Injuries At CB Position

35 posts in this topic

I watch a presser video yesterday of Harbaugh talking about the injuries at CB. He was asked if the Ravens would bring in someone to help the position. He stated the with Gorrer and Brown he felt ok but he also said if they needed to the he would be willing to do so depending on who was out there. So can we discuss a possible pick up in free agency or trade. Who would you like and who would we be be able to get? I would like to see us pick up Samuels from the Eagles, however that's probably not going to happen. So what do you think?

Foxy is out for the year so that leaves Cary, Webb, Carr, Jimmy, Chykie and Gorrer. I'm fine with the first 4 but the jury is out on the final 2. Cary and Webb are improving game by game, Carr is reliable and once Jimmy is back he may be our best corner. If they do bring in help I definitely don't want Samuels. The Eagles probably don't want to trade him, and even if they did the asking price would be way too steep for my tastes, and his contract price would be rather high as well. We don't need a #1 corner anyway, solid depth if anything. And I'm sure there's another Josh Wilson out there.

Agreed we dont need an absolute shut down corner because chances are Jimmy will become that. Also player trades are very rare and i doubt ozzie would give up a bunch of draft picks just to get samuel this year when Jimmy is coming back in a week or 2 and the way our front 7 is playing. The cornerbacks still in free agency are not very enticing and out of any of them i would probably only want the ravens to go after a guy like tye hill who has some experience but is still young and was a first round pick coming out of college. While he may have struggled maybe the ravens can turn him around like they do so many players. He would provide more solid depth but would not be a game changer. Ellis hobbes could be another but we dont need another 5 foot 9 corner. One other guy we could look at could be courtney brown who has good size at 6 foot 1 but not a lot of experience, so probably not a guy who would help this year. I think we should stay where we are cuz another signing wont really help

Another signing wouldn't really hurt either. It really depends on who would be out there. I would like to see more of Pollard on the field with Reed.

If we can't sign a decent corner, I'd like to see Zibby and Pollard on the field at the same time for extra help in coverage. Zibby+Pollard> another bum CB.

I just no one else gets hurt at CB or we could be in trouble. Might have to just air it out on offense and try to out score everyone!

Isn't that the purpose for the offense? 'Try to outscore everyone'? Easily said than done.

I'm really worried for the Jets game from a CB standpoint right now to be honest. As of now Chris Carr is listed as questionable. If he doesn't go our CB's will be Cary Williams, Ladarius Webb, Chykie Brown, and Danny Gorrer. That is a serious problem, I do not feel comfortable at all putting Chykie Brown on Derrick Mason.

How are you guys not worried about this. Carr most likely won't play tomorrow and we have rookies as our back ups which means if Cary and Webb get injured we have to play Brown or Gorrer as starters against Plaxico, mason and that other guy we all know.

When someone that is very valuable goes down. It is a need for a panic. But hopefully we need to trust that Harbaugh knows what he is doing. As he does know how to win and pulls it off a lot.

Okay, let's hope for the best. On any given Sunday, the CB situation is good but not great. We need to get to Sanchez early and often. I hope that Torrey can continue to catch passes. This will open up the short passes to Rice, Boldin, and the TEs. Let's just hope that we can continue to run the ball and throw a few early TDs against the Jets, so that it doesn't matter when they burn our secondary a few times in the game. I see us winning 24 to 21.

I dont see how we didn't at least have a tryout or two this week of a CB. From what people were tweeting yesterday, (RavensInsider-Aaron Wilson) Carr re-aggrevated his hamstring and is "highly questionable". I think he won't play, leaving us with Williams, Webb, Brown, and Gorrer. I'm worried.

CB is our biggest weakness, and if we get no pressure on Sanchez, he's going to look like a God against us.

But I'm not mainly concerned with the Jets. I want to win this one, but it's not a must win. However, the CB situation HAS to be resolved when we see Houston.

Now everyone, pushing Webb into the slot... How 'bout that Danny Gorrer? A lot of pass rush to work with, but gave up nothing with several targets. Guy from our practice squad working against Holmes/Burress and he did great!

Danny Gorrer continued his strong play from pre-season. Granted, he was going against a hapless and scared Sanchez but, still, Holmes is one of the best receivers in the league and he was on him like glue.

After the bye, hopefully Smith and Carr are back and healthy

Really like how you brought this up, guys 6 feet giving us the potential to have 3 corners at 6 feet or taller with webb and brown at 5'11 and carr at 5 10. Im not positive but i think gorrer played at least a couple plays on santonio holmes and like you said gave up nothing. He looked decently physical and actually was pretty much step for step in coverage on every play he was in. Also how about cary williams for the most part locking down burress. He's still got huge strides to make if he wants to become a great corner but he's definitely on his way. Webb once again shows his ability and is getting back to his pre-injury form. Hopefully with smith back after the bye this secondary is going to look pretty scary. Also if this gorrer guy does start to emerge we could move carr in the slot and experiment with webb at safety on some plays we need extra coverage so basically double covering a guy like andre johnson or larry fitzgerald with 2 corners. love the outlook, but its all potential right now so need to see it actually pan out. Not calling gorrer good just saying he has potential and showed up when he needed to.
