carter. I don't even remember what it's like to have a player on your team consistently get calls in their favour. It's brutal lol.

Completely disagree.

Cheating doesn't make you great. He's talented, but he'd quite clearly be a worse player without his own herd of zebras.
I wouldn't call that "cheating." There is holding on almost every single offensive lineman on every snap. Does that mean every offensive linemen is now a cheater and deserves a suspension? If you don't get called you're doing it right. If you're an aggressive, press man to man corner like Revis, you're going to get some favourable calls. If you play in that soft cover-2 scheme where you line up off the ball and grab a little bit of jersey you're going to get called more often than not.

Committing a penalty is not "cheating." The rule is not that you aren't allowed to hold or jump offsides or commit a false start. The rule is that if you do these things, you will be flagged.

Lets not get carried away, there was AT LEAST contact beyond 5 yards that he committed, so if not PI then at least illegal contact for the final stanza of that play.

double take... Wait what???? U got to be kidding right? His natural reaction would be to grab like physically grab him? And no marshalli never saw marshall stumble and fall into the chest of revis..

Revis flat out grabbed the jersey just like he did on torrey. Soo obvious

There was contact, yes. But when I last saw it, I remember looking specifically at Revis' hands, and all I really saw was him putting them on Marhsall. But Marshall was falling into Revis all on his own. If anything, that looks more like offensive PI.

Hands or not it can still be called illegal contact and is a penalty. And Marshall obviously did not impede Revis's right to the ball so it is kind of hard to call it that.

But players get away with hands downfield all the time. Not just Revis, I've seen it with a lot of different players. What happened was that Marshall fell into Revis and was more of a driving force on the play than Revis was, easily. It looked like Revis used his hands for leverage to keep himself upright. Then he just sidestepped Marshall when he saw the ball and jumped right in front of it for the pick.

Well I guess we just saw 2 different things out of that. I though it should have at least been an illegal contact penalty.

And yes some guys get away with it but he is by far the worst. Like when Torrey had him beat and he had to grab him but it did not get called. He is still great but he gets a lot of love from the Refs.

I mean I'm not saying Marshall pushed off intentionally, but he was clearly driving into Revis, intentionally or not. If it were me, I would not have called offensive PI because he seemed to have just lost his footing. But I thought it was closer to that than to defensive PI.

Speaking of that pass interference non-call, Revis had a breakdown talking about it to Mike Francesa:
