Popularity Of The Defense Rising?

22 posts in this topic

A lot of us including myself can't wait to watch our favorite offenses to blow up the opposing defense; those long grabs and tight window throws are exciting to watch: Rodgers spreading offense, Brady to Welker and TEs, Brees to TEs, Rivers to Jackson, and many more. We watch football mostly because of the arial attacks of the offense imposing on the defense rather than vice versa.

This year with out hot start and electrifying performing of our defense, would it change anything about viewers' perception to watch football now?

I myself love to watch the offense than the defense (except the 2000 defense), but this year really change my mind. I have no concern or worries when our defense step on the field. Of course there are some hiccups down the road on the defense like against the Titans, but our defense will get better every week with the amount of depth on the bench.

I think it's going to win over some of the die hards who still love football, but are a little disenchanted with the league's shift to favor the passing game. They destroy opposing offenses and they do it with style. It's a very fun brand to watch.

Offensive heavy football is horrible. I wr wanted that we could watch arena or college ball. I hate that 400 yards passing is nothing these days, it used to be hard to get 300. You nnever used to see qbs with 40+ attempts, now its almost guarenteed. Rushing is obsolete as is defense really.

Nfl has became one dimensional instead of 4 dimensional

I have old school tastes when it comes to football, and I think in a lot of ways Baltimore is an old school town. I have lived in a lot of places, and I have never seen a town root for it's defense like Baltimore roots for the Ravens.

I don't think there is any change in that trend either as long as we have Lewis, Reed, Suggs, Ngata, etc.

Hell the stadium was so loud on Sunday night that I could swear I could hear the roar from my home in Abingdon!!

If by "us" you mean Ravens fans, you will likely find that the opposite is true. Fans of this team are usually fans of defensive football.

I always get more excited about our defense taking the field than the offense. I guess I've just been conditioned by watching the Ravens for so long.

This Ravens defense should appeal to any real football fan. How can it not, football is all about hard hitting and chaos. There is something extremely impressive about defenses that can take over games. Forget high powered passing offenses. I love the ground and pound run game and hard hitting defenses.

I agree and this is one of the main reasons I don't really watch college football. When I see scores like I'm looking at a college basketball game, that's very displeasing to me. I would rather watch a dominant defense than a dominant offensive showing any day of the week ( I'm a defensive minded person ). Like those old Bulls teams in the 90's with MJ, of course I loved to see MJ put on a showing scoring 50+ points but what I really loved about those Bulls teams, especially the Bulls teams with Rodman was how they shut the opposition down. Their starting squad consist of 3 former DPOY with the 4 player in Harper getting nods for 2nd team All Defense.

There were long stretches of Ravens football were I was much more excited to see our defense than our offense - still happens, from time to time.

I love watching a good defensive football game. I've always loved defense, but lately, I've been very excited to see our offense. I love our defense and offense.

I have always loved Good Defensive Football, that is why I absolutely hated the Thursday Night Opener between the Packers & Saints, absolutely no defense, just points, points and more points. Honestly, I don't care if our offense only puts up 7 or 3 points but if we shut out the opposing offense and win I'm happy. That's why I have so much respect for our rivalry with the Steelers, both play good hard defensive football, and both don't try to become what Roger Goodell wants the NFL to be, they just go out hit hard, and play as hard as they can to prevent the other team from scoring.

I want my Defensive Football back Roger Goodell!

I like seeing big offensive strikes from our team but this saying sums up how I feel about offensive performances nowadays:

"Praise, like gold and diamonds (and big offensive performances/plays), owes its value only to its scarcity."

The point being when you see huge offensive performances being put up every week it loses some of its "wow factor". Being a Ravens fan you have to appreciate defensive football and especially when it's becoming rarer as offenses take over.

See the user name lol

Always been a fan of good D. There is just something about an aggressive D imposing their will.

Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy it immensely when our O is clicking and making it happen but I can't wait for our D to hit the field.

Ya know for those of you who think when Ray and Ed retire that this is going to be an offensive team you are only kidding yourself. this is the house that Ray built and always will be. Now what I hate most is how the league is being wussified by king pansy (GODell) however the only times I can get on board with almost thinking of praising the steeler's lol is when they tell GODell to go piss up a rope. He is the worst thing to ever happen to football and is the bane to teams like ours.

that being said WE have and will always remain a defensive team because of the players we have we are always goign to draft certain types of players, and those players are going to have the Ravens mentality. Right now the only two guys on Offense I see with our mentality is Rice and Boldin.

If the offence could play at the same level as the defence did against the Jets wouldn't that be scary, no wait aminute didn't that happen in game one

The scarier part is that a lot of the time people were open, but Flacco just had a horrible game. Wait till the timing and chemistry with the new-look offense has improved, we're going 14-2. lol
