Jay Cutler Is The Most Underrated QB In The NFL

33 posts in this topic

As Ravens fans, we complain about the line, but there is no line in the league worse than Chicago's. Watching this Detroit game, I honestly wonder how Cutler is still standing.

This is a guy who literally has no weapons on offense outside of Hester and Forte. Give him just a decent line and he'd light it up. It's crazy how the media gets on him about his "toughness." I forgot who it was who said it, but it's true, the media decides who they like from the very beginning. The Matty Ices, the Bradfords, the Freemans were given passes from the start. The guys like Cutler, Flacco, McNabb, etc will always be criticized.

Well, I don't think the NFL condones guns and knives! ;)

Whats the excuse for the horrible amount of INT's, though? He throws a ton!
[/quote]
Yeah, he's definitely Jay Favre sometimes. But I blame that on the fact that he usually has to release the ball within a half a second. And he has to drop back really far when he throws because of that line, which surely doesn't help his accuracy.

I wouldn't say he is underrated. He is very good with making throws on the run. But along with his positives, he makes very bad reads sometimes and he also likes to force balls.

But with that being said, I've always kinda liked him. He always gets a bad rap. Plus the bears do nothing to address their line and allow Cutler to get hit like crazy. Plus the O system they employ isn't exactly great with poor O-Line play.

And will the Bears get him some REAL weapons at WR.

If Cutler had a Offensive Line, a # 1 Receiver, a Good Catch Passing TE, Cutler would be a great QB.

The main nit picky problem I see with his play is when he throws off his back foot and sometimes overshoots wide open targets 10 or 15 yards downfield. He throws off that back foot a lot and sometimes he gets away with it.

He's definitely mistreated by fans and media though. A lot of times, analysts will blame Cutler for holding onto the ball too long, but I think they over do that so much.

Exactly, i don't seem to understand why they would trade Greg Olson away. and they never seem to go after any WRs.

He can swap place with Stafford.....

I don't think Stafford is that good of a QB; Megatron can even make Boller look good.....

I agree, I think Stafford is highly overrated. He was not that impressive tonight, his stat line is deceiving.

But he's another "chosen one" by the media, so he'll get all the credit for Megatron's and Best's work.

I think your right. A QB's success is not only dependent on his talent but the position he is in to succeed. Give him and O-line and more weapons and he has the talent to light it up.

That's probably true, Johnson was putting up 1000 yard seasons when they had nobody at QB.

I don't like Cutler, he doesn't play smart football. He forces way too many throws and throws way to many interceptions to be on my list of good QBs. Still, he's the best QB Chicago has ever had.

How's he highly overrated? I haven't seen anyone put him in the same light as a Matt Ryan, or anywhere near that. I also don't see how Best is in conversation for over-inflating Stafford's numbers, given that he just had 4 catches for 9 yards tonight. Take away Best's most productive receiving game against the Vikings, and Stafford still would've thrown for over 300 yards. Calvin Johnson is probably the most gifted WR in the NFL, and in my mind, a Top 2 WR. But it's not as if Tom Brady doesn't have Wes Welker, or Aaron Rodgers have Greg Jennings, etc. I'm not here to tell you that Stafford will continue playing at this level, because I can't. But all I know is that in over a quarter through the season, he has over a 3:1 TD/INT ratio and a 100+ QB rating. That's impressive enough to earn a heap of praise thus far.

You've only got to look at Cutler's last year in Denver when he was selected to go to the Pro Bowl to know that he has the talent to succeed if there are weapons around him that are capable of making plays. Unfortunately for him that's not the case in Chicago. He has Forte who is every bit as helpful to him as Rice is to Flacco but pretty much nothing else to work with. His O-line does its best to get him killed every game.

O line first please. The man takes a beating back there. I think the poor O line is one of the major factors in the high number of INTs.I still just don't like him though. Not a matter of talent just..personality lol

I'll take someone like Rodgers, Roethlisberger and Freeman over any stat QB. It's such a rare luxury for a QB to be clutch and play well with bad protection.

I don't think he's the most underrated but he definitely gets just about all of the credit (Him and Forte) from last night for even keeping them remotely close. That is one of the worst displays of an offensive line I think I've ever seen.

Their whole philosophy on offense stinks. They didn't think Olsen fit into their offensive system and they thought they could get it done with the WR they have. It's horrid. These offensive coordinators are so insistent on their system that they will force it down the teams throat until it chokes on it.

You can't make square pegs fit into round holes. You just can't.

I don't think Stafford is overrated. He didn't even have his best game last night. If people have seen his other games this year he is making some smart throws. But you have to like what you see from the youngster. He is taking deep shots down field. Against cover 2 if the initial read isn't there he is checking down.

Having Megatron helps. But lets not forget that this Lions team lost every game a few years back. Stafford is a big part of the transition. I would take him over Cutler in a heartbeat.

Stafford is a beast. I've always liked him way more than Bradford (those two get compared a lot)
