Danny Gorrer - Legit?

Trash talk is only bad when you do it like Rex does, talking all the crap and making other people have to bail you out. For some it elevates their play.

I honestly could care less if they trash talked as long as they back it up.. i don't think saying something is going to completely ruin your image.
Its really not a big deal, everyone does it.

Trash talking has been part of this game since the BEGINNING. Geez. This game has a psychological aspect to it as well.

Did Vince Lombardi and his players talk trash? No. They had discipline and respect. Not saying our players our thugs, but I don't like having thug-like, over-confident, egotistical, big ego players. I'd rather have 53 guys that worked hard, had no ego, didn't talk trash and went back to the huddle after simply deflecting a pass. Talking trash is disrespectful. It's unsportsmanlike. You can play the game mean, violently, and rough without talking trash.

There are definitely some beneficial aspects to trash talking, just look at the Andre Johnson/Cortland Finnegan fight that was brought up. He trash talked, got inside Andre's head, and got the best player on the field out of the game. However most of the time I do view it as unnecessary and kind of annoying. Like others have said, let your play do the talking.

Okay so going back to Danny Gorrer, I liked what he has shown so far. My guess is that he's earned himself an activation spot even if our CBs are healthy. This also gives him an opportunity should Carr or J. Smith require more time after the bye.

Remember folks it's a long season and we still have a tough schedule ahead of us.

I like his performance thus far and feel good about him becoming another part of this team. More quality depth in an already stout defense, particularly at the CB position.

He played a great game. I noticed him play well in preseason. I think he has some skills that could develop down the road. Hope for the best.

CBs are gonna be good next year! Smith, Webb, Carr, Williams, Gorrer, Brown. Wow. We're gonna have a solid CB group next year.

I think it's too early to call Gorrer "legit", but he has the potential to be "legit". Before someone becomes legit they need to show consistency as a starter. Consistency is the name of the game, especially for defensive backs.

Hey, look at that. We agree! :)

You cant assign a "legit" tag this early on any player. I will say I liked his role last night against Holmes as the "Ravens Killer Killer".

Personally I love it. When Ray was in his prime glory days, when he was an unstoppable force he was constantly in guys faces almost every play letting them know what was up. That whole 2000 defense was the biggest crap talking defense ever it seemed like. I loved it. Beat the hell out of the guy in front of you, let him know you know you did it, and then do it all over again the next play.

I don't see him going back to PS because if he does another team will swipe him. He will stay up on the team because he is taking Foxworth's IR spot. I just don't see him being activated on certain games, thats all. Love the potential!

Also, unrelated but do you think Webb or Cary will be demoted when Jimmy gets back? IMO, 2 WR sets would have Jimmy and Webby out there and with 3 receivers I think Cary would take Webbs spot and webb would kick inside and play the slot receiver.
I dont think Webb or Cary will get demoted lol. Jimmy Smith is gonna have to re earn that spot after the way these two have been playing.

And about the trash talking, i think there's a difference from trash talking and being fired up. I think our guys are fired up. It's truely trash talking when you even do it off the field, but the Ravens are classy off the field. But football, ESPECIALLY as a defender, intimidation is just as important as technique. Everyone does it differently, but all great defenders intimidate, they have to.

I dont care either way about smack talk on the field. I like a guy like Flacco just as much as I like a guy like Bart Scott, as long as they get the job done.

And I definitely do not think it's his job to lose. Cary may not exactly be lighting it up, but I think he'll be a very good #2 when The Jimmy comes back. Cary, Carr and Webb should fight it out for #2....those four guys make for a heck of a CB crew. But I'd like to keep a spot on the team for Gorrer and Chykie just to see what they've got.

Looks good to me. It's hard to see a place for him on the active roster after Jimmy comes back. But heck, that's a great issue to have (too many good corners for a roster). The depth we have is great and we are always one injury away from utilizing him again *knock on wood*

I mentioned it before, but I wonder if The Jimmy will end up taking 24 from Fox once he leaves for good. I get the impression that Jimmy isn't happy with 22. I personally think it would look better on him (a jersey number fitting of a shutdown corner).

I'm definitely encouraged by how he played, but it was a small sample size and also at a point in the game when you knew it was all pass from that point on. Let's see some more before we declare him a 3rd corner. Once Jimmy comes back following the bye, we have him, Webb, Cary and Carr at CB, that's awesome

Gorrer is a player that has confidence . I like corners with that save FRANK WALKER .
Is he still around ?
Yeah, he made an awesome deflection on a game saving TD in the 4th quarter. He's better than you guys give him credit for but I guess it's cool to hate on the dude.
About Gorrer,I called that he should have been on the 53 roster from the start. He performed better than Foxworth and Chykie

Walker was a pass interference machine . The joke around the office was that he should keep a yellow fllag in his back
pocket to throw himself after each throw his way .

webb is easily our best cb right now.. The dude is tearing it up.... Once jimmy is healthy it'll still be cary n webb for awhile.. Mix in carr and once jimmy gets worked in it'll be jimmy n cary on the outside with webb blitzing every down lol...
I swear pagano always has either reed or webb at the los.. Seems like every play ha

Uh, no! Even the latest Walker sighting was a holding penalty in the endzone to give Detroit a fresh set of downs. They then capped off the biggest comeback in franchise history on Sunday partly thanks to Mr. Walker. So.....No, he sucks!

Yes although Gorrer had a great game I couldn't agree more with holding off on the "legit" tag. The pass rush made life easy on the secondary against Mark Sanchez and the Jets. Sanchez had very little time if any to find a receiver and make a good pass. And the receivers had very little time to let their routes develop.

Good day for Gorrer but lets see how his coverage is when the other team's O-Line isn't swiss cheese. :) I'm pulling for him.

I feel ya. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened though. Kind of like what happened with Cody switching his number.

It would be cool if he kept 22, sort of forge his own path and make 22 synonymous with him throughout the league (like Revis is with 24, or Manning with 18). Samuel is a scrub anyway lol

That was the 60s. EVERY athlete has trash talked. I've seen Ed, Ray, Suggs, Anquan, ect do it. It's not unsportsmanlike, its part of the game.

This. Sanchez's performance made playing corner easy for our guys this game. He didn't have time to blink, let alone scan the field for an open receiver.

Whats your point here? It was football in the 1960s too, was it not? If it's such a "part of the game", why was it so rare to talk trash in the 1950s-70s?

And being an athlete and a player, I don't talk trash. I let my play do the talkin. :)

..... because these athletes use harmless trash talking to get in other players heads and pump them selves up. All the latest greats of athletes that broke records of other athletes from the generations before them would hype themselves up with that competitive trash talking. From Michael Jordan to Mike Tyson, to Ray Lewis to Prime Time himself. There are very few exceptions (Micheal Irving, Barry Sanders etc.)

This guy knows whats up, give them time before we start annointing shut down corners. It was the same thing with Cary Williams, we all saw flashes and now he's had a lot of game time he's struggling, allowing a large percentage of catches.
