Danny Gorrer - Legit?

62 posts in this topic

During the game against the Jets, at one point in the second half they attacked Gorrer on 3 straight plays. The first two his coverage was perfect and broke up the passes. On the third he almost intercepted the ball. On several plays he was matched up in man isolation with Santonio Holmes, the "raven killer," and came out on top.

Whether it was just one game, or that's just a small sign of how good this kid can be it was a very impressive performance. Only time will tell for sure, but what do you think?

Did he earn a role in the nickle and dime packages or should he slide back down to the PS when Carr and Smith are healthy? My opinion is it's his spot to lose after a game like that.

I don't see him going back to PS because if he does another team will swipe him. He will stay up on the team because he is taking Foxworth's IR spot. I just don't see him being activated on certain games, thats all. Love the potential!

Also, unrelated but do you think Webb or Cary will be demoted when Jimmy gets back? IMO, 2 WR sets would have Jimmy and Webby out there and with 3 receivers I think Cary would take Webbs spot and webb would kick inside and play the slot receiver.

I disagree. Yes he had a great game, but Carr and Smith had played games before that were much better than today's. I don't think that one good game from a former practice squadder should bump off our first round pick and our most consistent corner last year.

He should be able to see more playing time at least.

The reason I think it's his to lose is because as a coach you want your players to think that performing at a high level will earn yourself time. If Smith and Carr are better they will earn it back no problem during the week of practice or during the game, and Gorrer will understand that he lost it. I think if you just put Carr and Smith right back in front Gorrer has to think there's an impenetrable wall in front him on the depth chart.

No matter what, guys stepping up and creating this competition is only a good thing for this defense and team in general. With guys like Gorrer, Laquan, McPhee and Kruger really stepping up when called upon, we're gonna be tough to beat.

Im just not a fan of granting positions based on reputation or past performance. I think each week should be a competition to start and the guys playing best get the spot. Keeps everyone focused and on their game, and gives the guys lower on the depth chart something to fight for and be motivated about.

I love the way he stepped up in a game where I thought our depleted secondary would struggle. Although I think when Carr and Jimmy get back he will be our 5th corner due to the talent ahead of him.

Gorrer is gonna take Foxworth spot as the 5th DB. The good thing is that we have a lot of talent and depth. We also got some good size with Jimmy, Cary and Danny being 6 feet and taller.

You took the words right out of my mouth. And I gotta say Cary was doing quite a bit of trash talking everytime they'd attack him and he'd break it up. I like it.

I love his confidence and how he was getting in peoples' faces when he did something. Hoping for the best for this kid
I do not like that. Don't like talking on the field. Don't talk trash, let your play do the talking for ya. Gettin in people's faces is highly unclassy. Back to the huddle kid.

I don't think it's his spot to lose either. He had a good game, but you don't win a starting spot by doing good one game. You need to develop a consistency to keep a starting role.

All that being said, he played a good game, and should be worked into the nickel and dime packages more. He's got a bright future. I'm liking our young CB's more and more every game.

Did you used to watch Ray Lewis when he was younger? He would ALWAYS get in your face when he did something. Who cares about class, this is the NFL. He's building some condifence. Not only that, but he's getting in your head. It seemed to work for him last night.

Thank you, but to each their own I suppose. I like the intimidation factor, especially to gain confidence in such a young player.

I'm with you. I don't mind celebrating plays made. But trash talking is a waste to me. Just like you said, make your play speak for you. I prefer class over boasting. Part of the reason why I love guys like Andre Johnson (yes I know about the Finnegan incident, but that was from the classless Cortland).

Unfortunately, I was a little too young to see and appreciate Ray's glory days. However, the fact that he did it does not make it right or good.

Lets your play do the talking. Don't feed your ego too much. Talking trash is trashy imo.

Yea! He was always trash talking. Now he'll help players up and laugh with his buddies on the opposing teams, but nobody can dispute the fact that Ray got in your face when he first entered the league. I don't mind the talking.

Exactly. Andre is one of my favorite players, solely due to the fact that he doesn't talk trash. Let the play do the talkin...

I think having confidence is key to success in football. You need to have a certain swagger. But you don't need to talk trash to feed that swagger. Like Andre.

Gorrer is a player that has confidence . I like corners with that save FRANK WALKER .
Is he still around ?
Sure is. He was even playing for the Cowboys yesterday. Think he got schooled by Calvin Johnson on a play.

He was called for a PI which gave the Lions some life as well haha. Not only that, but Hauschka missed the game winner in Seattle too! Can't believe we had both on the same team at the same time.

For yall that don't like the trash talking Cary did Plaxico was the one that started it when he grab Cary face mask and tried to take his Damn helmet off. Cary had all the right to get pump up and talk trash to Plaxico. The thing I like about it is that Cary never back down and stuck it to him the rest of the game. Yall should be happy that Cary is show some confidents.. U better be confident playing on our team with Ray and Reed.

I honestly could care less if they trash talked as long as they back it up.. i don't think saying something is going to completely ruin your image.
Its really not a big deal, everyone does it.

Trash talking has been part of this game since the BEGINNING. Geez. This game has a psychological aspect to it as well.
