Torrey Smith: Who Does He Remind You Of?

This is different from Romo's already running Torrey Smith thread, as his was a 'what can he do for our team' kind of thread..... this is a 'who does he have potential to be like' thread that deals mainly with the future.

To me, he reminds me of a young Roddy White. Same questions on his catching/routes coming out of college and for the first few years (Torrey has quietened down the concerns a little, but they're still there); same size basically; same speed; same work ethics; same look almost haha

Who do you get reminded of when looking at Torrey Smith?? What kind of player can he be in a few years?

Hes definitely faster than White.

I'm not sure I can make a comparison after how little we've seen thus far though.

I think he'll become a Donte Stallworth type player, without all the off-field issues. Which is pretty good.

He absolutely dominated at Maryland. I think the F.O. has finally found a couple of recievers who will actually be great instead of putrid.

Same size, same speed, same effort in making plays...watching Torrey dive for that attempted TD catch against STL looked straight out of a Berrian highlight reel

However,staying on topic, I think he is a Sidney Rice or Santonio Holmes clone. It will take him a while to be a clear cut number 1 or 2 but thats what he will be for us one day.

Stallworth brandon lloyd terry glenn shorter sidney rice. . Reminds me so far of just a burner who will try and run block but isnt that great at it (yet) and isnt a great route runner

He reminds me of Torrey Smith. he ain't like anyone else. That's not even a huge compliment, his game just doesn't really resemble anyone's. if I had to pick it be Harvin but still, they're too different. Why does every rookie need a veteran counterpart, so many of these guys are unique and don't play like anyone. It's a pretty simple formula for how they compare players.

Good black mobile qb = mike vick

Bad black mobile qb = tavaris jackson

fast black slot wr = harvin/stallworth

fast white slot wr = wes welker

and so on.. this is why we always hear the same comparisons

Berrian is not a bad comparison with the speed and build. Roddy White is not at Torrey Smith's level of speed--he's good enough to be an elite receiver but not so much to count as a speed receiver. White makes more of his living on being physical.

That's about right. Maclin is just a little bit more complete because he's been in longer.
