It's a GAME, guy. You help the other guy up because you're both just doing your jobs. You as a fan can hate another team all you want, but these guys are all part of the same union, same species, same league, it's a GAME. I love seeing our guys show some class out there, win or lose. That's Ravens football - you can play tough as you like, but when the whistle blows, the play's over.

That was a weird game, moreso than any of the other Steeler games. If I was wearing purple on that field, I wouldn't have extended a hand to any Steeler to help him up 'cause I'd be a little afraid he'd bite it off. There were emotions running hard in that game. That being said, I HAVE seen Ravens help Steelers off the ground, pat them on the helmet, even a hug or two. It's happened. (And 1/28/01 may have been paying more attention than me, apparently. I was too busy jumping up and down and screaming "WHEEEEEEEEEEEE")

Moreover, are you implying it'd be a good thing if it DIDN'T happen? What's the point? Not helping a guy up is juvenile, not tough. It doesn't make you a bad*ss, it makes you a jerk.

Now it you were getting torched like we were by Hasselbeck ,would you help their recievers up or would you be mad as hell?

All i'm saying is we played soft and it showed.

Yeah help them up when your kicking their behind in the game.Pat them on the back then .Not when your getting trashed

If i was playing corner ,I would not be helping Kenny Britt who is destroying me ,off the ground.Id be pissed .
Why weren't the Ravens players?

Me, personally, when I am losing I am pissed as hell and will not even talk to anyone. But that's just my competitive immaturity coming out :)

You have to take into consideration, there's usually a lot of respect for other players on the opposing teams. They may have been on the same team before (college or pro). Take for example the facemask penalty called on Ed Reed against Britt. As soon as the play was over Ed jumped up and let Britt know it wasn't intentional. There's a lot of mutual respect amongst the league. We tell our kids to be respectful and display good sportsmanship during little league but don't expect the same respect from the kids' idols? doesn't make sense.

Your not getting my point. Our attitude while getting trashed by Hasselbeck was not getting
mad(a normal response if you have ever played sports) but being the most helpful in getting
opposing players up off the ground Ive ever seen in a Ravens game

Im not saying you never help opposing players up or do what Reed did and let Britt know
the face mask was unintentional( a class act) but when your getting stomped on its time
to get mad and get more physical .Instead,we just continued to play soft.

Getting "more mad" doesn't necessarily equate to better execution. Getting more mad
may actually hurt the defense b/c you will let your emotions take over and lose
discipline and responsibilities.

For some reason I'm getting the impression that you think 'inception' means 'last week'. They do it every game, even against the Steelers. It's a game, after the play guys help each other up, mostly to gab between plays. They all know each other. They were frustrated, but unlike the Steelers didn't continue to start fights or anything like that, they were professional. Remember the last couple years under Billick (of course you don't) and the guys would get super frustrated and make idiotic personal fouls and we'd all complain? Yea, that's why I like Harbaugh.

Having respect for your opponents = soft?

Ed Reed also apologized to Kenny Britt when he accidentally grabbed his facemask, what a pansy. I swear, a loss does funny things to a fanbase.

Bottom line is we played soft and the bending over backwards to help Britt & Co off the ground is a reflection of that.

That's the point im trying to make.

Respect is not a reflection of playing soft. James Harrison was helping Rice off the ground when we played them and Harrison is the furthest thing from soft.

I don't see a problem with it...a lot of these guys are friends off-the-field; it doesn't mean they're trying any less or anything like that.

As immature as it sounds, I kind of agree with the OP. You can have respect for a player without helping him up. It is a mind game on the field even if they are all part of the same organization. Hell, just look back to how most of us probably were playing high school football, even though we probably had common ties, I doubt we didn't hold a little ill will for a guy who pancake blocked us when we played against them.

It's human nature to not want to be outdone by another person.

Now if the opponent accidentally face masks like Reed did, he was manning up and apologizing for this, that is understandable. But if playing within the rules, then I think on the field you need to keep that mental edge vs the opponent and leave it to his teammates to help him off the ground.

So would you say James Harrison is soft? He helped Ray Rice off the turf numerous times last week.

Ok, I guess soft isn't the right word that the OP is using. I don't think it makes a player soft but may show a sign of not caring as much and to feel beat down. Kind of like turning a lion into a kitten because he has been beat down so many times during the day.

Helping players up has nothing to do with why we lost. You can want to kill someone until the whistle blows and then be their best friend. Think about Ray - he's friends with a lot of guys around the league, never hurt his play.

Man, people are just looking for anything to justify this loss. We showed up, the Titans were the better team on Sunday, so we lick our wounds and deal.

Do you think we were as physical in the Titans game as the Steelers game? It wasn't even close.

I know if I was getting torched,I wouldn't be helping the guy who is torching me.I may say great game
after the game, but Im not gonna help him off the ground.

It's not that serious. If they didnt help players off the ground i wouldnt have a problem with it either. That doesnt have an impact on the outcome of the game anyway. In the 90's the Knicks would fine their players for helping opponents off the floor. That didnt stop Jordan from whoopin them agaian and again

Anybody here remember what Howe Long said about football and helping people up?
I'll do my best to quote him....."I know the game has changed when I see a Raider helping an opponent off his back after a play, I'm here to beat you up on the field your my enemy, off the field we can be friends."

Now IMO I consider Howe Long a class act always has been, and I agree on the field it is his job to pound you into submission, it is yours and teammates jobs, to pick your butt up and do it again.

I think this would be a better question if we saw Ed Reed helping up Hines Ward. Flacco fixing Harrison's jersey/pad. etc

I did see one guy (on another team, drawing a blank) get a sack this weekend and helped fix the jersey of the QB he sacked.
