Steelers Rookie Rb Talks Some Trash...

27 posts in this topic
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Rashard Mendenhall has been fairly subdued in front of the media this week, but a little trash-talking among friends made its way to division rival Baltimore.

Not a good thing.
The first-round pick from Illinois, whose first career start will come against the Ravens on "Monday Night Football," recently sent a text message to friend and Ravens rookie tailback Ray Rice saying he's going to have a big game against the NFL's top-ranked defense.

Obviously, Rice, who often praises the Ravens' defense as "scary," passed the text message along to his teammates, who are not taking Mendenhall's proclamation lightly.

"He said later that he was just joking, but it's too late,'' Ravens linebacker Bart Scott said. "Thanks for the bulletin-board material, rookie."

A tailback having a big game against Baltimore, by the way, is a rarity.

The Ravens haven't allowed a 100-yard rusher in 21 straight games, the longest active streak in the league. Baltimore has given up an average of just 161.5 yards through its first two games, 72.5 fewer than the league's No. 2 unit -- which belongs to Pittsburgh (234.0). The Ravens have had a top-10 defense in each of the past five seasons.
LOL.

Thanks, Mr. Mendenhall. We'll see how you feel after you meet Mr. Lewis, Mr. Scott, Mr. Johnson, and Mr. Suggs at the bottom of a pile. ;)

Hmmm...I think I'll stop with the (good-natured) smack for right now. It might get ugly, especially if a Steelers fan starts trolling...lol.

Surprisingly it's Friday, with no Trolls.

The funniest thing about the whole thing is that Mendenhall wussed out when asked about it. "my phone dropped and sent my text before I added 'just joking'". What is he a politician? I can't recall one time when I sent a text, dropped my phone and sent it by accident.

Either way he is weak for backing out and an idiot for sending it.
I heard Mendenhall tried to write more on his text explaining that it was just a joke, but he fumbled his phone before he could complete it.
LOL, That was posted under the article on ESPN's site. Either way he isn't going to run against us.

If Mendenhall was smart he would pretend to be injured like Parker, and avoid taking a bigger hit to his YPC and fumbles. Nothing behind that o-line is going to look pretty come gameday.

I saw this earlier. Guess all that time in school and the kid never learned to do his homework. I cant imagine why any r/b let alone a rookie would make that kind of comment about the Ravens defense. Look at the numbers, they speak for themself.

Well there has not beeb a lot of smack talk for some reason! I know the Ravens are trying to stay focused on 3-0 and not smack talk but this is enough for me. bring it on rookie, lets do this! Meet the Raven's D in the hole and make sure you have the ball taped to your hand son! I can not wait until Monday!!!! :o :o

oh god... i don't know how to spell his name correctly but myrel hodge from Espn said something along the lines of he wouldnt be suprized to see mendenhall have over 100 yards...... can someone explain to me how he comes to this prediction? last time i checked we havent let a 100 yd rusher in 21 straight games, on top of that he is a rookie who has slippery fingers.?>?>?

Mendenhall would be smart to close his mouth and keep on playing no matter who is he is running against. That is true of everybody.

His stats against the RAVENS may or may not be what everybody wishes, but at least he could be admired for showing up for the fight.

I'll predict he'll get about 33 yards all game. Just because ray and company are gonna make him eat his words and our D-Line is gonna be shoveing their lineman back into Mendenhall. can anyone say...concussion?

absolutely merril hodge is going to say that. He is the biggest Steelers apologist ever. He did play for them and he loves them. He hosted their Titletown, USA bit for espn and ive even heard the other analysts laugh at him when he picks the steelers for a game they prob. won't win. I cannot stand him. He needs to put down the crystal meth if he thinks Fumblina is going to get over 100

Hodge is a Steelers fan. He might even have played for them at one point.
