Where Did All The Flacco Haters Run Off To?

Yes he extends plays but at the same time the corners close the gap the recievers had at first and then Joe has to dump it off to Ray. Im not a Flacco basher Just monday morning Qb, I think Joe gets better each year.
there was one play late in the game where Boldin gained seperation early in his route, and Flacco didnt throw it to him until a DB picked him up.
Why that happened, I am not sure. Flacco was not looking Boldin's way early in that play, so I'm guessing Boldin wasn't the primary target that play.

But I want to say this about Flacco. My two knocks against him have been:
1. Making better pre-snap reads
2. Going through his progressions faster

I haven't seen enough to say that he has improved upon #1 above. But I see a BIG improvement in how quickly he makes his reads....especially the game against PIT, he was lightning fast.

Flacco is clearly playing at a higher level than he ever has..this looks like the year he makes the final jump from being 'very good' to 'elite'.

you're absolutely right about one thing ... I should have started this thread right after he pounded the Steelers, instead of waiting until he destroyed the Rams.

I assume by "looking great one week and terrible the next" you mean that Flacco will occassionaly have an off game. That is true as well, every QB in the league will have a few bad games each season.
All I'm saying is a " where's all the Flacco Supporters now" thread could've been made last week after the titans game.

The board after a Ravens victory and a good game by Flacco is laughable...we become the scariest team in the world with the most underrated talent...and then a game like last week comes and the board does a complete 180 and reality sets in.

I'm just trying to keep the board on the path of realism and not homerism...it was the Rams..I can't take another 7 days of the Ravens are the best.. we should destroy the Jets 27-0...cause we've done all of that already tthis year

Joe Flacco, 2011

3 games, 3 starts
2 wins, 1 loss, 0 ties

59 / 109, 810 yards, 7 td, 2 int
6 sacks, 26 yards lost
9 rush, 29 yards, 0 td, 1 fumble lost

91.9 passer rating
54.1 completion pct
7.43 yards/attempt

If his performance continues along this same trajectory for the season, we're looking at a 16-game performance of:

16 games, 16 starts
11 wins, 5 losses, 0 ties

315 / 581, 4320 yards, 37 td, 11 int
32 sacks, 139 yards lost
48 rush, 155 yards, 0 td, 5 fumbles lost

I'd be pretty happy overall if this wound up coming to be the case.

So a thread like this was needed for Flacco destroying the Rams and one of the worst secondarys in the league.

It's even more surprising considering Flacco has shown he can look great one week and bad the next.

But ok...
Tom Brady threw 4 picks against the Bills yesterday. Doesn't mean he's a bad QB. People have off days... Flacco plays pretty darn well a VAST majority of the time. People just look for reasons to give him a hard time.

Oh, and after the first few games of this season... funny how the Matt Ryan vs Joe Flacco argument has finally subsided.

You might want to take the week off, then. We're fans; this is what we do. We can get plenty of "realism" from NFL Network, ESPN, and the Baltimore Sun. This is our forum to rave and rant.

By all means rave and rant away..

Huge differnece between letting individual games and performances cloud judgement and the perception that the win gives OUR team some sort of invincibility cloak for the next game.

Couldn't agree with this statement more, Joe is slow going through his progressions.

FFS. You can't make this stuff up. Did you see him moving around in the pocket, buying time, stepping up, running when there was nothing downfield? Some routes take time to open up. How the hell can you tell from just the TV angle anyway? Do you have game film? Or did you hear this on Madden and decide to share with us?

Yeah man, you are on point. And here's something else -- not only is Flacco great at extending plays, he also knows when to stand tall in the pocket and hold his ground. I think he actually puts a hair TOO much faith in his protection, considering how inconsistent the pass pro has been the last year.

I just want to hear what all these Flacco hating trolls have to say, since they are all over the place when Flacco isn't perfect. But, predictably, they are nowhere to be found. I'm sure they will resurface in a month or two, the next time Flacco has a bad game.

Just asking; did you let last week's performance cloud your judgment? Because we've blown out two teams, one with a great defense, and Flacco has had a lot to do with it. But people seem to get more excited over the idea that all of their Flacco criticisms have been vindicated after he has one bad game (along with the whole team).

It's just so annoying. It's like people come on here to regurgitate what they heard from Merrill Hoge in Flacco's rookie year to sound like they know something. It's painfully obvious that Lee Evans was a big part of the problem against TN, but instead we get pseudo-analysis fan jibberish. It's like pulling the string on a talking doll sometimes, you don't know exactly what you're going to get but you know you've heard it before.

