Anyone Else Wanted Cris Collinsworth To Shut Up?

60 posts in this topic

The only reason Collinsworth is annoying is because I play too much Madden and I've heard his phrases on there too many times lol. I thought he did a good job on Sunday night. It's rare you'll find a commentator who doesn't say anything which rubs fans the wrong way.

Funny., I was just lurking over at a Jets board and they were complaining about how Collinsworth was biased against them.

I personally think that he's pretty even-handed and makes pretty god points most of the time. He probably feels as though he has to talk even when he really doesn't have anything to say in order to avoid DEAD AIR!

I respect an objective viewpoint even if it can bother me from time to time. If we really wanted to, we could pick apart every broadcaster out there for something.

I've always hated Collinsworth. I think he nit-picks and trash talks everybody, not just the Ravens. He always refers back to his playing days and what he used to do better... as if he was Jerry Rice or something.

I don't like Collinsworth when he comments on players but I like his football insight. He does get irritating though. He seems to think he is better than he is.

Gus Johnson is the man.

Now Dan Dierdrof drives me absolutely insane. When I see him doing games, any games, I get irked. he also loves Pittsburgh waaaaaay too much. I wanted him to shut up so bad during the Texan game.

I usually don't have an issue with collinsworth because ever week. He kinda bashes one of the two teams once an error or mistake occurs... Usually when we play he is talking about our inability to beat pittsburgh.

But in that game he went on for 10 minutes about a punt block attempt by Ed Reed kept begging for replays of it etc. We had punted the ball back he was still complaining. Then when pollard was blocked into kicker he still wouldn't let go of Ed Reed play. ( it's not like it was a mistake like giants vs cards lol )

Ngata sacks Sanchez he starts yelling how it's a dropped helmet. To back of QB where is flag etc.

Although he was getting on my nerves. He did echo my thoughts as I yelled at tv for the ravens to run the ball with 20 pt lead....
I had this feeling we were going to throw it away like the cowboys did. Have lead pass pass killing the clock.
The first half of game was over 2 hrs long because of all the incomplete passes...

i generally don't like any of the talking heads, and collinsworth is one of the worst offenders. i do'nt hate the guy. sometime he says good things. does he sound drunk to you? he's probably not allowed to drink, so you'd conclude he sounds like this all the time. in this sense, the goofiness can be charming.

all of the TV commentary is hurting. they often confuse the players on the field, they don't often correct themselves, and while they're not supposed to be biased, they always come off that way.

i propose a better way to broadcast sports shows. take an uberfan of both teams and let them call the game. one of my best and most hated friends is a steelers fan. imagine our commentary during a steelers-ravens game: it is not only accurate and informing because we both know our teams inside and out, but it is also incredibly entertaining and insulting! we don't hide our bias. that's how it should be

i dunno i cant stand Collingsworth. I remember when he was commentating on a ravens steelers game I actually muted my tv because I couldnt stand listening to him.

Whatever you do, don't watch the NBA finals.

I really don't like biased commentators though I'd always like to see a commentator from the Steelers go up against a commentator of the Ravens for one of the games. They would bring up some intense debates and it would make the game either be more painful or a better win. Just hearing the reaction from the other teams commentator would be pretty nice.

Collinsworth is annoying. He beats a point into the ground, even while play continues. It's like he ignores the game, thinking he is presenting some great revelation.

Sunday night, I started to mute the tv and turn on 98 rock, but remembered the HD broadcast is a few seconds behind the radio.

He's also a curse. Prior to the game starting I said to my BF (a Steelers' fan) that Flacco was not going to have a good game because Collinsworth kept talking him up. How he looked like Manning running the practices etc etc etc. I knew he'd dropped the curse on Flacco.

Chris Collinsworth is just a horrible color commentary guy period. No matter what game he broadcasts I cannot stand listening to him, because he says some of the dumbest most obvious things. He also needs to remember, he was only considered a "good" WR because he played on the Bengals. I have hated listening to games he broadcasts ever since the first time I heard him call a game......bring back Madden!!!

I can't stand Collinsworth. He could be praisng the Steelers for an hour nonstop and my opinion wouldn't change. His voice irks me.

I think hes so annoying and he's always laughing while he's making comments. Last year he annoyed me and my friends so much we actually thought about starting a petition to get him off of Sunday night football.

I can't stand him in madden and wish they kept maddens voice for the game.

He appears to be unbelievably biased towards Pittsburgh and the Jets, but most of them are. I don't know if anyone caught the comment last Sunday on the Jets-v-New England game. At one point it looked like the Jets were going to rally and one of those commentators made a statement to the effect, "Well it wasn't the Ravens were that good the Jets let themselves down" or something like that...I was amazed when they said it.

Maybe it's just nostalgia from my youth, but man all this talk about broadcasters makes me miss Madden and Summerall really badly. Again, maybe just nostalgia, but I can't remember anyone commenting any better than those two.

I think my problem with Cris Collinsworth is how he comes across. He reminds me of the likeable uncle who's a nice enough guy but tries too hard to sound smart, which in turn, makes him sound stupid.

It irks me that Collinsworth can never sound truly serious and into the moment. It's like he's just kicking back and drinking a beer while watching the game.

I prefer my commentators to either be passionate or professional -- maybe even both (see: Gus Johnson on a good day, Brian Billick, Al Michaels in his prime, etc.)

you must love jon gruden too-get him calling a game with an elite quarterback, and break out the mops for all his gushing.

Madden was great back in the day but his last few years were classic demensia, which was also great! :)
