Slow Healers

Based on CBS Rapid Reports, it seems like everybody who was down is still dealing with injuries. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/rapid-reports/team/BAL

Man, I can't believe this Lee Evans thing. Possibly last all season?! Jimmy probably not gonna go, Zibi still not cleared (must have been a bad concussion), Ruki still out, not sure about Reed. We needed this bye a lot more than I realized, and then some. Don't know what's up with Grubbs, but that also seemed to be taking forever.

I still say we take care of business this week though.

Although the injuries seem to be piling up, most teams are dealing with them. Let's just hope we're healthy when it counts... In the playoffs & Superbowl.

Losing fox didn't hurt us nearly as bad as some teams losing their star players for the season. Our cigs will get healthy and work their way back into the line up.

I'm pretty sure Grubbs, Jimmy, and Evans all have ankle injuries, which are actually hard to come back from. Well not hard, but you know what I mean. And when playing OL, CB, and WR, you need that ankle to be full strength before you come back. Ankle inuries take a longer time to heal than you'd imagine and have many lingering effects that tend to remain for a while.

Amen to that. I know it takes time to come back just getting a little impatient I think. Looking at the schedule, if we can handle shorthanded Houston (who has legitimate injury gripes) and the Jags, maybe that's two more weeks where guys could get healthy if they needed to sit out.

Hey how would you like to be Houston and lose the two best players on the team (Johnson & Williams)
and arguably two of the best players in the NFL ?

That would be like us losing Ngata and Rice .

So far I think we have enough depth to pull us through .

Some of these injuries are a little bothersome. I'm actually doubting Lee Evens toughness a bit. When is a player ever 100 percent after the season starts....

While I kinda agree with you, did you see him limping on the field? And continue playing? Did you see that?

Lee evans is about speed, so if he has a nagging injury and cant run at full speed then it basically takes away what he does. Yes he's said multiple times he could play right now if we need him to but he would come in being more of a normal receiver. He's not big and fast, just fast, so if his speed is limited then he doesnt create any match up problems for the defense. Its not a question of toughness but rather the fact that this injury limits his biggest asset. It's like if a baseball pitcher throws 100 and a nagging injury has him throwing 92...he can still pitch but it limits his biggest aspect

I dont see the need to rush any of these guys back to be honest. The next three weeks we have a banged up Houston team w/o AJ and Mario Williams and a bad Arizona team both at home with an away game at Jacksonville sandwiched in between. I would like to have everyone back healthy, but if they arent ready we have more than capable back-ups and very good depth at pretty much every position.

I would prefer to have these guys heal fully before rushing them back. I see teams do this all the time and it can really make matters worse.

Knock on wood. We've been lucky not to have any big names go on IR like many other teams.

If we need them to rest more then so be it. No need to rush them for these next 3 games. We just need to stick with what we have right now, but we will need them come the steelers game. So I would say let them rest for another 2 to 3 weeks. It does suck though I had my hopes up thinking we will get everyone back.

Yeah, all these injuries are kinda annoying. I honestly have no clue if any of our injured players will start...they all seem like they're not ready. Thankfully we have a injured Texans than 2 easy games, but any given sunday.

Slow healers are a symptom of a good team with great depth. We don't need to rush any of those guys back because we can afford to let them heal up while we play backups and keep on winning games. Why should we rush back Jimmy Smith when Webb and Williams are taking care of business? Why risk Grubbs when Andre Gurode can hold down the left side just fine?

We need to make sure guys are healthy in the playoffs when we need them the most, rather than rush them into playing at a time when we can go on without them.

I always scoffed at toe injuries until I broke mine and ruptured the capsule in my big toe and it hurts worse then just about any knee surgery I've had.

I think it's more caution on the team's part than these guys being slow healers... no reason to rush any of these guys back.

I agree. The Ravens are sitting on 3-1 with a very weak schedule ahead. The only two games where Baltimore probably won't be heavily favored is @Pitt and @SD. The only other games I'm remotely concerned about are the Colts and Bengals games, only because their defenses always give Flacco fits, but as long as Flacco doesn't throw half a dozen INTs, Ravens probably win those going away. So I'd rather have guys like Evans and JS healthy for the playoffs and beyond when they'll actually be needed.

Yea, I saw him. I also witnessed him running poor routes and causing Joe to throw an INT. If he's hurt ..he's hurt but there hasnt been an injury listed for this guy.

I would rather have these players heal completely. Injuries take time to heal folks. They aren't machines, with the exception of Ray Lewis lol!

Thankfully we have quality depth that is performing very well, particularly on defense.

My guess for this weekend:

Probable -
Zibby
Carr
Ellerbe

Questionable -
Grubbs (think he will be activated)
Evans (Think he could go, but not sure if we will activate him or not)
David Reed (Not sure on this one. Thought he would be out longer but reports are that he is practicing some)

Doubtful -
Jimmy Smith (be practicing this week, activated against Jax)
Nakamura (Possibly back against Jax)

Totally forgot about Ellerbe. I think the consensus is right - we have the depth to deal (barring any other setbacks) and just let these guys get healthy and go when they're ready.

From what I have heard Grubbs has had a sprained toe, aka Turf toe. And that is something that does not heal quickly. I actually don't expect him for a couple more weeks

Jimmy Smith's injury might take him a couple more weeks before he is 100%. High ankle sprains linger.

Ruki had a MCL Sprain I believe, and if they don't let that heal properly, then that can turn into a tear pretty easily.

Zibby has a concussion, we will see about that, aka Sidney Crosby.

Lee Evans sounds like he is going to need surgery on that ankle. Doesn't sound like its going to get better on its own. Hopefully he can play through it.

Next man up, right?

Look at the packers last year, I think they had a record number of guys on IR for a super bowl team. Tom Brady was on every injury report last year, and the team still made the play-offs. The point being that every player and every team deals with these injuries and the fans just need to find a way to be patient with the healing process. We have depth, and we have talent in that depth this year. Plus the injuries that are being nursed aren't severe or season ending.

All honestly, everyone blows this Packers IR out of the water, they lost like, 3 starters.

Most importantly we need these guys for the playoffs. But we also really need them for huge games in Pittsburgh and San Diego. HUGE GAMES. I really want us to have Ben Grubbs and Chris Carr at least for those games. Losing Lee Evans for a while really sucks but Torrey Smith is looking good so far. It would be nice to get David Reed back. He is a deep threat and brings some experience to our young reciever corp. (excluding Boldin)

I agree that the Steelers and Chargers are potential losses. The Bengals and Browns can score and they both always play us tough regardless of their records. Our season will be riding on how we handle the weaker teams on our schedule. The Titans aren't as good as they looked against us. The Steelers easily defeated them. Let's just take the season one game at a time and don't worry too much about each loss. I expect the team to lose a few more games. It's how we bounce back that's most important.

Remember the season when it seemed like practically everyone was injured at some point. Don't remember which year it was but weren't we close to double digits on IR that season? This is nothing. As long as no one is rushed back, they'll be fine.

And trust me when I say that tissue damage can take forever to heal. The rotator cuff tendon I strained the end of September last year is finally feeling normal again (although I can still feel it sometimes if I move it the wrong way).

And Puey if you jinxed I'm kicking your butt.

I feel comfortable enough to even let Evans and Smith rest and heal fully for the next 3 games (Texans, Jags, Cards). Ideally I would like to see them at least come back against the Cards to get a game in before going out to Pitt.
