Activate Tandon Doss Already

56 posts in this topic

Torrey smith is just a body running down the field. This offense needs someone they can trust and tandon has a fabtastic set of hands. They need him out there. Why he was inactive amazes me.

Well he's inactive because he's an identical player to Boldin and because Evans is gimpy. So we need someone who can stretch the field and doss is more of an underneath guy.

But agreed, especially since we just lost D.reed.

man i hope that reed isn't injured that bad. every time he shines he gets injured. i wish him all the best. not gonna judge on a jung guy that wasn't even able to show anything(torrey). don't forget that those games where all preseason. just don't have to bite on all that hype that happens in those times. i think we will have very good receivers in a few years. just need to wait until they are ready to play in the nfl. tan don will get his chance at some point of this year and he will take it. torrey will be needed if evans goes down. he is the only one who can do what lee does right now...

Who says Doss can't stretch the field? As far as I know, having him in titans game probably wouldve helped a bunch. Especially during the situation where our O-line are shaky and Flacco needs a guy that can sure throw to.

Several times yesterday I saw Torrey open. I don't give a Rat's Mule what he looked like in pre-season, if you are putting him on the field and he is open, throw him the ball! He isn't gonna build confidence overnight.

Also, Evans isn't effective with his foot. Let him recover, Start Torrey. People will respect his speed. Braylon Edwards drops soooo many balls but when he was starting out you would see him drawing the deep safety as well. Have Reed and Doss run slants in the slot or put them outside and have Q run in the slot.

I agree if Evans is hurt set him. I want to see Doss play but its like our TEs you just have to wait for them to be called. I didnt jump on the sorry Cam bandwagon and I wont because I dont like his play calling even when we win games.

Doss should be on the field...whoever thinks he can't stretch the field needs to have their eyes examined. We need to hit our TE's more. If the blitz is coming throw to your checkdown routes. Stop throwing 20 yards down the field on 3-4,5,6. Question, why is Foxworth on the field as anything other than a towel or water boy? If you can't cover your man for more than 2 secs, we can't bhlitz. Zbikowski was out of position for most of the game, and we just let Pollard (Angry Man) and Nakumora (best guess at spelling his name) sit on the bench. This is not chess, it's checkers!! Come on Black Birds, get it together and let's run the table.

I don't think it would have mattered- Doss, torrey, or Evans The titans had us figured out and our o-line was pretty awful on Sunday which lead to Flacco sucking it up

They are much better than I thought and to be honest, they could end up winning the AFC South so, we may see them again....

Right. We haven't seen Torrey in special teams yet. He's been in the game to "compliment" Boldin and "stretch" the field. But the only thing I've seen out of him is just running trying to open more room for the other WRs. Yes, that's great if the other WRs get more room to run, but teams won't account for him as much since he isn't getting looks and haven't solidify his hands yet (We all saw the pre-season). I'd much rather have Doss in there who can produce instead of having someone who will just run around trying to open up more space.Should be Evans, Doss...............Reed, Boldin.

Doss =/= Boldin. Doss is a bigger target and he is considerably faster. I really dont understand why he isnt at least given a look. He was used as our version of Mike Wallace when we were preparing for the Steelers game, so he must have some speed too. If Evans isnt 100% he shouldnt be playing IMO. He helped stretch the field against Pitt, but it didnt work as well against Tennessee who has much better coverage people in the secondary and LB corps.

I like Doss as much as the next person, but I am going to trust the coaches are going to suit up the right players. Hindsight is the only thing that is perfect, but I really don't think Doss would have made the difference for us this week.

I can't help but feel that yesterdays game was a trap game. Our offense didn't look very focused on the road as a whole.

It serves no point to let Torrey run 9 routes all day long if we dont even attempt to get him the ball and keep the defense honest. Even if its just a long bomb thats overthrown at least the defense knows we'll attempt to get the ball downfield to Torrey. I can only imagine how bored Torrey is out there running around knowing he's never going to get the ball. He's like Joe's 8th read behind Boldin, Dickson, Evans, Rice, Pitta, Leach, Grubbs, and Flacco.

