Flacco In Primetime

29 posts in this topic

When was Flacco's last good primetime game? Or, anything better than decent? I always cringe for Flacco when he has a bad primetime game. He seems to have so many of them that feature him with the deer-in-head-lights-mouth-breather look after he dumps the ball off to Rice for the 12th time or overthrows his receivers and then BAM, he's out of ideas.

He could have hooked up with Torrey Smith for long touchdowns twice if he didn't overthrow/underthrow him twice, respectively. That would have looked good. Also, Ed Dickson had 4 drops tonight. Difficult catches, but drops nonetheless. And Revis was shutting down his man all the time, be it Boldin or Torrey.

Cromartie did not have as good of coverage as Collinsworth (who knows so little and talks so much) commentated on, but Collinsworth is a moron. Whatever he says, know the opposite is true. Anyway, the Ravens could have used extra receivers this game, like Lee Evans.

I think Tandon Doss should have gotten more reps. What's with him?

He better get used to it. We have Jax, @Pittsburgh, 49ers on Turkey Day, and the San Diego all under the lights.

Not counting the KC playoff game, perhaps the MNF game against the Texans? The Thursday night game in Atlanta? That's just off the top of my head and from last season.

Agreed Romo Ravens. And I think the reason Doss didn't get more reps is he didn't just come off a game where he had three touchdowns. I completely agree with you about Collinsworth, although he did have some funny one liners like "Try covering me from your back" talking about Rice decleating that one guy just before notching a catch for a first down

I don't remember him doing so good at Houston, and he played badly in the first half of the Falcons game, but I'll just think about that 4th quarter comeback, lol.

SNF vs the Steelers in 09. He was also decent imo at Pittsburgh his rookie season on MNF, his first ever road game and primetime game.

He struggled at points, but his numbers overall in both games were pretty solid.

107.5 QB rating in Houston, 66.7% completion, and 2 TDs. It was, of course, overshadowed by Houston scoring 21 unanswered points on us but he played well.

He was great IMO considered all that you just said. 191 yds, 1 TD, 0 picks is pretty good for a rookie in his first road game against that Steelers defense. They were phenomenal in 2008.

The main blemish was the fumble that led to the Woodley TD. That game, to this day, still makes me mad.

Me too. Up 13-3 at halftime and lost by a field goal in OT. Typical us vs. Pittsburgh until 2011.

My mistake. All I really remember from that game is Mason not being able to haul in that long pass, Boldin being shutdown for most of the night, David Reed doing a backflip into the end zone, almost turning it off because the Texans came back and I was convinced they were about to win and Josh Wilson intercepting the pass to win the game in overtime.

So as you could imagine, most of that completely overshadowed Flacco's performance lol. That was a long night.

That was a long night. I stayed up for it though. And remembered talking about it with my coworkers the next day as well. They were all Redskins fans.

I was pretty upset, but also happy with what Joe showed. I was more upset at the BS loss to the Titans the next week.

An offense on the rise that is scary enough to win a Super Bowl when everybody gets on the same page.

The point I was trying to make was let people think what they want. We know we have an offense that can take us where we want to go. We don't have to be like the Pats, Packers, or Saints.

And stop yelling at me. I don't like it haha.

no we don't have to be like the Packers, Patriots, Colts or Saints and that is not what i was implying by mentioning them. but the reality is that when you think about their offenses...they are scary and can consistently and confidently move the chains and light the score board up at times (not by merely settling for FGs as the Ravens offense does). the reality is that the Ravens offense is nowhere near being potent like the above mentioned teams. i highly doubt that NFL teams "fear" the Ravens offense but they have much respect for the defense.

We lit up the score board and scored again and again last week. I don't know about you, but this was a defensive game. This is what games were like back in the 50s and 60s. This was expected. It was all defense, before the rule changes to facilitate scoring. All you young kids want scoring and more scoring because it's exciting.

The stat line of 10/30, 160 yards, 0 td, 1 int was typical back in those days. Thankfully Sanchez looked much worse than Flacco.

It's just that I cringe for Flacco. He's a great guy and a great QB, but when it comes to primetime the nation doesn't get that same image. So there's a dissonance. My friend and I liken it to having a friend who is a great guy, but he freezes up or gets super awkward around women. So those girls just think he's this awkward weirdo when in reality he's a pretty cool and great guy.

One of these days, Flacco will get it together. But if it's a great defense and on primetime, I cringe. And the Chiefs playoff game wasn't a night time game. It wasn't primetime. I was at the Texans game. I wouldn't call any of Flacco's losses to the Steelers "good" games. I think he had "bad" games in every single one.

I have said this before, and I will say it again. I just think something get's a little lost in translation when the game of football starts getting dissected into the tiniest of parts. Over-all individual performances hinge on so many various circumstantial situations. I will take you back to Flacco's performance against the Pats in the play-offs in Foxborough a few years back. You'll remember the 80ish yard TD run that Ray Rice ran from the first play from scrimmage that basically took the ball out of Flacco's hands. Did we win that game in-spite of the QB play, or did the game plan become tailored that way as a reaction to the Pats inability to stop the run?

In the end, what more really matters than winning the game? Joe's a good person, and a good player with plenty of upside. Flacco and Rice are also babies in football years. So I am sure there are games Joe will win for us, and there will be games where the defense bails us out. In the end, I am just happy with the win no matter how it happened.

Again, I also don't think there is anything wrong with rooting for Joe and the offense to play well. They will learn from any mistakes they make, and hopefully get better results the next time they play.

think about this. this defense is starting to look like the 2000 edition but faster. all that and a qb twice as good as trent dilfer. flacco has already surpassed dilfers td total for the year.

If Flacco keeps playing like this, he has no shot at winning the popularity contest (pro-bowl). It's no wonder most fans have such a low opinion of him when he plays like this in front of most of them.

About 99% of Quarterbacks have not done this well in their 4th year. That includes Brady and Manning and Big Ben, especially if we're considering Superbowls as team accomplishments. On an individual level; Flacco is well ahead of the curve. Everyone feels like Flacco is the kid with a silver spoon up his [profanity deleted], the Quarterback that got drafted to the one team with everything but a Quarterback, he's got a great defense and now with Rice a great runningback who's so great at YAC yardage.

Peyton Manning has had games like this his 4th year in the league, too. That was 2002, and back then Manning had more detractors than Flacco does now. Seriously. Manning was seen then as a guy without the right stuff who would never be great. Kind of like a Tony Romo.

Anyway, his post game interview he did a good job at taking credit for poor play, despite the fact that Ed Dickson dropped 4 passes which hit him in the hands. I still think that if he didn't overthrow Torrey Smith on one play or if he didn't underthrow him on another then the offense would have been in a whole nother groove. There were some missed chances there. Even another Torrey Smith touchdown pass that went back shoulder (timing issue) Joe threw one place and Torrey was a head of it so he could only get one hand on it, reaching backwards. Flacco could have had a big game out there yesterday, but as we all know...

...it's a game of inches.

I guess he overthrew him so he could put it in a place "only Torrey can get it." Sometimes Joe plays too conservatively, and he ends up looking worse because he's not a Rex Grossman. He's the anti-Rex Grossman.