So apparently Joe Flacco had a good game yesterday. ESPN released their update for 2011 Week 3 QBR, and Joe is #1.

http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/27193/no-average-joe-for-week-3-total-qbr
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7020879/nfl-week-3-total-qbr-leaders

During Week 1, Joe was #5.
During Week 2, Joe was #29, dropping him down from #5 to #20 for the season.
During Week 3, Joe was #1, raising him from #20 to #11 for the season.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7020881/nfl-week-3-total-qbr-season-leaders

And just for comparison sake, Matt Ryan (since we all know comparisons between Matt & Joe are a favorite subject) is #24 for the season after 3 weeks, with a score of 40.5 versus Joe's 64.2.

Why do you ask for "Flacco haters" to post more?

1. It was the Rams.

2. It was the Rams with a ton of injuries.

3. All you're focusing on is the end-game stats, as usual. You completely ignore the numerous overthrows Flacco had. NEWSFLASH: Those end up mattering in games against better teams.

4. The offense scored all of their touchdowns in the 1st quarter. They scored no touchdowns the remaining 3 quarters. Not exactly consistent, is it?

5. You ASKED for this post. So don't go getting salty.

That "great defense" almost got beat by Indianapolis with Kerry Collins and Curtis Painter playing QB.

So after game 1...twas it not on this board that...our Defensive Coordinator was up for getting a head coaching job after 1 game lol..bc we beat the steelers the Titan game was open and shut...not to mention what our unstoppable front 7 was suppose to do to Matt Hasselbeck and their OL . Flacco finally snapped into it after 3 years and was a MVP candidate after one week lol.

And then came.......

Week 2

And the sky was falling...and that defensive coordinator was suspect now...and Flacco was back to that Flacco. And we were.back to not getting pressure and looking like we had the worst secondary in the league.. and half the things people said now looked somewhat silly

Fast forward to week 3..after a great showing against the mighty Rams...the board is right back to doing the same thing...

Torrey smith is now on pace to be the best receiver ever..Flacco is back to being the MVP. Defense is back to the old 2000 form.. and threads like this one which put a spotlight on Flacco and our players might have to be defended next Monday if...IF...IF...Flacco does what he did last week..and the TEAM plays poorly.

Vindicated after one bad game ! Lmao are u serious..Flacco supporters seem to forget that Joe has some of the worst playoff stats ever...but vindicate him bc he can put up 3 TD's in regular season games like yesterday...don't talk about vindication...lol

I think the Steelers offense is beating their own defense by giving the ball away. If they can get ball security under control on offense, their defense is not going to look so bad because their won't be as many points on the board. If not for turnovers (including a missed, very make-able field goal) the Steelers would have had that game handily.

Alright! Everyone's favorite Flacco hater in the house!!

*rolls out red carpet for our thread's VIP visitor*

Just curious, eddie .... how many TDs and INT did Indy throw for last night? And how many did Flacco drop on them?
Was our game against PIT ever close at any point in time, or were they thoroughly dominated? Likewise, did Indy thoroughly crush PIT or did they struggle to the final minute in their LOSS to PIT?

This week it will be back to us "getting no respect" by national media. We didn't see any of those threads last week but about 10 million of them week 1.

Would you like me to also focus on how, as usual, our WR failed to make critical plays (Boldin missing TWO chances at pulling in a TD, or LaQuan squandering a bomb that he should have pulled in, for example), or can we just call it even on the overthrows?
And hey, the final stats reflect the entire performance, rather than cherry picking certain plays to make your argument.

Maybe if Boldin would have pulled one of those two TDs in, that would not have been the case. But lets lynch Flacco for it anyway!!

No way. Flacco is terrible. I read it on here all the time. He's slow through his progressions, he doesn't step up into the pocket, he has no pocket awareness. You must be one of those guys who just watches football. You need to read more message boards like this one so you can find out how all this stuff really works

I think one of the greatest misconceptions in society is that being "negative" and being "realistic" are synonymous. Here's a great quote: "The optimist believes we live in the best of all worlds while the pessimist fears that this is true."

Similarly, there is a difference between being critical of Flacco in hopes that he will improve on his (considerable) success and declaring that he's not capable of taking us to the superbowl because of occasional poor play.

It is much easier to be a pessimist than to be an optimist, but nothing good ever comes easy.
