College Wrs And Cbs

I think we can all agree, that next years draft will focus on adding depth to the secnodary, and finding a playmaking WR. It is also possible for us to add depth to the TE position.

I'm not the biggest college football watcher, so I was wondering if you guys could throw out a couple names of some guys to keep my eye on as the season progresses.

Who do you think the top 3 WRs, TEs, and CBs will be in next years draft class? Do you agree with me on the positions we need to draft?

That would be a somewhat correct assessment now. But who knows. Who are we going to lose in free agency? Who steps up? Who steps down? Injuries? The people we might need now, might not be the same at the end of the season.

Then you have prospects, The #1 guy on draft boards now, could be #50 at the end of the season.

We have this thread going to early in the season.

I understand everything you said and it makes perfect sense.

I was just curious of who some of the players to watch in their senior year before their seasons are almost over (when I usually start to look at them).

I didn't mean to give you a hard time. Here are some players to watch:

Michael Crabtree - WR - Texas Tech

Heyward-Bey - WR - Maryland
Jeremy Maclin - WR - Missouri
Vontae Davis - CB - Illinois
Malcom Jenkins - CB - Ohio State
Darius Butler - CB - UConn
Travis Beckum - TE - Wisconsin

A lot of these guys are not Seniors.

Thanks a lot, thats exactly what I was looking for :)

Jenkins decided to go back for his Senior year. He should be a top CB in the draft. It really depends on how well we do this year. If we make the playoffs we can probably kiss Crabtree and Jenkins Goodbye, unless we pull a trade to move up.

Here are some players I think can be great in the NFL:

CB:
Malcom Jenkins-Ohio State
Vontae Davis-Illinois
Victor "Macho" Harris-Virgina Tech

WR:
Demetrius Byrd-LSU
Darrius Heyward-Bey-Maryland
Michael Crabtree-Texas Tech

TE:
I think Chase Coffman from Missouri and Travis Beckhum from Wisconsin are the best TE

I'm up here in Happy Valley as you know (Saturday night White Out followed by Monday Night Football doesnt get much better then that!) Anyway, I don't see AJ coming out early he hasn't established himself as a top CB in the league yet but has the size and skill sets. And Vontae Davis will be in action on Saturday night as well so I'll keep a look out but I think Jenkins and Harris are two top CB choices and I agree that Jenkins may be gone by the time the Ravens pick if we continue our success. Without a doubt, first and foremost has to be the deep threat, tall, big play wide receiver. Absolute must have for this team barring any trades for one that needs to be the #1 draft choice for 2009.

Here is Scout.com's Top 5 for 2009 so far:

1. Percy Harvin, Florida (Junior)
2. Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech (3rd Year Sophomore)
3. Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland (Junior)
4. Brian Robiskie, Ohio State
5. Demetrius Byrd, LSU

1-3 are all fine with me but 4 and 5 are ranked much too high and aren't #1 receivers. I like the Heyward-Bey / MD connection but don't think of him as a big body receiver he is very thin

Definitely Heyward-Bey but Ill take Michael Crabtree any day over Bey. But lets not kid ourselves B B Ba Bey is a B B BA BEAST!!! And Crabtree is an even BIGGER BEAST!!

But there are also some dominating OL in the next draft so iono. Ill take CRABTREE in A hot a second. I'd even take him number 1 overall but I dont know how ozzie would trade out of the 32nd spot to get up to a top 10 pick, cuz thats where he's going. Bottom line Crabtree is a stud. And if somehow we could get that guy... :D

if the ravens do go for a "playmaker" wr, who will get cut next year? Clayton? Williams? Figurs? Mason? Smith? Plus they still have Wheelwright and Harper

I see where you are coming from, but to be completely honest, with three of our four starting LBs contracts up this year, (Ray, Suggs, and Bart Scott) I find that our most pressing need may be there there. In which case I would look at Aaron Curry at Wake Forest to be available late in the first round. I would say James Laurinaitis or Rey Maualuga, but I don't think our pick will be anywhere near high enough for us to grab one of them. Then again, you never know (not saying we do bad, saying that Ozzie is god of the draft.)

Maclin is a Sophomore so he is not even eligible in this upcoming draft, Crabtree is a redshirt Sophomore so he is eligible, but I think he may be a product of a pass-happy system, although I can't deny his immense skill... Malcolm Jenkins, right now, is the top CB on the board by far, but it's way too early to project his draft position at this point.

One of my favorite WRs is Brandon Tate from North Carolina, a 20 year old Senior. The man is a beast.

The Ravens will be too good this year to be high enough to draft Crabtree. They should be in just about the right position to draft Malcolm Jenkins(Ohio State) mid to later in the first round if he lasts that long.

Then if the Ravens are lucky enough, a very good possession receiver might be available at the top half of the second round, Demetrius Byrd(LSU). A receiver such as Byrd should open the deep ball up a bit more for Mason and Figurs.

Both are seniors, play at big time schools, and played on the biggest stages in college. Just my thoughts though.

After the second round, I don't know just yet.

The only reason I see Jenkins dropping a bit, is the number of extremely good linebackers, d-linemen, and o-linemen coming out. Not to mention the runners and maybe a QB that might sneak in there. Of course if Chris Wells comes out....

I'd be thrilled with Heyward-Bey and Macho Harris going 1 and 2 for the Ravens. Another name to look out for shooting up the draft boards is my boy Derrick Williams at PSU (and a Maryland boy) who is 6'1 runs a 4.3 and is a triple threat. I'm not sure the Ravens need him (Figurs is a poor man's Williams) but he will be one to watch out for.

The Williams Trio (could happen haha)

Roy Williams
Demetrius Williams
Derrick Williams

Top 3 Receivers:
1. Michael Crabtree Texas Tech
2. Jeremy Maclin Missouri
3.Percy Harvin Florida

I dont like Harvin very much, he is a good playmaker but he is injured alot every season. He is very elusive and probably will run the fastest 40 time of all the receivers but he is injury prone. Crabtree will probably be a top 3 pick so hopefully we wont be able to pick him.

Top 3 Corners
1. DJ Moore Vanderbilt
2.Alphonso Smith Wake forest
3.Vontae Davis Illinois

DJ Moore is the best playmaking defensive back i've seen in awhile. He is a excellent punt/kick returner also. Im not putting Malcom Jenkins up here because i think he is a little bit over rated. USC's wide receivers burned him badly. DJ Moore goes up against stiff competition every week in the SEC and prob. will be the best out of the bunch IMO.

There are 2 WR that are freshman this year that you should keep an eye on, these guys are probably the 2 best receivers I have seen play in a very long time.
1. AJ Green Georgia
2. Julio Jones Alabama

Those 2 guys are proto typical size and speed and are just absolutely amazing to watch.

Every one of them is going to be picked to pieces by the scouts, and anybody listed could see their stock rise or crash out.

As for size speed guys? we already have a bunch of them in the practice squad.

All will be revealed in time :P

Every that i see says Maclin is eligible for the draft. ESPN and a bunch of other sites say he is eligible for the upcoming draft, not sure if he was redshirted or what. Jenkins is way over rated and was exposed vs real WR's when they played USC.
