I wouldn't call this news shocking, even though it probably should have happened a LONG time ago. I can't think of a GM worse at drafting. Or at being a GM. Or president. Or anything, anything at all.

I didn't think that was ever going to happen. It is a great move for the Lions organization, a first step in giving the fans some hope.

I couldn't believe when I heard he had invited Cedric Benson and Shaun Alexander to work out. Then he signs Rudi Johnson, when they have Kevin Smith in the backfield. It just reeks of mistakes.

Maybe Al Davis will hire him as the new Head Coach or GM, since nobody else is going to take those jobs.

All I can say is good riddance! It has pained me as a football fan to watch a team with so many talented players on the roster (mainly in the receiving area) to struggle so much under the ineptness of Matt Millen, now maybe they'll start playing to their talent level finally . . .

I'm so happy that they finally have chance to be a good team! Good luck to them, I'm a fan of Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson

imagine if they made the playoffs last year, they would probably hold onto him for another decade. maybe it was the best thing for them to miss the playoffs, not that its hard for them to do anyways :D

Agreed. Every year I had to ask myself, "Why does he still have a job?!?!"

All I'm waiting for is Al Davis to sell the Raiders or give up his control over the team, and all will be right in the NFL world outside of Baltimore.

It pains me to see how delusional Davis is in thinking he can match his success of the '70s and '80s, using the same exact approach today.

And, I feel sorry for the Raiders fans for having to put up with Davis' B.S.

This Yahoo article by Michael Silver pretty much says it best:
As Al Davis prepares to fire another coach . . . the loyal denizens of Raider Nation are being asked to believe, as always, that this is about an owner's obsession with victory.

It is, kind of, only the winning that Davis wants so desperately has nothing to do with what happens on the football field. He wants to beat Lane Kiffin . . . in a game of wills. He wants to beat down all his enemies: The city of Oakland, the county of Alameda, the NFL establishment that conspires against him, the officials, the media and the employees who dare do anything but kiss his aging butt.

He wants to win a never-ending game of Feel My Power; in this case, even if he has to sacrifice an entire football season to do it.
