The Final Score Is Deceiving...

62 posts in this topic

Sure, people see that the Ravens scored 34 points this week. 37 last week. and 35 points in Week 1.

But check this out :

For the 2nd straight week, the Ravens offense scores 0 touchdowns after the first quarter.

For the 3rd straight week, the Ravens offense scores 0 touchdowns after halftime.

And for the 4th straight week(every single game this season), the Ravens offense has 0 TDs in the 4th quarter.

Make of it what you will. The team is 3-1. They've supposedly played at least two of the better teams in the league(both in Baltimore), but lost to Tennessee. I guess the good news is that most of the remaining games that are considered good opponents are also at home(Houston, Indianapolis). But there is still that huge game in Pittsburgh, that trip to San Diego, and plenty of "mediocre" or "bad" teams for the Ravens to not show up against.

All I know is, going into the playoffs, I'd like my offense to be able to score in the 2nd half. And especially in the 4th quarter if needed.

You said it yourself, we won the game, that's whats important now. We go into bye week, get our starters back, and put in work.

We're ahead by so much in the 4th quarter that we don't need to score touchdowns...
By that point in 3 of the last 4 games, we are already in clock management/kneel down mode.
What it does show is that the team comes out on fire early, an issue we've had in the past.

Yes, it's deceiving because it should have been similar to the St. Louis game. If it wasn't for a flukey kickoff return and Flacco not reading the LB and Ray stopping mid-route, the Jets would have only put up three points. I'll take a bad offensive performance if it means 3-1 and being atop the division. Obviously some things have to change on offense, but I bet they will.

Unless flacco passes for 300yds n 4TD's every game...n rice runs for 100 everygame n a WR has 5 or more catches for a 100 y'all r not happy...smh...we won 3 games in blowout form n people still ain't happy lmao...unless every win is perfect people don't like it

The game wasn't close but the fact is that we are still a defensive team. What we are seeing is how good the D can be if we give it leads. But Joe and the offense still haven't learned to turn in a full game of outstanding play consistently. It also bothers me that Cam just doesn't want to establish the run. Isn't that why we got Vonta Leach and why we resigned Yanda? Establish the run a little more and Joe will have better passing lanes. Then come back to the run to end the game. Ray Rice and Ricky Williams should have more rushing attempts and yards by now. Joe isn't completing 55 % of his passes. I like the aggression with us going deep but you have to do the other things around it to keep the deep game open. We have to run and pass underneath some also. The run is where I think we are leaving a lot on the table.

Really, the score of this game should have been worse. It could have been 48 - 10 easy if the offense plays better.

Just can't please some people how is the score deceiving? The last time I check the defense is part of the team also. There will be times d will carry the o and vice versa. I don't get why people would have such a ominous tone. Flacco had a bad game it happens the ravens are 3-1 top of the AFC north and still improving.

The Titans look like an awesome team.

Matt Hasselbeck will likely be the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year. Tennessee is exactly what he needed (the new offense, the O-line, the receivers, the running game especially) and he is exactly what Tennessee needed. Plus, that defense is on fire. They're really playing great and I could see them potentially winning the division despite everyone being very high on the Houston Texans. If not for the Chargers and Jets, I could see them getting to the playoffs on the two wildcard slots.

We'll have to see, but the Colts are going to have a very high draft pick (why did you call them a good team?!?) and the Titans are probably going to be a playoff team this year. It doesn't matter if this wasn't true last year. We lost to a very good team in the Titans 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, I no longer think Flacco will be an elite QB. I think he's fair to good but not elite..no I'm not a Flacco hater, I look at what's really happening and edreedfromtheu makes a valid point. Since the Pittsburg game, the offense has shown little, Flacco has shown little. I was hoping it was going to be a break out year for him but when you look at the numbers...they tell the story.
I'm glad to go into the break at 3-1 for sure, but I'll be looking and hoping for a better offense on the other side.

The common denominator is that we were dominating all of those games. There was no need to score TDs (and Flacco actually did throw a TD pass to Boldin in the 4th that was called back, and Boldin dropped one last week). Until we actually have a close win, these stats are meaningless.

