Ravens Power Ranking--Week 4

58 posts in this topic

Most of the Power Rankings i have read this week have the Ravens at 5 behind the Packers, Patriots, Saints and Lions. Do you feel like these rankings are just for this week, or do the Ravens deserve a little more respect. How would you rank the top 5. I don't know about you guys but i know for a fact that we would handle the Lions.

Honestly, I could care less. Not pointed towards you, but these kind of rankings are simply fodder for talking heads.

Would we handle the lions? Could we cover megatron and protect flacco and rice from their front four? I think we match up better against patriots and saints than the lions

It looks good to me right now. I'd probably put the Saints at 5 and the Ravens at 4 though

4-5 is about right. Lions front 4 (as Alexir eluded to) is nasty as hell and of course CJohnson scares the bejesus out of me!

Please name me one noteworthy team the Lions have beaten, this year or last

Patriots shouldnt be that high. Their defense is putrid. If our offense decides to show up more consistently (both run and passing) then I see us being top 3

Yes, they have won against the bottom feeders of the NFL, they still cannot be taken lightly. They are playing well, poor opposition or not!

Please name me one cornerback in the NFL, noteworthy or not, who could cover Calvin Johnson. Please also name me one noteworthy or not offensive lineman who has controlled Suh. The lions are not a bad team, while i think we would win because we are a better team overall the lions are not pushovers

A 3-1 bucs team, a 2-2 cowboys team, and a division rival all on the road. They don't make the schedule. We have played the rams (0-4), titans, the old steelers and our defense beat the jets.

Our real test is against Houston

True, but the bucs are not good, they barely beat the headless horses last night, everyone knows the cowboys are the biggest joke in the nfl (choke artists) and i agree witht eh statement about Houston because they are the last tough game on our schedual besides pittsburgh in pittsburgh

Lions are a great team this year. Like you said they won two tough road games.

I don't think we could contain the Lions. I think the game could go either way. We are good at stopping the run but the Lions don't even use a run game. They just pass to Calvin Johnson which would be exploiting a weakness for us. We would need to get the pass rush going.

The Cowboys got great protection for Romo for long periods on Sunday. I'm not discrediting Suh; he's a great player but I think we could do a decent job against him. Our interior OL of Grubbs - Birk - Yanda is very good when healthy.

Megatron would destroy us. When Stafford has time to look around for easy options but still decides to try to beat triple coverage to force it to him, that's when you know he's on fire. We'd have to put Stafford on the floor early and often to contain him.

I haven't a problem with being 4 or 5. I think the Saints status as number 2 is a bit iffy but it doesn't bother me that they are ranked ahead of us.

Or having JSmith for that game. Im also not sold on Stafford finishing a game against us with how much we hit QBs. The Lions front 4 is gross yes, but the rest of that defense is pretty mediocre. Isolate Dickson and Rice on their LBs and it should be a long day for them.

4-0 is 4-0. In the NFL, that's as good as good gets. I don't care who you've played.

NFL.com has us 3rd behind Green Bay and New Orleans.
I see us at #6 on NFL.com. Behind GB, NO, Detroit, NE, and Houston.

I don't think it's a slap in the face for us to not be Top 5 right now anyway. Do I think we would wipe the floor with Detroit? Absolutely. Cowboys dominated them until Romo decided to gift them 14 points. However I am not so sure how we'd fair against New Orleans or New England. I think Green Bay is a much better team than we are right now, but they appear to be better than everyone else as well.

Awesome....so now NFL.com even contradicts themselves with the "Power Rankings" and "Power Poll"

Upon further reading, "Powering Ranking" is one dudes opinion, while the "Power Poll" is based on 9 different analysts rankings.

The one you link to is the opinion of one analyst, and the other one 1/28/01 linked to is a combination of all the analysts based on a points system. That's the one I saw earlier.

It kind of funny, but every week someone claims that our "real" test is whatever team we are playing next. When do we get graded?

Top 5 seems about right and I think Peter King ranked us at # 2 behind the Packers. The country is really enamored with pass happy offense these days so our Ravens are not going to be treated the same as Patsies / Saints and now Stafford and the Lions.

Looks like every team this season has flaws somewhere...except Packers so far. They are clearly number 1 IMO, we fall in the top 5.

It is true but it seems like as the season goes teams are not what we thought they were. I knew the jets were garbage and the Rams are the Rams but the Titans and Steeler games kinda made me go 'huh?'

Who knows, maybe in 2 weeks we will dismantle a Johnson-less Texans and we will all be talking about the Bengals

After texans game the only real threat is chargers. I don't remember anyone saying titans or rams is the real test and only the offense was put to test in my eyes vs jets and they failed miserably.

Not too concerned with Power Rankings, but its nice to see the team get some respect. It says a lot that we embarrassed and exposed both representatives from last year's AFCCG so far.

The lions are totally one dimensional. Not only can they not run, they can only win with lobbed passes to calvin johnson it seems. We could take the lions. Ed reed matches up very well against their style

And lets not forget that our front seven would dismantle glassew stafford
