NBA Lockout

I wonder how accurate NBA2K12 will be on "What could have been" since I don't think we're getting even a reduced season at this rate.
I don't know, but maybe they could change up the first year to equal how many games will be played.

Sounds like more games will be cancelled. Even though it seemed things were coming together, things fell apart. The Owners proposed a 50-50 split but the players do not want that and prefer a 52-48 split favoring the players. Union Executive Billy Hunter said that he could not go to the players and sell them on the 50-50 split, and that "we've got to have some money."

Sounds like the Players are holding this up and want more money.... so there you go players, you will now become the most hated for holding this up.

Well if you want to know the real reason there is a holdout, blame the one lawyer who tried killing the NFL this season, and how the NBA Players picked him is beyond me. Jeffery Kessler, that's the right the same lawyer who when not involved in the talks during the NFL Lockout would see progress made but with him everything blows up, is now trying to do the exact same stunt with the NBA Lockout.

Yet all we hear is how the talks between the Players and Owners of the NBA are going nowhere, the exact thing we heard when Kessler would pull his weight around during the NFL Lockout. It seems Kessler might finally be able to kill off a sports season, something he couldn't accomplish with the NFL but very well could do with the NBA.

I think this presents a big opportunity for other sports such as NCAA basketball, hockey, and even UFC. I know a hockey fan who was cheering for the NFL lockout to get more fans into NHL because I know I would need something else to watch if my favorite sport was cancelled for a year.

The Owners have proposed an offer that is being considered by the Players, and if the players accept the season would be cut down to 72 Games and the season would begin on Dec 15th.

Games Through Dec 15th have been cancelled. The Players have filed 2 Anti-Trust Suits against the Owners.

Well with that said.... Goodbye 2011-2012 NBA Season. There is no way they will play this season with the players filing 2 suits against the owners.

Man, February to June will be pretty empty in terms of sports....
Well not really. You got the NFL Scouting Combine, NFL Free Agency in March, Baseball starts back up in April, and the NFL Draft at the end of April!

So the NFL has that part of the calender covered!

But you're not actually watching any sports. Those are just offseason things. And Baseball.

Baseball and Hockey are good and all, but it's not the same. I can't/won't watch every single Baseball game. I couldn't even force myself to watch a lot of hockey games, even when I was really into the Mighty Ducks as a child.

I CAN watch every basketball game that's on that evening. Most days you'd get 2 maybe 3 NBA games back-to-back(-to-back).

Oh, the Wizards lost again. Oh! Thunder's game next! Clippers on after!? Thoroughly entertained. Every night.

Sorry, but MLB and NHL can't replace that.

I'm betting on no season as well. Didn't the last lockout end up cutting them back to 50 games?

Also, NHL will definitely get a deal done because enough owners and players remember how bad they were hurt by the last lockout.
I have to think along your lines here, friend - I have the distinct feeling that we may see no NBA at all; those who want pro basketball of any stripe may have to accept the D-League, and also try the smaller, independent pro circuits, as well as consider the action overseas.

I do agree with you in regard to the NHL - there are enough people in the league, both players and owners, who recall that there was no Stanley Cup Final in 2005, and they don't want to take a chance of that happening ever again.

Definitely. They were hurting pretty badly the next season. One of my friends who was a Caps season ticket holder at the time had given up her seats for the 2006 season because she was switching jobs and couldn't afford them when the payment was due. She got quite a few phone calls from the front office saying "Please come back, don't be mad at us over the lockout."

The NBA should learn from MLB and the NHL....It will take a long time to recover and when it is all about player/union greed the fan is not very forgiving i know i was not.

I wonder if there will be patch that removes Year 1 from the game to simulate the Lockout lol.

Not Before April is correct, and that's how I treat MLB. I may watch the first month or two of Orioles Baseball and regardless winning or losing but then I won't watch until it's playoff time.

The NFL is different because the majority of games are played on Sunday and the season is over before you can blink..the other major sports seem to go on forever..with MLB if you miss a game there is always another one the next day.

I would pass up free tickets to ten NBA games just to be able to go to one Duke/Maryland game.

Owners are owners and players are employees...in the real world a worker does not go to the owner of a company and demand a split of the profits...Oh my.. the arrogance of it it all.

The sad part is, the NBA had the most momentum since the MJ days. IMO, they passed MLB as the 2nd most popular sport in the country. Whether you like the Heat or not, there is no denying that they have made the NBA that much more interesting. And almost every major market was competitive last year.

All that momentum has been flushed down toilet, and will take a long time to return to form.

The Lockout is over!

Can't wait for some basketball.
Yeah I can't believe it. I actually thought Jeffery Kessler was going to get his wish and actually kill off a major sports season with this NBA Lockout but low and behold, the players removed him from the talks and they reach an agreement. Just like the NFL Lockout, get the lawyers out and you'll get some progress, but if you put them back in, back to the drawing board.

Details on how the Season will go:

- Free Agency & Training Camps will start Dec 9th

- The Season will only be 66 games beginning on Dec 25th with three games, Celtics vs Knicks, Heat vs Mavericks, and Bulls vs Lakers.

- Terms included a 50-50 split of the Revenue between Players/Owners.

- The League needs 15 votes from the Owners, Players have to Reform the Union as they disbanded before they can vote.

No word on how long the Agreement is for.
