Bye Week Adjustments

Stop trying to throw the ball 50 times when you have a double digit lead. There's a difference between "being aggressive" as I've heard Harbs and Joe say, and just winging it because we think we can. Obviously there is still work for Joe and all the receivers to put in on their timing and the like and that is understandable with all the new pieces our team has on offense. My problem is just throwing it because of some little fantasy some people on our team have about being a top 5 passing team. We are nowhere near that point so there is no reason for Cam, Joe and everyone involved to be throwing the ball as much as we did the last 2 weeks and Sunday night the passing game could have easily lost that game for us if the D wasn't playing lights out. I have always been a Flacco fan and although I've ragged on Cam in the past, he can be a great playcaller when his original plan works fine. I guess what I'm getting at is I would like to see Cam actually be able to adjust his gameplan if his original isn't working as he had thought.

That would be fine if they had the talent at receivers that we did, but if we are putting our best players on the field then by virtue we should run more spread sets than they do because I dont think they have a single receiver that is better than any of ours.

Anyone else see the Patriots-Jets game? See how the Patriots ran all over the Jets? They ran it up the gut, and didn't run many lame, zone stretch plays. The Patriots run a man-blocking scheme, and ran all over the Jets. Hope Cam was watching that!

I think that dies down fast, he is a cheap Q and always will be he just has a guy named Tom Brady throwing to him. Has he put up great numbers yeah, but there are rare cases where somebody outshines their ability.

Yep. Welker's a cheap Q, but beat Revis on a seam route today.

Yes he did, but it was not really revis who was on him from the line and they were not playing bump and run coverage and Bevis was not using his patented "hold peoples hand halfway down the field" technique"

True. It looked like Revis was on him to me. Either way, Revis is overrated. :P

I'd like to see Cam call more quick slants, bubble screens, and regular RB or TE screens, especially when facing teams with a really good pass rush. Not only will it allow Joe to get into a rhythm with his receivers, but we have the playmakers that will make a big play and give the whole offense confidence and slow down the pass rush coming at Joe, opening up deeper pass plays later.
[/quote]
This^^^^^^! If Cam can factor in the " NE scheme " as I like to call it with the little dump off passes and things to slow down the opposition's pass rush or tire them out and keep Flacco in a rhythm and mix it in with the Coyell, our O would be fine. Can't put that much pressure on Flacco and the O-line for the constant 5-7 step drops, got to mix in the 3 step drops and then ease the 5-7 step drop plays in like GB and NE does marvelously.

Consistent offensive gameplan, mixing up the run and the pass more instead of doing one more than the other.

Id like to see this, the past 2 games we have been throwing way to much, yea it worked against the rams, but you have got to be less predictable and mix it up more on offense, especially with a back like Rice

Webb did a great job returning kicks, but is it best to risk injury to him after he has fully recovered for the last one. I don't think David Reed will ever be a good receiver, but he is good at returning kicks. I never want to see Ed Reed back there to return punts. Let's keep the team healthy and we will go far.

The only bye week adjustments we really need to focus on are more for special teams and the offense. Granted on offense we have had to make player adjustments and we should hopefully have almost all our starters there in place. The other thing is to make necessary in-game adjustments, particularly on offense. How we played against the Jets was a pretty good case of adjusting the game plan and running it more. That and receivers need to focus on catching the ball more lol.

And 99 time s out of a 100 god knows I agree with you about adjustments however two things now.
With Torrey smith provin that he can catch and a healthy lee Evans we have two guys who can make this offense very volatile. And with an athletic tight end that can spread the field as well, with Q working the middle I like the idea, and have no doubt we can be a top 5 passing offense.

As for doing it in the Jets game, I know but I like the call because they saw that Sanchez was doing nothing with our D, and Out of 10 bombs it only takes one. And when else do you suggest Joe get his timing issues worked out. I like the fact that we are trying it because if it can start clicking hopefully around week 9, but even if we can do it after we are going to be scarier than GB in my opinion.