The exception was Tenn, but they beat us in all phases, not just offense.

Tonight, as I sat in the stands, I thought of something....

If you've ever seen a girl (or guy) across a bar - and from a distance everything looks great, but when you check things out up close, it's not exactly what you were expecting...

Tonight the Defense played very well - the offense had a hiccup (which will happen - especially when playing against a good defense.) Sitting in the stands, there were moments of pure joy - and moments of feeling a little funky. Times when we were winning by a decent amount, but there was that possibility of the score swinging the other way.... Felt like a win, and at times, felt a bit mediocre

Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not looking for perfection on every play - but I think a lot of the people I was sitting near were feeling the same thing....extreme happiness - with a side order of hesitation.....

I am thrilled we are leading our division - and what I saw tonight gives me some great hope that we can accomplish so much. We will grow, learn and do better. Go RAVENS!!

The Titans are pretty legit, especially when CJ gets his swagger back. The way Pitt and the Jets are looking, I could certainly see the Titans making wild-card (but probably not).

Yea I get it we do have a pretty frustrating offense at times but I have confidence that they will find their way.

If you take your time to google search Indianapolis Colts message boards from 2002 you'll find Indianapolis Colts fans who siad the exact same things about a guy named Peyton Manning.

Flacco is in his fourth year. Last year he was rated in the top 10. Calm down. He threw for 3 touchdowns in the 1st quarter last game, and played against a defensive coordinator, defensive captain and wide receiver that know Cam Cameron's offense better than anyone else in the National Football League, one of the top defenses led by former Ravens who practiced and training camped and practiced every day of every week against Flacco's offense.

Plus, Mason probably exposed every thing he could to Rex about our offense. I don't expect big things offensively against the Jets. That's a game where the defenses go at it to show whose best in a sibling rivalry.

Well, we really don't know if we can't score in the 4th, we haven't needed to. Last night, we just ran the ball and ran the clock out.

I'm convinced that we could score if we needed to, but aside from Tennessee, the situation hasn't presented itself, and it looks like Tennessee might've been the fluke of the year for us. The offense is fine fellas.

I really don't get you.....you hate everything Ravens during the games (especially Flacco) and then continue to post intelligent things during the week. What gives?

Well I'll agree the final score is deceiving because this should have be a game similar to last year... 10-9, or 6-3, 10-6... Neither offense did much against the defenses although early in the game it appeared we would move the ball easily but the Jets began doing more zone stunts upfront, I was surprise how often revis was on Smith....

I'm absolutely elated that I can't even read the first post of this thread, because it's almost one hundred percent guaranteed some sort of whiny post about how the Ravens will never get it done in the playoffs with their offense playing like this and probably doesn't even mention that we won.

I don't care if we don't score in the 4th qtr, just as long as we run that ball to (rest the defense and kill some game clock) so that we don't blow the 4th qtr leads like last season....

I'm sure even Flacco played a game like Rodgers had yesterday somebody on here would still say well heck he had 4 passing TDs shoulda been 5, and he scrambled too slow on that one play... It's always something lol

Those statistics are telling, and a bit disturbing, but I know that will change once everyone gets on the same page. This offense is too young and inexperienced to expect greatness after a mere 4 weeks. Be thankful that we have such a great defense that is closing out games, unlike last season! I just hope the offense doesn't get lackadaisical and expect the D to bail them out week in and week out.

Thank God for our D last night and for little Ray. If we had been playing a better run defence and had to air the ball out all night we would have been in big trouble. No completions in the 2nd and 3rd because of short and long passes and still managed to win large?? Thats a crazy string of luck I don't want to keep riding. I think Joe is taking too much time running around like Ben trying to make heroic throws. He needs to tuck that ball in tight when he commits to running with it. And long bombs aren't the answer when the game is close (before Webbs int. TD). I'm glad he's come out of his shell and is showing some arm but he's got to be quicker with the throws and smarter when he realizes he has no options. Just sayin. Love you Joe GO RAVENS!!!
