Smith, Webb or Carr at LCB

41 posts in this topic

After the bye week Jimmy smith our first round selection in the draft n also the most talented corner on our D and Chris carr a very always solid corner who is pretty consistent and never seems to give up to many big plays are suspectfully coming back off of injury and we have webby who has been pretty consistent since week 1 who is coming out of the nickel to fill in for these guys n been playin lights out....but who do we start? IMO I see Jimmy getting alot of reps sooner then later becuz he's our #1 pick and could be a shutdown corner by the end of the season...and webby seems to do better in the slot becuz of his quickness and blitz ability and carr I can see doing either one but I think Jimmy beats him out....any takes on what you guys think?

I expect Webb to see most of the reps in the short term, he's earned it because he's played very well. When Jimmy gets more time under his belt, he'll take it over. I imagine that would be some time towards the end of this season. I think Carr gets his reps when we rotate. Not to mention we still have Cary to take into the equation, who I would put above Carr in the depth chart.

Webbs our starter hands down.. Cary is our #2 and a healthy carr will be our nickel back.. Jimmy will start by getting time when we run 4+ dbs which we do a lot..
If he plays well, he'll get more minutes..

Hopefully jimmy can come on quick cause that can free up webb a bit to blitz more.. I absokutely love it when we bring webb/reed on a hard blitz

Webb until further notice... I think he's earned it. Jimmy Smith is still an unknown and Chris Carr can't stay healthy.

If smith is healthy I expect him to be number 3. Carr and Webb will start but webb will move to the slot in three receiver sets.

Webb for the time being. Jimmy will be worked in as our 3rd or 4th corner for now. I know people won't like this but expect to see Jimmy doing a lot of special teams

I expect a lot of rotations and situational positioning.

Ladarius Webb has showcased his ability to play at starting CB and I'd say #2 is between Cary Williams and Jimmy Smith as they rotate. Chris Carr does a good job on slot receivers and decent job matching up with the TE. Then when you switch into different formations like nickle package you can have Webb as the 3rd corner because of his versatility and being able to blitz, switching in Bennard Pollard at SS who can also blitz which can create confusion for opposing offenses. With that you could have Chris Carr and Jimmy Smith/Carey Williams as the two outside corners.

I am impressed by Carey Williams, but I'm not sold on him as a full time starter. He is physically similar to Jimmy Smith, but Smith is definitely faster and more talented. It would not surprise me to see him becoming an eventual starter later down the season.

Granted if all the corners stay healthy you have some good depth and it is a very talented group. If the front 4 can apply good pressure and you have all these quality corners in say a dime package it would be great to have against the top passing teams who like to spread out and go for an aerial assault like the Packers and Patriots. Then you add in the depth at DL with guys like Phernell McPhee, Art Jones, and maybe even Brandon McKinney to rush the passers and you have a steady defense that can attack the QB and hold up in the back end against quick receivers.

I agree, I like Webb in the slot the amazing height difference between Jimmy and Foxworth is hugh. If you saw the press release with "Jimmy on the Spot," you would see how much taller Jimmy is then Fox. With Jimmy's size and speed he will be great someday...

D'oh!! I meant Cary not carr. 2 receivers sets cary/webb. 3 receiver cary/jimmy outside with webb inside. Carr is 4

I would start Cary and Jimmy outside, with Webb in the nickel or rotating in outside on the faster receiver. Carr can rotate in, in the nickel or play fourth corner.

Really great problem to have, but i cant see them messing with what we have right now. Cary and Webb are playing lights out. Although they need to play a better offense to test that theory, and they will get their chance against Houston. Smith will be first into the fold, then Carr will get his chance. Really can't see Carr starting, even though he probably one of the most all around talented corners on the team. He is destined to be in the nickel and dime packages.

I agree. Webb in the nickel would be deadly with our two most physical DB's on the outside with Carr rotating for that 3rd spot. Can't wait for The Jimmy to come back so we can see what he's made of.

Exactly. If there is a deep threat on the outside, like Mike Wallace, then Webb should cover him outside. Otherwise Webb should play in the nickel, and you are right, he would be deadly. Carr hasn't shown anything in the preseason or the regular season that would make me start him, so for now he should rotate in with Webb, or play in the nickel if Webb is covering a fast WR on the outside.

JSmith will be our nickel, but we'll slide Webb inside and let JSmith operate on the outside for awhile. Let JSmith get back up to speed by limiting his reps on his ankle and put less stress on him.

Why let Webb cover Wallace? Wallace is a big reciever who can out physical Webb....I say Jimmy should cover Wallace because of his size and press coverage abilities...he can jam him and slow the timing down ALOT and Jimmy is just as fast as webb is if not faster but I would like to see Jimmy get physical with whines ward tho and shut his [profanity deleted] down

I've never head Wallace referred to as big or physical. Ever. Only as a speed WR. Although, I can agree with Jimmy covering him. Jimmy's speed and press ability could take Wallace out. But, Webb isn't that bad at press coverage. He just gets out-physicaled by bigger WRs.

Webb covered Wallace last October in week 4, and he held Wallace to two catches for 24 yards. Webb is considered to be our fastest corner, and therefore I would put Webb on the fastest WR, at least until Jimmy Smith develops into our #1 corner.

I expect Webb to continue to start but shift inside to nickel on passing downs. Smith would then take his place on the outside.

i thought this as well.
