Dropped Passes

14 posts in this topic

Dickson had 4 or 5 drops, Torrey had 1 or 2, and it is a problem. We essentially have all young guys at offensive skill positions, so this sort of thing should be accepted for right now, but it could become a problem later on.

But don't overblow it, at best Flacco still would be rocking a completion percentage around 45% today had those balls been caught.

It was awful today and it certainly did not help Flacco's case either. Now that we have a bye, hopefully that'll get straightened out.

I am not giving anybody a free pass, but I believe alot is attributed to chemistry. I watched NFL network say the onlt consistent QB in the league is Aaron Rodgers, thats no mistake. He has put in his time with his entire offense. They know what each other are doing. I saw a lot of miscues. Our offense has been different for the last 4 years. I think we have gotten to a good point where we havea good foundation. We will progress throughout the season and be even better next season

Sure, passes were dropped, throws were missed, mistakes were made. Flacco certainly could have had a better stat line.. thats how it goes sometimes.

Dickson dropped some good ball going his way, but about Torrey, Flacco overthrew him and behind him; totally not his fault.

My problems with Torrey's performance were when he obviously ran a wrong route and when he failed to line up correctly and Joe had to call a Time Out. This stuff happens with rookies, which is why Head Coaches hate putting them on the field. Torrey will get better and so will the offense.

I have no idea what Dickson's problem was. He looked like he couldn't catch a cold out there, but we've seen him play better. Let's hope it was just an off night and won't happen again.

I counted exactly 4 passes which hit Ed Dickson in the hands someway and that he dropped. Some of them were difficult, off balance, way up in the air, or going out of bounds, but they hit him in both hands.

I counted 0 drops for Torrey Smith, but one miscommunication (and he was open). Joe threw one place, Cromartie was about 10 yards off of Torrey and that place Joe threw was not where Torrey was going. Also, there were 4 other targets to Torrey that were off cue. When a QB overthrows a receiver deep, he's trying to throw it where only he can get it. Joe didn't want to get picked by Revis, so he overthrew Torrey Smith just a tad. Then he didn't want to get picked by Cromartie and overthrew Torrey despite Torrey being completely behind him. Then he was off balance and underthrew Torrey against Eric Smtih (the [profanity deleted] safety!) and that could have been a touchdown but Smith got his hands up between Torrey's and knocked it away. Finally, there was that route in the endzone where Joe lasered one about a step behind Torrey, it went through the defenders hands, but on Torrey's back hip and he could only get a single hand on it stretching back. Joe puts that ball a foot forward, or Torrey Smith goes a little slower, and that's a great touchdown. Ultimately, they don't have timing down just yet. And Joe still doesn't know how fast Torrey is or how he runs his routes (Torrey goes like 75%, and then cuts and goes 100%).

Joe needs to give Torrey a route, put a blindfold on and spend 8 hours throwing the ball to Torrey Smith. That's what Manning used to do with Harrison and then with Wayne. He used to spend 8 hours, AFTER PRACTICES with them throughout the week.

Torre had Revis beat on one play but Flacco overthrew him...He would have been gone.

For every pass he dropped, he had just as many tough catches yesterday. As much as we would love for him to catch them all, it ain't gonna happen.

The one Drop Dickson had made me furious. It was on 3rd down and he had the ball as he was turning to hit the turf. He pulled his arm off the ball to brace himself and the ball came out. There is no excuse whatsoever for that. You pull the ball in and hit the ground like a man.

Sad thing is he is more likley to get injured trying to catchhimself then just sliding on the turf. That was a big 3rd down and he blew it. After those 2 drops they should have went right to Pitta.

How can you possibly 'overblow' 5 - 7 dropped passes?? That is a ridiculous amount, especially when one of those passes (Torrey) was a TD.
