Thats flawed logic, as we'll have no protection in for Flacco.

Perfect example of building strong chemistry between Joe and his receivers! I was really glad to see Q have a constructive games as a #1 receiver, and that was even without a TD. Also impressed with T. Smith...definitely not a one-hit wonder!

When it works against the Steelers, it has nothing to do with more time for the QB (as 4/5 wide is not designed to give more time). Its more the fault of the porous secondary of the Steelers. Definitely not due to more time... 4/5 wide is setup for quick strikes, slants, crossing patterns etc for that very reason. Limited protection, in shotgun and 3 step drop (if any)!

Boldin has been playing well for us this season. I like how Michael Irvin said he makes plays ALL over the field. Not a lot of guys can run around inside and hang on to all those receptions. Furthermore, you don't see a lot of receivers his size running around inside.

If you think of all the classic "slot" guys around the league, then who do you think of? D Mase comes to my mind pretty quickly, along with Wes Welker, Hines Ward, and some lesser known players like Eddie Royal, and Harry Douglas. All of those players have smaller body types, and are "quick twitch" kind of players. Yet to have someone who could play line backer running around like that is impressive.

It's sort of like lining up 3 tight ends to me.

Anyways, It's almost scary to think he is just getting started!

This. Five-wide leaves nothing but the O-line in for protection. It works against the Steelers, but that has no connection with it buying the QB any more time.

I 100% agree. Boldin would be fantastic working out of the slot, with Lee and Torrey out wide. Hopefully we'll see that happen when Lee returns from the injury.

I can't wait til our team gets healthy and are able to use that package

I am surprised people are shocked, or did not expect this. Lat year Boldin was running deep routes and that is not his bag, he needs someone who can stretch the field to open it up. It was not so much he had a great game, it was he was finally used the right way.

All this is setting up well for Boldin to have a really good year. The deep game is there and teams are going to have to respect it. Boldin is even showing that he can get deep. But the net result is more space underneath. Teams will look at film and start to see that they have to respect the speed. It can open up option routes from the slot and from the TE position. It opens a lot of things for Boldin and the TEs. Then when teams try to go back and clamp down on that, you throw it over the top. This season is going to be fun.

Keep doing your thing over there. I'm on my way back this summer. I'm glad you are getting a chance to keep up with the Ravens.

Really? All I think of with D Mase is that 15 yard comeback outside the numbers. But definitely Wes Welker who is arguably the greatest slot receiver of all time.

i don´t want to taky anything away from welker but he has had one of the best if not the best qb of all times throwing the ball to him. that is a huge plus. he might be a great receiver. but he is in a system that he fits in perfectly....
