The Offensive System Controlling Us, Not Vice Versa......

10 posts in this topic

As we've already known Cam's scheme is composed of TE, FB, RB, and 2wr (Deep Threat and Possession), our system is now stalled due to Evans' injury. Harbaugh, Cam, and FO have been emphasized on deep threat so Cam's scheme can work like against week 1 Pittsburgh. If the other team respect our deep threat, we can open up alot of things in the middle and the backfield.

The problem is our sole dependence on Evans or (slow developed Torrey) can put our offense in abysmal. We have no backup system which can utilize what we have, so we can moving forward until we have healthy Evans back or surprising emerging deep threat Torrey.

We seem to let our system control us and put us in a one way successful offense.

Doss is not as fast as Evans or Torrey, but he's sure faster than Boldin cuz he's younger. We can send Doss deep, and let 2 TEs and Boldin working in the middle and short slants.

We need create more comeback routes and short yardage plays. If they play more zone, we can let our Wrs and TEs keep running around for open. If we put Torrey for deap threat, at least throw him the ball so he can try to catch, giving him a chance.

BTW, more short yardage completion can build Joe's early confidence.

Not having a faster downfield type receiver does somewhat hamper the effectiveness of an Air Coryell based offense. The way to counter this is to shift the focus towards our running game. If our running game is successful, it will draw the safeties closer to the LOS for run support and our receivers wouldn't need as much time to get behind them. It will also help get the CBs to bite on play-action fakes. We also have a couple of 6'4"+ TEs we can send downfield. They don't have to necessarily beat the DB, but Joe can just throw it up and they go get it. But when you lose a receiver like Evans in the Air Coryell, you need the OL to step up in his absence more than anything.

Cam does and has never used the Air Coryell offense. The Air Coryell is mid and deep WR's that play constantly in Deep threat. To make it work you need speed and mid- deep patterns. This is the first year that the ravens ever had a deep threat, that actually has been on the field for a pass. 90 percent of Cams patterns are hook patterns. In the 2nd interception of the Titans game the pass was not to Dickson. The defender jump up high enough to get a hand on it , it was a pass to Evans , who was on a hook back on the sideline. Check the Replay all three receivers broke Right as Flacco rolled right , Dickson hitting the ball, deflected the pass up and to the inside. But the pass was intended for Evans. Cam is stacking receivers into 5 yd splits then using hook patterns which locks the receivers from forward motion. Look back across the years it doesn't take a genius to see what he is doing . There is a reason when he was head coach at Miami he went 1 and 15.
Look at our running plays , First play up the middle, second play misdirection play left or right , third play pass. Third and long draw . Or a screen . Cam still calls the plays and he chokes, then uses the excuse , they did not execute well. When you choke an offense you get Cam ball . When we get receivers with speed we get end around instead of receivers 20 yards down field.

The best skill players we have on Offense are:

Rice
Boldin
Dickson
Pitta

We need to have a HEALTHY option at receiver to claim the other WR spot in this offense or we need to run a lot of 2 tight end sets. Having Lee Evans hobbling around out there won't help the team.

We need to throw these Rookies in the fire! They need to get some real time experience. I would love the idea of running 2 tight end sets if our number 1 Receiver was DeSean Jackson or Sidney Rice but having 3 slow receivers out there won't give a offense any momentum.

Torrey needs to step up and I think it starts down in St. Louis. Doss as well. Maybe even LaQuan Williams.

I think Dickson and Pitta need to be worked into the offense more, like New England uses their TEs

I think Cam needs to develop the offense around the players and not try to make the players fit his system, play to their strengths

We have so much talent on the offensive side of the ball there is no reason we should be struggling, any other team with the caliber of players we have would be racking up the points..its about play calling but also execution..I think we have the people to execute, but again...play to their strengths..if you have two good pass catching TEs then find ways to get them both on the field, now with Evans maybe missing time and David Reed as well I hope they both get used more...I dont think Torrey is ready, Doss and LaQuan could see the field as well

Joe needs to have some confidence on these guys like at least trying to give them a chance to catch the ball. If he sees Torrey is one on one, he needs to throw his way so Torrey can at least have confidence catching the ball.

Same thing with Doss and LaQuan as well, Joe needs to look quick for open and trust one on one coverage. The safeties easily pick him up if they know Joe's only trusted targets are Boldin and Evans.

I'll bet those opposing DBs are watching the Ravens tape hundred times and see Joe's trusted targets are not the rookies.

I agree with the OP. I'm starting to think that the Ravens win in spite of their poor coaching, not because of their good coaching like the media says.

Well again If Cam can not adjust to the personnel we have what good is he to us, I see the patriots going down all the time with a scattershot of skill sets and yet can come up with an offensive game plan that is not complicated, easily executed and extremely effectiev, and they are not the only ones. So again we need to have Cam step his game up, because we definitely have talent on that side of the ball that can win us games if the right plan is implemented.

It needs to happen soo, I think many people had the bar set too high when Cam called a flat out impressive game, now we may be coming to the grim realization that he just isnt the guy.

However all that said it is week 2 and there is a lot of football to be played, So there is more than enough time to turn it around.

KNIBB HIGH FOOTBALL RULES !!!
