Flacco's Scrambling Ability

23 posts in this topic

I am impressed with Flacco's growing ability to scramble and make plays. Flacco is generally awkward. You know this, I know this. His scambling therefore seems awkward, and sometimes it makes you scream "JUST THROW IT AWAY JOE!" whenever he leaves the pocket.

But while I was at the game, he made a few clutch plays, accuate, on the move, and as always, awkward, BUT he did a great job.

There were also bad scrambling plays, yes, but I like Flacco's progression from year to year in this category.

I agree he made some Big Ben-esque play extensions, but a lot of times he had opportunities to tuck and run or throw the ball away that he didn't utilize. I'd personally like him to take more of those opportunities. But he was just a bit off today, as were our receivers. The 10 passes that he did complete were pretty though

Thank God for our D last night and for little Ray. If we had been playing a better run defence and had to air the ball out all night we would have been in big trouble. No completions in the 2nd and 3rd because of short and long passes and still managed to win large?? Thats a crazy string of luck I don't want to keep riding. I think Joe is taking too much time running around like Ben trying to make heroic throws. He needs to tuck that ball in tight when he commits to running with it. And long bombs aren't the answer when the game is close (before Webbs int. TD). I'm glad he's come out of his shell and is showing some arm but he's got to be quicker with the throws and smarter when he realizes he has no options. Just sayin. Love you Joe GO RAVENS!!!

Im kinda impressed too but Flacco has got to learn how to stay in the pocket or just learn to take a step side to side or forward and backwards. He was jumping the Gun too early on alot of the plays honestly. There were times that he started scrambling when he clearly had time to throw. He atleast had a full 2 seconds before he would have even gotten touched on multiple plays.

And can someone please explain to me , why all of the sudden we changed up the game plan when it was clearly working, The Jets didnt adjust that quickly to make that much of a difference.

Side note= Im happy with running the ball but if running up the middle isnt working then what is the problem with running it up the right or Left (especially on the left). Or atleast some screen pass to Rice. The screens were working perfectly in the first quarter, but it seemed the longer Joe was in the game. The more he was shook, If he plans on doing this the rest of the season then he needs to practice more on the run. (he did make a few good passes on the run, ill give him that but like i said alot of him rushing was his own fault because he thought he was getting pressure every snap and that clearly was not the case). LOL maybe he needs to practice with T.Taylor and get some advice throwing on the run.

Hilarious, that's exactly what I do, too. Of course, he made me eat my words when he converted one of them for a first down. He definitely has gotten better and avoiding pressure and throwing it away but there's still work to be done.

he really scares me when he scrambles but he did do a very good job on some plays, however when he sees a man untouched running after him protect the ball. Imagine if ladarius doesnt come up big and the jets get a touchdown there and are only down by 3, it turns into a completely different game. Also if you watched the game we never really ran up the middle that much. we ran a lot of stretch plays meant to utilize the athleticism of our offensive line in order to get rice to the outside so in that respect it seems the offense has made huge strides from last year.

In defense of JOe, the long pass the Dickson was clearly pass interference. The replay clearly showed that the corner or safety grabbed and impeded Dickson for making a real play on the ball. Same exact thing with the Smith against Revis on the sideline. Revis got burned and then started to grab and tug at him for about 15 yards. Right in front of the ref. It was at minimum illegal contact if not pass interference. But it was a rookie versus Revis and the refs ar going to give the proven commodoties the benefit of the doubt.

See topics like this one, make realist into haters. Flacco had quite a few missed opportunities to scramble for decent yards last night and missed everyone. I think you are referring to his mechanics behind the line of scrimmage. To avoid pressure. Scrambling not at all, but he can do it that's why im scratching my head. He actually can run a little bit, just wish he would learn to take what the defense gives you.

That's what I was wondering. The only time he tried to scramble, he hesitated a lot and ended up fumbling the ball. Joe needs to just take off some times instead of throwing the ball away. Put it this way - last game he ran 8 times. That's 8 fewer throwaways and about 20 extra run yards.
