Smith, Webb or Carr at LCB

41 posts in this topic

Jimmy, when healthy, will probably start as our #3. A good thing in that there will be less pressure on him at the start and it sets up some competition at corner. It looks like Gorrer may also be productive in the mix.

Funny how we could soon be in pretty good shape after being close to having Haloti line up at CB .

Webb then Cary then Carr then Smith.
In the late 3rd quater or 4th quater with a lead we probably put Smith in every down.
But I think he'll ease his way in slowly and start with Webb at about week 6 or 7. He'll still see alot playing time hopefully when he comes back,
Ohh how I love our CBs

webb just makes perfect sense in the nickel slot and jimmy makes perfect sense at the lcb spot. jimmy will be our starting lcb within 3 weeks of coming back. like others have said, i think they will start off with webb at lcb in non nickel situations, and jimmy at lcb in nickel situation

Yea this. Webb will start but Jimmy will play outside in nickel and webb will slide inside

This is what I see happening also. Webb will get the nod early on but when three come on the field, more than likely he will be the slot CB. Verdict is still out on Webb IMO and Cary has more lead way seeing this is his first year starting so is like he's a rookie. I would say Webb has benefitted more from our great pass rush than the ladder but I could be wrong. I can see Jimmy starting by mid season and the competition will be out of Cary or Webb for #2 and I think Cary wins.

Theres no telling with who will play where and when. One thing is for sure is Webb is playing like a man possessed, Cary even though he gives up about one big play every game is playing the ball really well. Given enough time and experience i can see Cary being a permanent starter. Smith has alot of upside but has proven nothing yet, i cant wait to see him on the field against the elite. Carr played well last year but not to say anything negative, but from what he said in the off-season about wanting to start, and NOT starting seems to have diminished his motivation. I hope he gets his fire back because he would contribute to the "2011 Ravens D" which from where its going will go down as one of, if not the GREATEST units...

no love for webb? No way cary and jimmy pass him on yhe depth chart.. Webb is playing some of the best defense on our team right now..

Like I said, the verdict is still out on Webb to me, he has benefited from the pass rush so it's hard to evaluate him right now. Only thing that saves Cary is he's like a rookie so if he's beat every now and then it will be understandable. I don't want this to happen ( It's going to happen though, it's inevitable ) as it happened against the Titans but I would like to see how our CB's play, preferably Webb when we aren't generating a great pass rush. I just feel Jimmy could still play solid for us even without a great pass rush and I don't feel the same about Webb. Like what's been said countless times, makes more sense to have Webb in the slot with the way Pagano likes to blitz his slot CB and as far as covering, I feel Webb can play that better than Cary and Jimmy seeing that he's like 5'10 with more fluid hips and better change of direction by physics.

I'm not saying for Jimmy to come str8 in and knock Webb out the box but in like 3 games, I can see that move happening!

JSmith will be our nickel, but we'll slide Webb inside and let JSmith operate on the outside for awhile. Let JSmith get back up to speed by limiting his reps on his ankle and put less stress on him.

I agree with this in the sense that jimmy should be our 3rd cornerback but he should in no way be the nickel cornerback. Jimmy is a lockdown outside cornerback with great size and cover ability, but against a usually shorter and shiftier wide receiver or running back Jimmy may be a little too tall and not quite quick enough to get his body around to cover those type of guys
