Lee Evans Out Vs Texans
Even if Torrey has a good season from here on, I still wouldn't feel comfortable with such a young group of WRs/TEs in the playoffs. Evans would make a would of difference.
He would make a difference, but has he ever been in the playoffs?

I hope he's back by week 9, and at the latest by the post-season. Ankle injuries take a long time to truly recover. The more you play on a bad ankle, the worse it gets. Because of the nature of the injury, he may not be truly 100% for the rest of the season.

Does anyone know if its a sprain or not?

Its not the same injury. He was healthy when traded.
I beg to differ. It was his left ankle in Buffalo and it is his left ankle now. And if you recall, he was wearing the boot on his left foot/ankle after practices in camp. When reporters asked him about the boot he said, "Oh it's nothing, I always wear this....."

Same injury, he just aggravated it in the Tenn. game.

I said before in these forums that the Evans trade sounded too good to be true .

I suspected that ankle problems from last year were more persistent then
The Ravens thought .

The Bills got the better of this deal . Why would they give up a burner
For a 4th rounder ?? it's called damaged goods.

Now we know !

I'd be very surprised if Evans contributes much this year.

I'd have to agree with this. The Bill's knew it and Ozzie was fooled. What this team needs are new doctors because the ones we have sure aren't doing well with giving physicals to these players.

And Carr is out again with Hamstring issues? I know running backs who had the same kind of injuries and were back in just two weeks. Emmit Smith is one that comes to mind.

I'm not sure this was the case. I think the FO and docs knew about the injury and took a calculated risk that he would be able to rehab the ankle prior to the start of the season. I don't fault them. They do well with most.

The playoff experience thing has always been overrated imo.

The GB Packers just won with a lot of players with little to no playoff experience, and beat a team with double their experience in Pittsburgh. Just like NO did against Indy the previous year.

If it was something serious with Evans we would have seen a move by now.
Don't you think they would IR him to give way for another starter to be put on the roster?
I don't think the Ravens are messing around.
Jimmy Smith comes to mind, is he still injured or being rested and given more time to learn the game?
This is a different type of season, and different strategies could be used to gain the upper hand.

Torrey Smith looks good, so give him the start and some game time, no need to rush Evans back.
I say that because we should beat the Texans, the game hasn't been played yet, but they don't match up to us, and unless the coaches wrongly gameplan this sunday, it shouldn't be an issue.

Imagine if Smith and Evans are on the field together at some point this season. The Ravens O would be a completely new team, and other teams would have no idea what to expect.
With the short preseason, the Ravens still need to see what they have, while not losing games. We have a lot of young talent at WR, we just need to see who can do what and what type of team to build for the post season.

me thinks coaches are comfortable with young receivers so the want to evaluate and let Lee get nice and strong for the long haul of the second half of the season good move let him rest and see what potential some of these youngens have

He didnt aggravate in the Tenn game, he hasnt been 100% all season. The injury occurred in the preseason. I couldnt find the source online, but I am fairly certain that last year's injury was to the right ankle, this injury is to his left. You can see the injury happen here at about 1:20. His left ankle clearly gets caught underneath him because of the horse-collar tackle. He hasnt been the same since. On further review I found the play where he hurt his ankle last year. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81cd4f06/article/bills-wr-evans-browns-lb-david-bowens-injured-sunday
It was the left ankle, so it is actually very likely that he re-injured it. That said he was not hurt when we first got him, he was practicing fine until after the 3rd PS game he hit the injury report, likely due to re-aggravating it. Playing week 1 and 2 certainly didnt help it heal.

Hey you guys - lee Evans caught a touchdown pass in preseason and thats it-he is not the second coming. Buffalo got rid of him for a reason-lets stop hoping for miracles from him or any other receiver-we have to have a QB who can CONSISTENTLY get our receivers the football. Anybody have any ideas?

You don't know that. Also, even if Evans doesn't pan out it was a 4th rounder given up for him, not a 1st,2nd, or even 3rd round so to try to say that we lost on the deal is crazy.

Idk. I think we need WRs that consistently get open. But thats just my opinion.

I was concerned about not having Evans on the field for a while.. but after what I've been seeing from Torrey, I really don't care if Evans plays anymore.

I'm fine with Torrey starting but we don't really have a 3rd WR without Evans. We need him back to take our offense to the next level. Either that or one of the other WR's has to step up.

Another rookie needs to step up then. Like I've said before, Evans has been dealing with this nagging injury for nearly a year and as much as I'd love for him to be on the field, you just can't rely on someone like that to be there with any consistency.