I was wondering if I just missed Tandon Doss ever stepping on the field or what......
I saw T.Smith running down field on a few plays, but he is hardly even a decoy given he dropped passes all preseason.... I defended him on this site, I still believe he may develop into a deep threat..
I figured with Lee Evans injured barely able to run full speed and create separation perhaps Doss would see some action with his sure hands....

We need to use the TEs more creatively, after Dickson got leveled by Finnegan looked like offense was in shocked...

I feel like at least throw Torrey Smith a few long balls to see if the preseason was nerves and now he may break out here... It cant hurt to send him in motion try to get a Safety or linebacker on him and toss one up too him....

I feel like if dallas can throw some 80 yd bomb to some unknown scrub we can at least toss a few to 2nd round draft pick lol

Ive been wondering this myself. I get that Torrey Smith is the higher draft pick and has deep threat speed, but Joe never looks in his direction and he has had one target (a throw away pass) in two games. Why have him on the field if he isn't going to do anything? With a 4-3 cover 2 the Titans were running I would believe Tandon Doss would be a better fit because he's a possession WR (who is also fast) with sticky hands and a good fit for "dink and dunk" passes to move the chains.

Speed beats zones, the cover 2 zone in a 4-3 is to relegate all the din and dunk passes.

I agree that you need a speedster to beat them deep but heck the Ravens didn't even throw a pass in Smith's direction! What's the point of having him in there if you aren't going to at least throw something his way is what I'm curious to know about.

The Titans pass rush was working the OL and Joe Flacco didn't have a ton of time to wait for the long routes to be completed before having to hurry his throws; though it got much better in the 2nd half when the Ravens used more shotgun.

The screen to Ray Rice for the TD was something I liked and thought the Ravens should have used more of. Using screens, slants, and comeback routes with a 3-5 step drop by Joe Flacco would have been much better than having to constantly rely on the Play Action.

The patriots don't have much speed at wr and torch zone defenses. Its not like tandon is slow either. Tandon would be great in quick slants, wr screens and even as a red zone target. He's tall and has fantastic hands.

Randy Moss did it for a while, they had Brandon Tate to stretch zones out, and they have Ocho now to stretch them out.

Well I know randy moss did a few years ago but throughout bellichecks reign they have never really had that outside of moss for a few seasons. Tate is a very small part of their scheme and ocho isn't a speed burner anymore. Their system is all about the short game and occasionally taking deep shots. Their system is light years ahead of cams bs aircoyal crap

Apparently evans has been playing hurt so that could have beeb hurting us this week with boldin being the only reciever on the field really.

If evans sits, hopefully doss gets in there which I think boosts this offense. Especially since flacco hand picked him

i agree with that but where has he been on special teams? he's an explosive guy who was an all acc kick returner at umd. and laquan williams has been good too. no use risking another corner (webb) on special teams

I hate this whole idea of being a decoy and opening other people up, that's a waste of time and space! Run the route and catch the ball, and make them respect you, and if they don't keep torching them. Having Torrey Smith running 9 routes is useless if you ask me, have him catch atleast a slant and make the D realize that he's even on the field. If the defense is focusing on Anquan then hit someone else.

And to end my rant, i see the Pat's run a lot of 2 reciever, 2 TE' 1 back sets. I think we should incorporate that. And that concludes my very biased and flawed theory on how to improve our offense.

I wouldn't be surprised if we do see Doss this week. With Lee Evans' ankle on the fritz again and the "weak" Rams coming up next it is probably as good a time as any to get him out there.

I am very concerned about sitting Evans, even though I believe it is the thing to do.

We need to pick up a WR somewhere, I just don't think Boldin & rookies can handle it all especially with David Reed hurt too. I think our rookie WR's are going to be great, but they are a work in progress.

Any thoughts?

Also, I think Ed Dickson becomes our de facto #2 WR.

Dickson is good, I really like what I see in him.
