Sold On Torrey Smith?

47 posts in this topic

After seeing Torrey torch the rams D people loved it but at the same time didn't know what to make of it cuz it's ONLY the rams BUT after seeing him out physical n beat revis deep to only be overthrown by flacco makes me really ticked cuz it cuda been a TD along with another long bomb when he beat a safety deep but was underthrown and another time when he was coming across the EZ all alone but was thrown behind and cudnt make the catch...BUT espescially beating revis and backing him off of press coverage has me sold that this kid is the real deal and he will be HUGE after his rookie season...any thoughts?

Not a 100% yet, but pretty close. I love what I have seen so far. He has that workman like ethic and Q as a mentor/teacher so.... If he can put all that together and be consistent he is going to be very good.

im sold.its david reed, tandon doss and laquan williams that im waiting to see take that next step.last year rodgers had greg jennings, donald driver, jordy nelson and james jones so if we can get joe that 4th dependable wr then maybe that will help joe take his game to the same level as rodgers.i cant wait to see our passing game with boldin, evans and smith as the 3rd guy.most peoples slot cb have the talent of justin king(the cb covering torrey in st louis) or worst and thats who he'll be seeing.so if rex saw something that made him think he needed to put the best corner in the league on our 3rb best guy then i can see us going 15-1 with the shedule we have.

Nothing against doss but I like Williams n reed more just because of the speed but I do like doss in the redzone because of his size but I think 1 possession reciever is enough...I'm waiting to see who fights it out between reed n Williams

And I agree 100% he is a huge mismatch for any safety or nickelback n sometimes defenses get caught trying to put a linebacker on the slot reciever...can u imagine lol

No.

One game against a dreadful secondary doesn't change my opinion on him. He is still pretty raw, and has a lot of work to do.

I'm not sold on him right now as a player, but I am sold on his potential and I believe that he will reach that potential, because of the work ethic and humble personality that everyone talks about. Plus he's got that speed that unskilled corners can't deal with. And I say unskilled because the guy that Torrey was absolutely torching ran a 4.3 40. He's got to work on his hands, still. That throw in the endzone should have been caught, even though the throw was pretty bad. And he still body catches, but these are all things that can be worked out if the player is willing to put in the work.

I was sold when we drafted him! Hes a rookie he's going to have growing pains and learning curves but we had a glimpse at what he can do and Im excited defenses have to account for the long ball all season with him now because of that one dominating perfomance, And I for one am glad hes on the Ravens!

Yearh - there are big difference between running a fast straight 40-time and flipping your hips and adapting to the route of a burner. I think it looked like Torrey kinda slowed down between the double coverage and then accelarated and got separation when he saw the ball thrown his way! Loved it! :)

that is true!

and that could've been due to the fact that he and Joe weren't on the same page on that play! hopefully, the chemistry and trust between Joe and Torrey will continue to improve after the bye and that they will connect more than miss on those big play opportunities.

Not entirely sold yet on Smith, he's a rookie and still developing in the NFL, let's see how he is later in the season and then next year.

I'm sold on he is rookie WR which means he most likely will finish the season closer to 550 yds receiving rather than 800-1,000 yds which is rare for rookie WRs. ( even given his 150 ram game ).

He can get deep, Flacco did miss him several times vs the jets. But I want to see him create yds after the catch on slants , drags or smoke screens. Maybe work on some double moves to the outside..

I am sold that he won't be a bust and I like his potential.

I've had the same view of torrey since before the draft.

"Over the moon in the 2nd round" and I am extremely happy he's on my team.

I'm sold on his elite speed, that dude "Bolts" down the field.;)
I'm very very excited to see Boldin, Evans, Smith, Dickson, Pitta, Rice for the rest of the season, the Ravens have some serious weapons this year, Flacco just needs to be consistent and get the ball to these play makers!

Definitely sold. How could you not be? I expect at least 5 more long bomb TD's to him by the year's end. Our schedule is too easy for him and Joe to lose their connection (no [profanity deleted]).

I was blown away by his first career game against the Rams. Like it's been said he is a rookie and he still has a few kinks to get out but I have high hopes for him. He should have had some big catches against the Jets if Flacco had completed the throw because he definitely had separation. Also currently a student at University of Maryland its awesome to see someone from my school making an impact on my home team!

WRs can burst out onto the scene from nowhere. I'd give him 3 years of NFL experience before deciding his long term future.

He has such a great work ethic, idk how anyone can't be sold on him. Love this kid. I was skeptical before we drafted him, and for the first 2 weeks I was very critical. Now I'm much more optimistic.

when we drafted him alot of people was talking like he was slow. at least he silenced people about that burning a cb and a safety. that is serious speed right there.

I don't see how you can make any assessment of Torrey after 4 games... I'll reserve judgment until after the season/playoffs.

not sold yet, he needs at least 1yr of NFL experience in order to be considered trusted elite deep threat; however, his hard working attitude will be a promising take to help him entering top reciever forum.

I really like the kid btw; it's something at least to excite me to watch him closedly every time the offense on the field....

If we run 3 wrs (boldin, evans, smith) the defense couldnt double cover everyone. Evans and Smith at the same time could be double the power. Have them both run deep, Boldin 1 on 1 coverage on the inside is as good as anyone. Plus Dickson is a missmatch for most LBs and can get open. PLUS we got Rice who we can just checkdown too and get hella yards. Theres really no excuse for our offense to do poorly.
We got a QB who has a good arm, whos mobile, accurate, and has a great deep ball, RB who can run and catch the ball great, and has alot of power, Best run blocking FB, Good TE thats hard to cover, great pass blocking RB in sticky Ricky, great O line when healthy.
If we let our guys do their things we could be top offense

I think he had a good game in his second start against the great Jets defense, too. It's not his fault that on four passes Joe Flacco:

Overthrew him when he had Revis a body behind him.
Overthrew him when he had Cromartie 6 feet behind him.
Underthrew him when he was behind ex-MSU SS Eric Smith.
Threw behind him to his behind-hip when he was open in the endzone on a crossing route.

Even if Torrey can't be that complete number 1 WR like we all hope, at least we know he's got the speed to be our deep threat. That's really all we've ever needed, so if he can turn into a superstar, it'll be another awesome find by Ozzie and company.

I'm going to have to agree. I can't believe more people aren't talking about how he burnt Revis and if it wasn't for a slight hold, that would have been 4 TDs for Torrey already, not even counting the other three misses.
